Are all GM vehicles as unreliable as the 2003 Montana? We have had nothing but problems since we bought it-Broken interioir parts, no display on the radio, side lamps constantly burn out, gasket leaks, weak fan blower, AC sucks, now the transmission is going. I will never buy another GM vehicle. People wonder why American car companies cannot compete!!!

I own a 2003 Extended, 80K km. Powerful, spacious, economical (well, after Isuzu Trooper anything would be economical). I haven't had a single issue in a year. I know that replacing the intake gasket awaits, so what: it's the only known problem with this model. I was thinking about trading it in for a new SV6, but now I'm cured from this delusion.

Funny, I read all of the problems everyone has had with their Montana's, and it sounds like they own mine! I have had nothing but trouble with this piece of junk since we purchased it. 2003 Model, extended - bought used - had to bring it in to dealer the same day we purchased it! Front bumper on passenger side let go, only to find out it was a manufacture defect. There was no "clip" on that side, yet there was no hole for a "clip" to be in! Have had it in 5 times in past year for, brakes(had replaced at my expense, as they claim were regular wear and tear, although when it was in on other occasions I had complained about excessive brake dust - entire rims were black but according to GM this was "normal" - warning lights were on ---- bringing it back in today (5 months later -- same problem!!) Driver side window in 3 times for it -- sluggish and jumps forward -- twice told it was ok, had to have motor etc., replaced last visit -- doing it again! Problems with passenger sliding door!! And the list goes on!!! Owned a Blazer prior to this - bought new - nothing but trouble with that too!! And GM wonders why they are dropping down the list in ratings!! If I wanted garbage, I'd go to the dump! I'll never purchase another GM product!

1997 Pontiac Transport/Montana
A major headache. I have since I have owned this vehicle since 2002 put about 800-1000 dollars into repairs for this vehicle. Not a maintenance free nor burden free vehicle. Do not recommend.

I now have a 2003 Montana. I changed my rating from a 5 to a 3. Love the AWD. They have cheapen them quite a bit since my 2000. My problems started 5 miles after picking it up. A window shield wiper blade was broken. The dealer didn't notice it in the pre-delivery inspection or the States safety inspection. It scratched the windshield so that it had to be replaced. Then the transmission for the wipers went. Then the speed sensor for the anti-lock brakes has failed twice. The headliner started falling and had to be replaced. The power window switch failed just like my 2000. The biggest disappointment has been the terrible service from the dealer. When I filled out a survey from GM and gave them bad marks, they asked me to take my service work else where. While this is my first van (2000) I have driven others and it has everything I need, and I like the quiet and smooth ride. In six months I'll come back and update this. Since I've written the above I have been driving a Ford Wind-Star (rental) please I want my Montana back! UPDATE!! I had this 2000 (bought used) until now. It gave me good service and had only some warranty repairs like a power window switch and the AC compressor was making a noise so they replaced it. I traded for a a new 2003 Montana with all the bells and whistles. It has Versa-Trac and it gives a softer and quieter ride then the 2000. I'm more then satisfied with the gas mileage, (they say not to check it until 5000 miles). It has been back for repairs because of poor dealer pre-delivery inspection which is not the fault of GM.
from reading other ratings it seems people either get a good one, or one plagued with problems.
Now at 33k miles(two days before the warranty expired) the rear end had to be replaced. A $3000 dollar item that is not serviceable. the vehicle is an AWD and the rear end consists of hydraulic clutches and oil pumps. one pump failed and the whole rear end had to be replaced.
Also the switch for the pasenge side power window has been replaced twice. . NO MORE GM CARS FOR ME.

I have a 2003 extended length Montana. It currently has approx. 41K miles. We started having problems at approx. 20k miles. This is the list of problems so far... -Rear parking aid - sensors in bumper needed replacing -Driver seat warmer - heater element needed replacing -Broken glove box latch A/C - a valve or something needed replacing -cruise control - switch needed replacing -front wheel bearings needed replacing (both sides separate days) -In snow 'storms', I lost AWD and ABS temporarily...sensor -rear windshield wiper went... -The switch for the passenger window went....or 1/2 went. You can open but not close the window with that switch. -I am also experiencing a little radio problem....the sound blanks for a second at a time...like a record skipping. -Compass displays C instead of E intermittently GM seems to think that it is a mistake that we didn't buy the extended warrany. I think this is a cop out. They should make a car that doesn't 'need' you to buy the extended warranty. This is our 4th GM car and it is the only one that we had any real problems with. This van has had frequent visits to the dealer. I feel like this van is falling apart little by llittle.

I have a 2001 Montana (purchased new). I have replaced the brakes and roters, a leaking intake gasket (a known problem with this car), the condenser for the A/C, and have had to have the transmission rebuilt. None of this under warrenty of course. We follow all of the routine maintenance procedures and address problems as soon as they occur. I would never buy another Pontiac!

I love G.M. cars, but my main reason for writing this is BIGBABY's comment about G.M. cloning their vechiles, EVERY car company does it, from Lexus and Toyota to Chrysler and Dodge. All the Chrysler mini-vans (Voyager, Town & Country, and Caravan) just like all the G.M. mini-vans are all the same, just different levels of luxury. G.M. ISN'T THE ONLY ONE THAT DOES IT!!!!!

Nope. Until GM stops "cloning" thier vehicles, I will be angry with them. The Montana is just another "sporty" and more expensive Venture.

Bought this vehicle new in spring of 2000 - I've babied it including only using synthetic oil, etc and 80% highway miles, yet,,, It has had about (15) warranty repairs of which some are: brake system (5) times - leaking wheel cylinders, abs system problems, rotors, proportioning valve replacement, drivers side power window motor replacement, heater fan relay blown, rear wiper motor replacement, transmission repair, replace stereo, front wheel bearing (twice), rear lift gate cylinder replacement. Wanna buy it?

I bought a 1999 Montana brand new. I just spent over $900.00 on brakes. I had to have the pads, the rotors, and the drums replaced, and the rear leaking wheel cylinders replaced. I had only 61000 miles on this van and I do not ride the brakes or drive recklessly. I usually get 80,000 miles on a set of brakes and then I only have to replace the pads. In addition, both tie rods were replaced with 62,700 miles on them. It has been a constant battle with the seat belt light staying on. My wife and I love this van and would buy another if we didn't have such problems. I am saving for a Honda product next.

We bought a used Pontiac Montana (98 model) two years ago and absolutely love it!!! It has all the bells and whistles that we wanted in a mini-van, gets great gas mileage and has a smooth and quite ride. The only problems we have been having are with some of the warning lights, but nothing too horrible. We kind of expected it with American made vehicles. Otherwise, it is great!!
