 | MCummings2 (0) 08/24/2007 | I ahve a 2002 extcab S-10 w/the little motor. First 4 years, ran great. good gas mileage (still does) and I drive it everywhere, gravel roads at 80mph, etc. I built my 24x24 deck myself and it hauled 2x12's and bags of cement and gravel like a trouper. Used to have a 96 S-10 and loved it. nuthin ever went wrong with it. This one, at 61K, just after warranty, blew a cylinder and the only real thing I noticed was a drop in gas mileage and eventually some shaking in idle until I got it fixed. However, now the friggin whole front end squeaks and pops on every turn and bump (but I think my abuses off road contributed) and the u-joint/drive shaft is rattling something awful outta gear (occasionally in) at under 20mph but only just started a few days ago at 150K. I still would easily buy another one. Paint and everything else (AC, orig CD radio, etc) works great - of course at some point in the future I expect to need to replace the original clutch. I didn't get any power anything - the heat is too tough on that stuff here in TX to bother. I am sure if I had bought a bigger engine it would run much faster, but I opted for size and gas mileage. Sometimes I do wish there was more interior room or power, but again, that was my decision to opt low. The only real thing I hate - that the truck sits much lower to the ground then they used to - its not a low-rider by any means, but I used to have to step up to get in the seat of my stock , now I slide in and down slightly (at 5' tall).

 | charlie streetgang (0) 11/25/2005 | I own a 99 4 banger “Extreme”. I needed a cheap car and bought it used with 25,000 on it. At 30 years old, once I got it home, I found the thing to be embarrassing. So I ripped off every low rider piece of plastic on that thing. I even pealed of the Extreme details. Now I have slowest vehicle that I’ve ever owned but a reliable little truck. Handles great and gets great gas mileage. I’m actually glad I bought the thing.

 | Beasy2k4 (0) 10/26/2005 | I bought a 1999 S-10 Xtreme from my buddy, From the day I drove it back, I knew I would have it forever. The truck drives beautifully, smoothly. At high speeds, it dives a little in corners mostly due to the three link swaybar I Fabricated to get flex, while still functioning. The gas mileage is good @ 6-8mpg Drag/10-12mpg street/14mpg HWY: Considering that between custom, and cams/va;ves/pulleys/ceramic pistons/headers/race-cat/drop/1/2valves.5/8 lines.5/8-1/2 SlamSpecialties Airbags,9"Rear Drop, 2"Drop Spindles, Removed front shocks,Bucket Seats 5 Point Harnesses,Full Sub-Frame,$" Drop Blocks Rear,Ported/POlished, 10 Ove Honed/Sleeved, Air Intake 37 Dg, 45mm Mass air flow sensor, Straight-bore intake Mnfld, Spacer, Chipped, Mapped, Tuned, 3.73 10 Bolt rearend, Aluminum Driveshaft, Regear MUNCIE 5-Speed, Aluminum/Bllet Throughout motor steering/suspension,High Flow oil pump/Fuel pump/Radiator/water pump/trans/oil cooler.I remember one time my buddy asked to me to pull him "real quick" It ended up being an hour drive to the house, there I saw a 1969 Camaro Bracket Car, I hooked up and had it back at his house in 45 minutes, and I was at my house in an hour. There was never hesitation, overweighted feelings, nothing. I Love my D-10 and thats all ther is to it. Without going deep It's got 39,000 in it after Msrp. But it is also one of the most fun, useable, reliable, workhorse trucks I've ever owned, or driven....Beasy2k4@hotmail.com

 | RoverRoad (0) 09/25/2005 | I do miss my old 92 S-10. I bought it when it had 36k miles on it. But that thing nickel and dimed me for eight years even with a regular maintenance schedule. I liked the truck, I just wish I didn't get a lemon. I guess you can buy a lemon with any manufacturer though. Just when it started to run better, the paint started to flake off.

 | vetteman03 (0) 03/13/2005 | I've got an '01 S-10 extended cab 4wd. I love that truck. The 4.3L engine puts out plenty of power. The push button 4wd save me a few times this winter.

