 | vtlpluyr (0) 01/15/2008 | I have an 1998 F-150 SC XLT 4X4 4.6L Off Road with 274K on it. I was very annoyed with the cost of fixing the manifolds which Ford will not put a re-call on. I bought it used a few years ago and got a lot of hard core use out of it (pulling machinery trailers and Farm stuff). For the money I am extremely satisfied. Yes I had problems ($2800 over the last 160K) but it was so inexpensive as a used truck that I still feel that I got a great deal. The ride is spectacular and even now it feels very tight! Fuel economy rivals many full-size cars and mini-vans if you drive it near the speed limit. I have had 4 Toyotas before it and will buy another F-150.

 | the45er (0) 07/17/2007 | I have been a GM man for a very long time, I recently thought it would be good to try a change. I had driven the 07' F-150 and it handels very well and the ride is fair. I purchased an FX4 4X4 off road pkg to equal the Z71 from Chevrolet. After 2000 miles I have BUYERS REMORSE! I normally put a great many aftermarket accessories on and I am having a very hard time finding even little things such as wind visors, bug shields etc..it's the small things that get to me as well like the poor gauges, no visor lighting, the limited tilt steering. The power fold mirrors were touted like a major advance in technology! I missed seeing the small stuff assuming it would be there and when I do find accessories they are much higher than previous years of F-150's. I thought about putting a blower to try and get a boost from the 5.4L that advertised 300hp?? After a drive to the dyno shop I almost put it back on the lot where I bought it. It only came up to 266. I am goig to have to try and pro chip it to get what the horsepower they claim to have? I spoke with a ford motor tech and they were not overly concerned about it and stated there wasn't much they could do. Gas milage is yet to be determined, for after the break in I always run a synthetic or Royal Purple with Duralube. I always have acheived better mileage with either one. After shopping for a supercharger I found great buys on E-bay and several other sites with lightning SVT's abundant but the new F-150 has new engine placement under the hood and NO retofitting any parts period! After finding this out and trying to get a 07' specific mount the cheapest charger is $3680.00 & if you want a Whipple it will set you back $6100.00!! thats about $45 a horse trying to get 150 ponies! For a meat and potatoes truck it does not have any strong future. I admit I am very picky about the small stuff but it is hard earned money each month. I am still trying to give it a chance but I have a feeling it won't change much. It gets points for ride and handeling, power and accessories are mild appearance is small and nothing for a good start for a trick truck. I see a trade in my immediate future.

 | barneyboy (1) 04/14/2007 | I own a 2004 F150 FX4 (new body style), and it is my first Ford vehicle. The truck has been a tank through a few harsh Colorado winters and I haven't had one issue with reliability, although I'm only at 35,000 miles.
The comfort level of this truck is tremendous (stiff frame with welded-through crossbars, outboard rear shocks and independent front suspension makes it handle much like a car), yet it has taken all of the offroading I have put it through.
The 5.4L Triton pulls my 27' camper like a champ (it's no diesel, but it's got good torque), and there are many nice aftermarket products for this truck (programmers, CAI's, e-fans, drive by wire throttle bodies, exhausts, superchargers etc...). I'm looking forward to the rumored 379 cubic inch (6.2L) Ford Boss engine that might be in the '09 F150's.
Oh, I read someone say that they thought the interior was cheesy and looked like it is 'snapped together'; well actually, nothing could be further from the truth. The interior in my FX4 is very comfortable, practical, tough and good looking. In fact, I've never seen such a nice interior in a truck (except for the new redesigned Tundra)

 | 1cody8128 (0) 04/14/2006 | I bought a F-150 new in 1997 and it's been a nightmare ever since.Five recalls from the company plus a load of other problems.Ford seems unable or unwilling to fix the problems.I have been a ford man since the early 60's and this is the first bad one I ever had.I traded a 1992 Dodge(loaded) in on it and that was the worst decision I ever made.I realize there are a lot of Ford fans out there and I apologize if I ruffled their feathers.I was a ford fan also but knowing that Ford is aware of these problems and is unwilling to help was enough. How would you like to have to shell out an extra $1000.oo a year for a new clutch every year?I'm told it's just the quality of the replacement parts. What a lot of BULL.

