I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado with a 4.3l V6 that I use for consruction use.I went with the V6 to get a lil better fuel economy sence I'm driving about 250 miles a day from West Virginia to Washington DC and Upper Marlboro,Maryland.Fuel economy is ok,but remember its a V6 pulling a 5,000 pound truck with hualing tools, water pumps ect adds even more pounds. The comfort of my truck is great(for being only a base model!)My legs dont get numb from sitting for hours driving to DC unlike the bedrock hardass seats in my old F-150. My Chevy has 347,000 miles on her,and no major problems have happend yet.I maintain my truck how the owners manual says to maintain it.I change the motor oil every 3,000 miles, trans fluid every 75,000 miles, rear end gear fluid every 75,000 miles.I give this truck 5* for reliability,4* for comfort(again its a base model) 3* for electronic stuff(radio and speakers dont work anymore) Its the best truck I've owned so far.Very reliable, well the 4.3l V6 is,IDK about the ... This is the rig to drive!   It goes forever with little except normal maintenance. Yeah, it burns a little gas, but I am on social security so I can afford it.

run forever, pull anything you can attach to it, dependable. We own a 2002 1500 HD and have not had any problems with it. Great vehicle to drive on long distance as well as work as hard as you need. Ford or Chevy is the way to go, no other trucks compare.

Was just like most people I know. The Fords are somewhat cheaper...all options considered. Tried a new Dodge, a 2009 F-150, a 2008 Silverado. Dodge was obviously the least desirable. Big engine and HP but vintage late 70's ride...but cheap. F-150 was extremely quiet and seemed to be very solid. However, 5.4 felt like I was towing a house even before we put a load on it...and really bad resale value. No acceleration without "work". Even without a load, it always felt like it was working hard to keep up with traffic. The Silverado had "balls" no matter the RPM, load, or situation. A little loud inside but always ready to haul...May not be the cheapest, but BY FAR, the highest most driver freindly :)

The new Chevy Silverado is a stylish, competant truck. It shows just how serious GM is in competing within this field. One complaint, though, is why does GM still use a 4 speed automatic, when it's competitors have 5 and or 6 speed autos? Though they supposedly have a 6 speed auto in the wings, why wasn't it just introduced right off the bat? Just doesn't seem right to saddle such a nice vehicle with powerful engines with an ancient transmission. Otherwise, this is a great truck and should satisfy it's owner for years to come.

A v6 standard in a full sized truck is just weak unless you want a really big trunk. I like all makes I just want a good deal but my 2003 Chevy I bought new now has 63k with only  a battery change and all else works great. I might add also that I do timely maintenence on it as well. I WELL NEVER BUY another full sized truck with a v6. They get the job done but they take their sweet time about it and the fuel milage isn't better than the v8 5.3 unless your always on the highway and not passing anyone. TRUST ME!

1991 with 250,000 miles. Just rebuilt the tranny last month. I`ve replaced the alternator at 159,000  The fuel pump at 191,000  Starter at 185,000. The battery has had to be replaced one time and I traded for another new battery that I didn`t need a few year later. I am still runnin one original universal joint and the air is as cold as I`ve ever felt. I had the truck fever a couple of years back but I can`t part with this solid old truck. My 97 Tahoe is a good smooth riding and handling vehicle but the fuel system on the Vortec has been a bigger problem than the TBI on the 91 truck.

I really like the Silverado. In my opinion it has the nicest style and best comfort of all the truck out there. I was buying a truck and it was between a Silverado and a Toyota Tundra, I went for the Silverado because of the comfort while driving and sitting in side. Hopefully it will last as long as a Toyota Tundra will.

Why is it that all chevy lovers compare their "truck" to a Ford? Could it be because Ford is the standard. If i need grocerys I'll get a CAR!

After fifteen years, our once new Silverado is still kicking! It has been the best purchase we ever made. Only complaint was the flaking paint which caused a new paint job in 1996 and it eats up front tires on the inside walls.

Well I think My Silverado is great, It does everything i need it to do and never complains, never been in for any repairs and it gets over 22 MPG on the highway. I won;t get into the debate on whose trucks are better, It depends on how you use them, every truck had it's good points and bad, and as far as i am concerned i am very happy with mine.

I have always liked the Chevy and GMC truck line, they have always been #1 in my book, up until the new models have came out, with the big front ends with the 4 headlights and rounded tail lights in back, I think overall the new Chevy and GMC trucks look pretty good from the side, haven't really changed a whole lot from previous years, but I guess the front and back of the truck with it's new lighting system would probably have to grow on me for me to truly like it.... GM could still be making the best trucks, I just like the way the new Dodge Hemi looks....I think overall Ford, Dodge, Chevy are making some fine machines and they are all great, and it probably doesn't really matter what you get, they are all good. GM as a whole is kinda killing it for me, with it's line of Cars these days, they all look plain and boring to me and the price tags are high.....We will have to wait and see..