 | spongebob218 (0) 10/07/2004 | I have a 94, 2wd, 2.2, 5-speed. Best little truck in the world. 25mpg, nice ride, handles good. It goes like a tank in the snow, because the 2.2 doesn't have enough power to cause any problems. Had to replace the head gasket at 100k, but thats normal for a 2.2. Only 2 problems: 4200gvw, buckles like a tin can when you hit stuff(maybe I should stop doing that). Easy to fix, parts easy to find. On a side note, most people with 2wd s-10s love em, 4wds just break too often. If you buy a 4wd, keep extra ball joints laying around, your gonna need them.

 | patrucklover (0) 04/08/2004 | I loved my '96 S10 Extended cab, 4.3 Vortec with a 342 rear end, 2 WD, I could tow up to 6,000 lbs. Within the past three months I had to have the intake manifold gasket replaced due to the Dextron anti-freeze and and now one of the bearings went and I have to replace the entire engine. I have 64M miles on this truck. I bought it brand new, serviced it regularly, probably will not buy another GM product.

 | cabits (0) 09/14/2003 | Aside from the almost weekly breakdowns and terrible gas mileage it looks pretty nice while sitting in the dealers lot waiting for repairs.

 | serviceguy8329 (0) 08/28/2003 | i have a 2000 S-10 4x4, i have owned it for 7 months, but have not been very impressed so far, the exhaust leaks, it clunks a lot. i have had to replace front and rear brakes, being rotors and all, both u-joints on drive shaft, and i think the tranny is coming up next. it currently has 85,000 miles on it. I have owned a toyota truck previously and it did much better, I will be purchasing another toyota next time

 | BIGBABY (10) 04/25/2003 | The S-10 is Chevy's compact truck that is going to be replaced by the Colorado soon. The 4.3L V-6 is the only real appealing feature about this. The Extreme model is a sheer waste of money. For truck useage, any Ranger or Dakota will last longer.

 | vdubgreasemonkey (0) 01/27/2003 | I own a 99 ls 2wd. It started out a great little truck then stuff started going wrong and still is. The computer shut down at 37,000 miles weather striping on drivers side door was not glues on, and so many more. Now at 44,000 the ball joints are going bad and the whole thing just seems like GM has quit caring. My family is die hard chevy but After owning this truck I am starting to look at other options for vehicles. the one real good point is the 4.3 vortec has alot of power and is pretty easy to work on.

 | iorkey (0) 12/30/2002 | I owned a '99 Sport (with the 16 5-star rims and firmer suspension), and I loved this truck. I had to trade it in for a mini-van, though, to accomodate my growing family, not a family friendly truck. Nonetheless, still a great looking truck with no problems. Not very powerful or roomy, but for good transportation with great gas mileage, this is my fav. Never let me down when I needed it to get through bad weather or with mid-size loads.

 | lukskywlkr. (3) 11/21/2002 | I've had my S-10 for five and a half years and the thing I like about it most (other than the gas mileage) is that it's paid for. The only problems I've had over those 5 and a half years is the serpentine belt and a u-joint. Other than that, I haven't had any problems whatsoever. The only thing I would change is the interior room. There is none. And if you have a passenger, forget it. Going Christmas shopping is an ordeal because you have to pile things on top of each other to get it all in there.

 | ElwayLite (0) 01/24/2001 | Owned a 95 LS reg cab..was a pretty good truck, more like a car that it is a truck, doesnt take to stuff bein loaded in the bed very well...The interior like most chevys is kinda cheap and i had it in the shop for the starter, a/c, and tranny (all under warranty)..Have owned 2 rangers since (98 and 99) and the ranger is a much better truck...I would stay away from the new rangers though, they are too havin quality control probs...i'd recommend a nissan or pre 98 ranger for a small truck.

 | Tyba5444om (0) 03/19/2000 | I have owned 3 S-10s now and they, like most American vehicles, have spotty build quality. My new S10, a 99 S10 Xtreme, is the best vehicle I have ever owned. no major problems, handles great, great ride, comfortable, and quick. i have VERY pleased with teh Xtreme. Normal S10s I woudl rate at just OK.
