 | Lena (10) 07/21/2008 | I like the civic's evolution from a design standpoint. It seems to be a pretty solid winner in its place in the market because it doesn't come across as cheap, even though it is. It helps that I think they maintain the same styling across the higher-end civic hybrid.

 | s1mp13m4n (0) 10/12/2007 | Before I get flamed, let me say that this is a good car. It is relieable and economical. To me though the car is "normal, average, cookie cutter". It does not stand out and it is so popular that they all start to blend in and look alike. Even in the tuner marker the car is so popular that ...well I am borded with them. That is not to say that the car is bad at all. I simply prefer different. I would choose the Mazda Speed 3 or VW Golf/Fox instead.

 | buyatoyota (0) 01/06/2006 | I have a 1999 Honda Civic sedan (4 door). It's great on gas, handles well, fits our baby car seat comfortably (though we had to put it behind the driver seat because of the hump in the middle of the back seat)..so it's not made for transporting children around - ideally they should be in the middle of the car. We bought it used in 2005 and immediately had trouble with the fan that cools the engine and the fuse for the air conditioning - but both were fairly inexpensive fixes. However, our driver side window sticks (is very hard to roll up) which is not something we did to the car but how it was manufactured. I also agree with the comments about limited leg room. My husband has to put the seat right back to drive and still feels cramped. I rated it a 3...

 | rushrulz (0) 10/15/2005 | I'm on my second one, so I'm a repeat customer. They handle well, they get great mileage, and they're damned reliable. They can stand up to the worst treatment--even with problems, they still start up and drive. They've very tough. And despite their size, they can handle water on the roads that some cars couldn't, just because of this insatiable will to live they seem to have. But both Civics I've had have had A/C problems early on. I don't know what's up with that.

 | morenocruz (0) 09/26/2005 | Can you say: Cracked exhaust? Malfunctioning speedometer? Cracked distributor cap? Window sliding off track? Bad 02 Sensor? Leaking AC sysem? In doing "after the fact" research I discovered these are "common problems" for my 1998 Civic LX. Depending on who you talk to and on what day, Honda may or may not acknowlege the issue and or offer assistance. The dealer parts are expesnive, but this applies to ALL CAR MAKERS. Other than these issues and "sheet metal" that dimples if you stare at it hard enough, the car has been reliable.

 | twansalem (36) 09/09/2005 | I drove one once, and I felt like I was driving a go-cart. I had to hunch over to keep from hitting my head, and even with the seat all the way back there was no leg room, and the steering wheel was between my knees. I want good gas mileage as much as anyone, but you can't sacrifice all comfort to get it.

 | Sundiszno (30) 06/15/2005 | Based on my experience with a 1992 Civic sedan (manual transmission), I'd recommend it to anyone shopping for a car this size. Sold mine in 2001, and at nine years and about 112K miles, it never had any major problems. Ran well, got great gas mileage (up to 40 mpg, but that was somewhat of a fluke - 36-37 was more like it), and was a lot of fun to drive.

 | needsomeinfo (0) 11/13/2004 | I don't own a Civic but I have been looking at purchasing a 2000 or 2001 Civic. I know that what car companies advertise for fuel ratings aren't entirely realistic unless you drive like grandma. I was wondering if anyone with a 2000-2001 Civic could tell me what they average for mileage on a tank of gas on the highway. Any info about this would be greatly appreciated.

 | afropath (0) 07/29/2004 | The Civic really is an all around car for realiability, but I absolutely HATE all the nu rich boys that think the Civic is some kinda sports car. If they can spend some g's on a body kit, paint job and mufflers, they might as well have settled for a REAL sports car. Of course, this may only happen where I live, but I'm sick of it. Just had to get that off my chest. This is RIA, after all.

 | adele (0) 04/21/2004 | I have a '99 Honda Civic Coupe with manual transmission. It had to have major transmission work at 50,000 miles. Honda Service said it was not covered under warrantee, but changed their story after I complained. My sister had a '98 Honda Civic (automatic transmission). She had to take it in 6 times for repairs in the first 8 months of owning it new. She also had to struggle to get things covered under warrantee. If you are considering buying a Honda, google Honda Civiv problems transmission. I would not buy a Honda again.

 | apache31 (0) 04/09/2004 | This is the worst car I ever bought! The electrical system sucks, every time I play my stereo it cuts off when I hit the brakes. | audrebecca (0) 11/06/2003 | In 2001, I bought an '88 Honda Civic which already had 140k on it. Paid around $450 for it, then put another $600 in it to get it running just the way I wanted. In the first year I had it, I put close to 30k on that car, and the only thing it asked me for was a brake job and two new tires. The second year, I drove it more moderately, replaced the timing belt "just in case", the alternator, and the front and rear seals. I think all told I put just over $1000 into that car in exchange for it giving me 50,000 miles of dependable transportation. I finally replaced it with a Toyota Tercel b/c the Honda didn't have power steering, and passed it on to my boyfriend's son. He's had to put more into it then I did (clutch, radiator, steering column), but then again, as an 18 year old male, he drives it harder then I did, and it just passed the 200k mark. I'm pleased enough with the Toyota I have now, but when I'm ready to replace it, I'll be going back to Honda.

