my 97 chevy astro has 220 clicks on it.

right now i'm working on a much needed tune up, the power window motor assembly needs replacing (i just open the window with the cup of my hand)which may cost a few hundred brand new.. but definitely cheaper used.
i recently repaired the rear hatch but now its broken again 1 wee later..
however, this is the first time this car has needed major repairs and it has 220 clicks on it so its not so bad... and i wouldn't even consider these major repairs. its great for cargo if you take out the rear seats.

my parents have had many cars in the past from the big 3 with SO many problems which don't even begin to compare with this bad boy.

I have a 1996 Astro with 153k on it. Still runs like new. It's 11 years old now, and still passes emissions test with flying colors. I also drive an Astro Cargo for work. Without anything in the back, it has a ton of get up and go, heck, even when its fully loaded it still has tons of power. I can actually race those little cars on the road and smoke 'em quite well. Both run amazingly. Very reliable trucks too. A friend of my fathers had a '91 that is still on the road. Also a very nice looking vehicle too.

I bought a 2004 awd astro I`m very happy except the mileage could be better. The awd is great really handles well in the snow.I bought the Astro because of the reliability and room it has opposed to a larger van or sport utility.Over all very pleased and cant wait for camping season.

To all owners of Chevy Astro and GMC Safari vans: Do you have a stubborn electric rear hatch release that works, but does not release the hatch? Take the side of your fist and hit the outside of the hatch with your hand. Try the hatch release again, it schould work. Does your electric fuel door stick? Knock on the outside of the fuel door and try it again. It schould come open. Otherwise great vehicle! See my quote under GMC Safari on this website.

i bought a 1997 brand new it was junk in the first 6000 miles it was towed away 3 times would not start. doors rattled. dash rattled. gaps in door fits as big as 3/8 in. this was top of the line touring model leather/awd/everything/ and let me tell you it was junk. I called Chevrolet and they asked me what I wanted to do . I wanted my $ back or another van, they laughed and me relly did! They said you will have to live with it. I ws in a rental car most of the time i owned it in 6000 miles I put on it it was in warranty shop 16 times !! piece of CRAP!!! PROBABLY WHY THEY CLOSED THE PLANT DOWN WHERE THEY ARE MADE !

We have had one at the University where I work. All in town driving with some trips. Older design but pretty rugged good engine 4.3 L v6. Had to replace the switch that allow it to go into gear when you step on the brake. Broke 2 times. Not enough footroom on the front passenger side. Very reliable. Fairly comfortable on the highway and manuverable in town much better than the larger full size vans. Better visibility as well. We liked it enough to buy a 2003 year model.

Did have a problem with wipers ,but both were fixed by a recall. Love the room, power, the all wheel drive, the safety features, little extras. We've hauled tons that we normally used a truck for. Mechanically--we've replaced the power steering pump 5 times from 80,000 to 130,000 miles--and the lines still broke after that. Gas mileage is terrible. Fixed the power windows--bad switch, door locks, in addition to regular maintenance.

Had one of the first ones in 1986 and that great 4.3 liter engine had 256,000 miles when I sold it in 1996 and ran like a champion. Only had to replace plugs and wires. It realy was a great vehicle.

Its incredibly outdated and old, but still worth a look. Its truck based, so its not good for everyday passenger use. As a cargo hauler, thats a another story. Gigantic cargo space with the 2nd and 3rd rows removed. The AWD is pretty much a waste, it dosent do anything. V6 is old, but powerful enough.

Have had our Astro since 1996. It's been a very reliable van, no major problems. There were a couple of things that were taken care of under warranty right after we got the van (prob w/ power windows--bad switch, and a prob with the interior lights). Other than that, it's been great. Just keep up on your tire rotations! :-)

Got a 2000 Astro AWD and it is an incredibly stable vehicle. Granted, it has a mid-80's body style, but it offers the most room in it's class, has more features than I could ever use, and is rock solid in the frame and AWD drivetrain. We had lot's of snow here in Washington this year and when asked how it handled on snowy/icy roads, all I could say was "who can tell?" it maintained the road so well. Much beter than the 1998Subaru Outback Legacy AWD wagon we traded in on it. The 4.3l V-6 is an incredible engine, 6200lb tow capacity and I can't wait for our first trailer trip this summer!