I grew up with fords. Love the 460. But I haven't been impressed with ford's styling. Inside or out. The exterior looks similar to a dodge (not knocking the dodge). The interior in(The newer models)looks to me like it has a cheap snap together dash, and they are uncomfortable to ride in or drive. They used to be the best. I don't know what happened or what ford was thinking. It has caused me to go Chevy. I have a 1996 1-ton crew cab dually that I bought brand new. Has all the bells and whistles and the styling inside and out is very nice. with the usual maintenance, all I have ever had to replace is the battery and a water pump. Tires too, of course. I'm sold. 128,000 miles and counting!

Well, i guess i have another COMPLIMENT for my truck. i raced the new SS Silverado with that big "6.0" last night and i gained half a car length on him. we stopped at the red light and he said that that was all it took for him to get rid of it. c'mon Chevy, all that money for something that will get whooped by a $20k truck???? THIS IS MY FIRST CHEVY--03 REG. CAB 5.3--AND I HAVE TO ADMIT IT HAS A TID BIT MORE PICKUP THAN THE TOYOTA TUNDRA BUT IT IS WAAAAY OVERPRICED. THE QUALITY SUCKS, IT SQEEKS LOUDLY AT EVERY TAKEOFF AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT LOUD ENOUGH FOR ME WOULD BE TO TAKE OFF THE CATS...I GUESS ONCE A TOYOTA MAN, ALWAYS A TOYOTA MAN!! TO ALL OF YOU DIE HARD AMERICAN MADE CHEVY FANS GO TEST DRIVE A TOYOTA TUNDRA WHICH IS ALSO AMERICAN MADE. IT WONT BE AS FAST BUT THE QUALITY AND DURABILITY, AND LOOKS AS WELL, WILL ALWAYS OUTPERFORM DODGE, CHEVY, AND FORD. FIND A WEBSITE THAT SHOWS THE CRASH TEST RESULTS BETWEEN A TUNDRA AND AN F150 OR 1500, YOU WILL BE AMAZED!!! FORD, D... Read more

you can say what you want about fords. i will tell you this - i run a shop in which we build show trucks and offroad racing trucks. there is a reason a majority of enthusiasts run gm motors and trannies in their fords during their buildups. f150 frames are as tough as the aluminum sections they run in the rear (a low speed collision from the rear means you taco your frame).. fords can't tow. their trannies fall apart (c4/c6/e40d). you can't buy buildup kits for them, they have to be extensively modified in order to take any kind of abuse. there is no stock ford truck that is faster than any stock chevy. from a mechanic's standpoint, there is no reason to buy ford unless you were simply raised a "ford guy" and know nothing else. there simply is no comparison between the two unless you have 'ford' engrained in your soul. gm has always been faster, better looking, and more dependable.

Most of these comments or worthless on the site. Fords are better or chevy are the best and fords suck. Both are okay but both have there problems also. I have had some minor problems with the silverado. Like a lot of people complain about piston slap. Mine isn't that loud but some engines are loud and should be replace but chevy says they are normal. I use fuel cleaner additive and it helps. The brakes are much better on the 2001 and up. Dont like the power mirrors because they shake to much. The air condition is really good but dont leave it on the coldest setting all the time or you will get a lot of mold build up. Haven't had any major problems. Just think some of the interior kind of cheap but the ford is about the same on that also. They put some really cheap tires and floor mats on these new trucks. I think they are good trucks but definetly not worth the money. Most of the parts are made in Mexico. GM must pocket a lot of money on that cheap labor. Ford trucks have t... Read more

I've read some of the other comments, and felt compelled to submit my own to clear up a few things. First of all I'm so sick of hearing that Ford's out sale Chevy. Here's the truth: Ford has never outsold Chevy from now until the beginning of time! Ford doesn't tell you in there ads that they only outsale chevy in a division. When you put chevy and GMC together, they've out sold Ford by roughly 100,000 units a year over the past 20 yrs. A GMC is nothing more than a Chevy in GMC cladding. Another thing is the comment that Ford's sit higher, which some of these dim wits think it gives them better ground clearance. Yes it's true, Ford's sit higher, but don't have better ground clearance. The way the chevy suspension is designed, it gives you about an inch more clearance than Ford. So basically you get better ground clearance, and a lower step in height. I challenge any stock Ford V-8 out there to try and out run my 5.3 chevy. I also challenge any Ford or Dodge to out do the mileage I get.... Read more

All I have to say is drive them all. Drive the Toyota, Dodge, Ford and Chevy/GMC....put all to the test, I did. And once again GM proved why it's the best, and why Motor Trend gave the Silverado and HD highest honors. Ford, throw a load in the back and step on the gas and all it gives you is a "What?" response. You just can't ask it to do any work, just a nice ride on the highway. Dodge, yea the new one, still looks like a truck (on the outside) that says work me but it still has the old 'DOG' engine and trans....and we all know about that combo. And what's up with the 'Minvan' dash? Toyota, nice in 4x4 but don't ask it to be a daily driver, very uncomfortable and no power. The Chevy just did everything better, nice ride on both the highway and in 4x4, strong engine...when you hit the gas it jumps and forget about that load of wood in the back, the strong 5.3 can't tell it's there. Last of all it has room in the ex-cab for full size people.