 | KWLucas (0) 10/05/2003 | I've had a 96 civic ex for 2.5 years and am very pleased. Had to replace alternator at 200km but that is all. Excellent mileage to the tune of 50mpg (imperial). Great in snow, always goes! I'm over 6 ft tall yet am quite comfortable. I'm now looking to replace this car. Guess with what. that's right, another civic. By the way am only replacing cause I need an auto trans for a new driver in the family. This car is still in great shape, no rust and runs like a new one.

 | BIGBABY (10) 02/09/2003 | Its getting dated to more advanced choices such as the new Corrola and the Focus, but its still an excellent choice. It gets excellent gas mileage Most Civic's I've seen have been nice, good looking vehicles.

 | JKooks (3) 01/15/2003 | The only serious problem I've ever had with my '93 Civic EX had nothing to do with the quality of the car itself. The previous owner clearly had no idea how to drive a manual, which ultimately led to my replacement of all transmission and clutch components. And even then, these things are ridiculously easy to work on, assuming you've got a full set of metric wrenches and other tools - which I do. Outside of that, these cars will last forever if you care enough to not tear them up. And the fact that I don't get to spend as much quality time at the filling station as I once did doesn't really bother me, considering my meager student budget. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to make these things into competent little track monsters. In fact, I'm definitely considering repeat business and buying a '00 Civic Si when I'm ready to let this one go. Unless it's been completely trashed, you can't go wrong with the Civic. Otherwise, these cars will take good care of you.

 | gmanod (3) 12/27/2002 | I have 96' Honda Civic manual 5-speed. What can I say, it has 106 horse power and wheels the size of Power Wheels, but I couldn't imagine a more eficient, reliable car for a relativaly low price. It costs me $12 to fill up my tank and that will last me for 250 to 300 miles. For some reason a lot of people hate the civic, but it seems that they are all people who invest themselves into their cars. A car, in my opinion, is something designed to get you from point A to point B, the Civic does that incredibly well, I don't see why so many people do so much useless crap to their cars, the worst being the loud mufflers.

 | liddlebopeep (0) 05/06/2001 | The Civic remains a great little car in its latest iteration. Civics have always been fun to toss into a corner and still are, despite the phasing out of the previous Civic's independent front suspension for more conventional Mac Pherson struts. That aside, the Civic's engine remains sweet, smooth and eager to revv. The Civic is solid and well-built. Honda just keeps on churning out the winners while GM sits idly by. When's the next redesign of the Cavalier/Sunfire coming anyway?

 | ElegantFire (0) 03/30/2001 | As a college student who is paying for this car myself with internship money (not one whose daddy bought it for them), I can say that it's really been worth the money. Mine is a 2000 Honda Civic, the value package model. It's got all of the features I wanted (except for cruise control) and so far it couldn't be more reliable. It's also got great gas mileage (about 27 city, 35 highway), so I'm not spending a fortune at the pump each week. The quality to price ratio is very nice, especially for someone who just wants a reliable car that does everything you want it to, and isn't really concerned about going from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. Plus it's comfortable to ride in, and my 4 door has plenty of room for when I'm hauling friends around, or moving from city to city between semesters.

 | Phuk2pac (0) 02/27/2001 | Lets get things straight, Dont compare a Hyundai ANYTHING to a Honda. If a Tiburon has 160hp im sure it will not go into good use. Hyundais are the most unreliable cars available. And the Honda Civic Si may have 160hp but still does not have as much torque to outlast even an early nineties Integra(which has 138hp and is also a Honda.)The Civic Si is the TOP OF THE LINE Civic, but pitted against the Integra GSR or Type R, the Civic is a joke. Though i own a Civic and have much respect for it, do not regard it as a fast car because Acura has that department locked down.

 | Jaeger (0) 01/10/2001 | It seems I've been doing nothing but new-car shopping lately: I bought an '01 Maxima SE, my sister bought an '01 Focus ZX3 and my wife recently bought an '01 Civic Sedan, 5sp. Between shopping with wife and sister I've driven all the new offerings in the small sedan category, and a few that are somewhat long in the tooth (Corolla). Bottom line: the Civic sets the standard in this segment. It is a marked improvement over the vehicle it replaces in all aspects, save for the move to a strut front suspension (and away from the unique double wishbone) which will only bother true gearheads. The Civic is extremely spacious inside, particularly in light of its compact exterior, and surely the equal of the Accord from a generation or two ago. Exterior design is typically Honda-conservative, but I find it to be quite handsome and it will surely age well. Interior appointments are first-rate, demonstrating a real understanding of ergonomics: no sci-fi gadgets, but all controls work well and have a quality feel. Honda is pretty much the undisputed king of small-displacement engines (Exhibit 1: S2000) and this engine displays the typical eagerness to rev that lends a sporty element to the driving experience. The gear shift / clutch combination is just about perfect: light effort with a tactile feeling of mechanical precision. When you factor in Honda's enviable reputation for reliability, this car really doesn't have any weaknesses. Okay, a broader colour selection wouldn't be a bad thing.

 | Bob2 (0) 10/12/2000 | This car is a real value! It's the cheapest Honda of all and it looks the same as the expensive Acura. They probably use the same drawings for the Civic as the Acura only on a smaller scale. Smart people them Japanese Honda folks. Heck they are made in Ohio (now it's an American car)with good old Japanese tooling, transported Japanese suppliers and surprise Japanese Management. I should have rated this car a 5 but I'm feeling bad about the lack of balance in these ratings!

Personally I have broken 50mpg several times in the 2 years I have owned it. The only problem that either of us have had is when I had to replace the original battery on the car lst week.
