they seem to be popular and reliable, although i believe as long as the majority of police and sheriff departments drive this model, it should not be allowed to be driven by civilians. i have to slow down everytime i see one.

My mom had her crown vic for many years and it was very reliable. She just sold it with 150k miles on it and it was still in great condition! Its a great car for a family-very spacious. It gets great gas milage for being a V8- hers got 28mpg! Great car 5 star!

Sorry about that. My review was for the 1989 version not 1998! Owned from 1989 until 2005.

i found this site looking for info about another car... then i decided to see whats being said about my crown vic... not alot of reviews and it goes to show that its a dependable car when there isnt much being said. yes, its a boat and a gas guzzler, but thats what full sized america cars are all about. if u want compact economy buy a toyota. this is the sole surviving american big body sedan, rear wheel drive V8. ford vehicles tend to be suspect specially since there has never been a great 4 cyl american car, but when it comes to full size V8 ford is not playing games. they cant afford to considering crown vic is not only fords flagship but a big seller as a fleet vehicle, i.e. police, government and taxi. this car is made to last and i must say it is the only ford vehicle other than the F150 (another big fleet seller) that i turst will hit 200k miles with no major problems (other than the occasional recall). the 4.6 is a strong, dependable engine, altho not as powerfull as the 5.0, and its comfortable as hell. the steering/handeling could be better but i ihave the LX model, which i doubt was made with reckless driving in mind. im sure the police version handles much better and if i ever hit the lotto im having all the police options installed. either way, a big, comfy, powerfull & dependable ameican car. possibly the last of its kind unless chevy brings back the caprice/impala as a V8 rear wheel drive

This car is Fords cash cow. Very little improvements made through out the years. It does have its good points for those who are in the market for this kind of car. Has truck-like towing capabilities, excellent long distance comfort (providing you don't do much cornering) and decent acceleration. A work horse for taxi/police/rental fleets, which by default, makes it a laughing stock amongst the automobile cognesceti. Though you really can't fault it for what it is.

I had to drive one of these pigs on West Virginia mountain roads once. NEVER AGAIN. I had to fight it constantly as it wallowed around. I suppose if you live where it is cold and flat, this monster's marshmallow suspension will soak up the bumps on those pot-holed roads. Other than that, forget it!

A fine car if you can get past the occasional explosion.

Great mileage, 24+, reliable, 218000 miles, low maintenance, two to three thousand dollars over the life, so far. It has never left me sit. Who can complain?

The big boat Fords are big cash cows. Very comfortable to drive but as dependable as the titanic. One maybe great the next a total lemon. If Ford didn't sell trucks they may not even be around today.

Like almost every Ford out there, the Crown Victoria is just a wonderful, reliable, all around good sedan ! You feel like you are in a luxury car when driving one of these. Awesome !

Best things about your Crown Vicky: 1. People will slow down because they'll think you're an unmarked car. 2. It can tow a big trailer

When people say, "They don't build 'em like they used to," what they're saying is that most of today's cars are no longer built like the Crown Victoria still is built, with sturdy body-on-frame construction.

It's large, but amazingly maneuverable . . . otherwise, why would it be used for taxis and police cars? Gas mileage isn't the greatest, but it is arguably the safest vehicle to be in when a collision occurs.

Terribly bland and ubiquitous. Who wants to drive a taxi/police car? I can only guess at how poor the gas mileage is in this monster and it must be a chore to park.
