Alison Krauss has a unique and distinctive voice. I like most of the material that she has done with Union Station; it is sophisticated bluegrass. She is also a great live performer; I highly recommend the double live CD released in 2002.

Alison Krauss has a wonderful voice. "Whiskey Lullaby" with Brad Paisley has an eery quality to it that makes it amazing. Here's a rather contradictory statement for you: Her bluegrass work shows off her talent better, but I prefer her more mainstream country songs.

Truly a diamond in the rough- one of the more talented artists to spawn from the Nashville Music scene in recent memory (which, probably isnt the best compliment I could pay her when you consider the parade of losers the suits in that region have been turning out for the last three decades, or so). Alison is a virtuoso on the fiddle and possesses a vocal approach that is almost porcelain in nature; smooth, delicate and able to convey the emotional intent of the lyrics without having to resort to the vulgar & bombastic approach that is par-for-the-course for her country and pop music contemporaries. The group backing her, Union Station, is exceptionally talented and gets an interesting sound that enhances her appeal tremendously- as a lot of the work that she has done without them simply isnt up to par (and some of it just down-right sucks). But her work with the fictitious, Soggy Bottom Boys on their collaboration for the O Brother project was magnificent and stands as a testament to what is one of the best movie soundtracks in recent memory. Shes a real firebrand on the fiddle, too: I saw one of her performances of The Grand Ole Opry at Carnegie and she was truly smokin that evening; she is at her best when she is live and has good bluegrass accompaniment. Her second solo album, Two Highways is some of her best work and contains a fine and notable remake of The Allman Brothers, Midnight Rider. Even if youre not a fan of country or bluegrass music, you would be hard-presses to justify a low-rating for this classy, versatile and gifted artist. Five stars.

I think she is Patsy Cline reincarnated, her style is very different but her voice is special and she is one of the best out there now. I don't like all of her music but I will always appriciate talent.

Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel, and with Union Station has one of the greatest talents in music. I saw them play recently in London and it was without a doubt one of the best gigs of my life. Anybody that fails to recognise how fantastic she and the band are are either stupid, deaf, or just know nothing about what is good and bad.

Has all the potential to be a longtime star. I think she's great.

She has retained that little girl quality in her voice that she had when she was 14 years old. A multi talented musician and singer, she blows the country / bluegrass stereotypes out of the water with her dignity, class, and style.

Tends to be over-rated, love whiskey lullaby though.

A classy lady who has helped reawaken interest in bluegrass. Very refreshing to listen to after a long day.

Alison Krauss has been my favorite singer ever since I first heard "When You Say Nothing At All" on the country station a few years ago. She has the voice of an angel and the great talent of being able to play the violin beautifully. I admire the fact that she doesn't fall into the thing where she feels like she has to change so she can get played on the radio or dress the way most celebrities dress just so she can get more sales. Alison deserves a lot more popularity, but she's just fine where she is and I think that's awesome.

I'm not a fan of bluegrass nor her very soft voice.

Incredible talent ...and I would do her anyday, anywhere with a vid-cam showing the world

'It's Amazing' what a beautiful voice she has.

As talented as they come, Allison has set the mark in bluegrass for any female singer in years to come. She is versatile in style from country ballad to fast toe tappers. At such a young age, her "best" is yet to come.
Bryonb74 01/21/2003
She is an ok singer but without her band she would really have no notoriety to speak of. She's not horrible, she's just not that great.

stunning

She is a good bluegrass singer but that is it. She has no commercial appeal and very little vocal range.
brooke89 01/06/2003
She has such a simple, honest, pretty voice. And she can play the violin like no one else can. She's my idol. Her talent is unique.

"O Brother, Where Art Thou?" has been receiving a lot of credit for the renewed interest in bluegrass. Even before that movie, though, Alison Krauss, her beautiful voice, and great selection of songs had awakened interest. She and Union Station have made excellent CDs. I've heard her sing with the Cox Family on several bluegrass albums, and her contribution has enriched every song. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her.

Alison is one of the greatest voices in bluegrass. She is also a champion fiddle player. Her music is all heart.

I love almost all types of music and Alison Krauss is right up there with the best of them all as far as I'm concerned. Her voice is a treasure that can really wring out emotion or have fun. And her fiddle playing is awesome - she really knows her stuff. Her group, Union Station, is a top notch bunch of bluegrass musicians. She has really brought bluegrass to a whole new audience and has explored her own rock and pop influences while maintaining the bluegrass feel and integrity. I also really admire Alison for her sense of community in the country music scene by producing or backing lots of other musicians (Mandy Barnett, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, the Cox Family and tons of others). She's even sung backup for Phish. I see her every chance I get, almost every year, since she tours quite a bit with Union Station. She is a real charmer on stage, a little shy, a wonderful sense of humor and a very appeciative and giving person. I recommend every cd she's ever come out with, but for an introduction, you can't beat "Now That I've Found You."

Amazing voice & she can actually play the hell out of some instruments. She isn't just a voice. Saw her do a few songs with Lyle Lovett on one of his tours...very beautiful voices.
