Sharp R Series 1

When I bought my current house it had a Sharp model 1505 installed. A year or two after moving in the oven failed with an electrical problem that I can't remember the symptoms of. For convenience sake, I bought the same model to fit in the existing opening. Now its a 3 years later and the microwave comes on by itself, runs constantly with no power and can't be used to heat anything. The only way to stop it is to pull the plug.
Calling Sharp only yielded, "There are no recalls on this model. Sorry its out of warranty you'll need to call someone to service it." Based on the feedback I've seen in several forums, this product should never have come off the production line in the first place. It's garbage and constantly fails with electrical problems. I'll never buy another Sharp product.

Purchased a Sharp R1505 in Jan 2004, in 2005 the display failed and had to pay for repairs myself. Sharp would not pay since it was out of warranty by 3 months. In Jan.2007 the dispaly started to go out again. This time I called Sahrp and they agreed to pay for repairs.
I was completely satisfied the second time.
After some research, I found that this is a common problem with Sharp products and will not buy another.
I did find a website that will repair the defective part for $40.
They even tell you how to safely remove it.
The website is : http://207.234.249.73/mwd/#brands

We bought a Sharp R-1505 for our house because we liked the way the buttons were hidden when the door was closed. Unfortunately, the "Start" button is a plastic part that can break off when pressed too hard (for example, by your microwave-challenged in-laws). Ours did and I've been duct-taping the Start button back on for over a year now every two months. Then the display completely stopped working after about 1.5 years of owning it. Our microwave before this one was a Amana Radarange from the 70s, which still worked after 25+ years of use. Please don't buy one of these - they're crap.

I purchased my Sharp R-1502 over the range microwave from Sears in March of 2003 for $249.99. Last night after filling my house with acrid smoke, it died. I expected more from this product than 18 months worth of service. Having previously had Sharp microwave ovens that lasted for years, I assumed it was a reliable brand. Not anymore! Mary D.

These are good microwaves, but as with any microwave, do not open the door while it's cooking! Touch the stop key first. Otherwise, you wear out the door switches and they can fail. Also, if your display is failing or intermittent, there is a repair service at tinyurl.com/yvcgr

We have a two year old R-1505 over the range Sharp. The control panel started malfunctioning about 6 months ago, now it barely works. The over starts ALL BY ITSELF with no one around. We have resorted to keeping a mug of water in it, just in case. When you can operate it, closing the door and pressing 'start' sends it into a frenzy of adding one minute onto your pre-set cook time, sometimes up to 10 minutes extra. Bah! Using two sticks to make fire would be better.

Built in Jan. 1999. Bought in June 1999. Repair of $116.00 in Nov. 2000. Died completely in Feb. 2004. I don't recommend any Sharp products.

I have had nothing but good luck with my Sharp microwave. I also had a Samsung microwave that worked excellent also.