 | Idowa (0) 04/08/2006 | Bought a `99 F-150 4x4 supercab XLT with 34k miles on it in 2001. It was to be my wife's daily driver. Was in the shop several times. After some research, realized just how crappy these trucks really are! Ours had a bad cylinder head which is very common in the `98-`01 5.4 V8s, we also had the window frame crack, two bad MAF sensors, and a bad throttle-position sensor.
Traded it in on a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500...Total crap...Finally bought a Nissan Pathfinder and never had a single problem since.

 | 93century (36) 01/02/2006 | The only Ford F150's i prefer are the boxy pre 1997 body styles with the 300ci straight or inline 6 cylinder engine. Im pretty stubborn when it comes to choosing an engine in a vehicle. I prefer something that has been made for years that lasts forever.

 | TUTONES (0) 12/10/2005 | You Chevy guys crack me up. Don't get me wrong..I love chevy's..as long as it's a corvette or a camaro.
Trucks are a different matter all together. I never feel like I am in a truck when I'm in a chevy.Especially older models....You can jack em'up,trick it out...put your 48 inch super sick swampers on it...whatever...and I bet you money if I drive behind it...it will smell like it's running rich.
It as if it was trying to be something it's not.
Have you seen the new Chevy trucks?...they look like something only my granpa would get exited about.
But let's get real... when it comes to track record reliability, looks etc. Ford has always led the way.
Anyone who complains about what a piece of crap their rig was, could of had the same problem with Dodge, chevy,Ford, porsche,Aston martin, Kia, Mercedes or Bently.
SORRY FOR YOUR LUCK!

 | tvicker (0) 10/10/2005 | I have a 1992 F-150 4x4 with 149k on her and she still runs and drives every bit as good as the day she was built. (Still looks nice too!) In fact, just a few weeks ago I used this truck to pull 8'-12' trees out of my yard right by the roots. I Broke a 10,000 lb. tow strap in the process, had to buy a 17,000 lb strap to complete the job. Not bad for a 14 year old truck! Ford "F Series" trucks have been the best selling vehicle for the last 28 straight years for a reason. They are tough and are built to last a long... long time. Sold my last F-150 with 278,000 original miles on it (still ran like a champ). That truck spent it's life as a logging truck in northern Wisconsin. A life of punishment and the ford never skipped a beat. When you buy a Ford F-Series truck, you drive it intil you want to sell it, not until you have to sell it. If you want to drive it until it quits, I hope you're not in any hurry.

The testing techniques of each company are so different, they can hardly be compared. The only company that tests as hard as Ford is Toyota. (awesome product in it's own) Take it from someone that knows, Ford makes one of the best pickups in the world.

Didn't really want a ford (ex windstar owner) but I'm guardedly optimistic, and see nothing here about class-action-type problems (which is the norm for other ford products)
Typical suburbanite...haul loads of dirt, and gravel, crap to the dump; mine's only 2wd, but still pretty good in the mud.

 | DeniseRL (0) 05/30/2003 | Bought a 1999 new in Sept. of '98. Power window on driver's side was slow from the date of purchase, when it got cold we had to push it down while we held down on the button. Took it in for repair, still have the same problem. Door locks stopped working right after warranty ran out. Check engine light goes on and off. My dad is a mechanic and was able to get a reading from the computer that said it needs a new Oxygen sensor. Both 1st and 2nd gear burned up in the transmission. Apparently if you get stuck in snow or mud, you can not "rock" the vehichle out, because of the design of the transmission. The transmission fluid becomes unevenly distributed between the low gears and reverse, resulting in the burning up of the low gears. My father took out the transmission and had it rebuilt. It cost $900. He also put back in the transmission. Would have been around $2000 without his labor and connections. Also there is a defect with the gearshift. 2 year old pulled it out of gear while the key was turned slightly between accesory and off, without applying break pressure. Brakes lock-up in morning with the slightest pressure causing you to almost break your neck. It only has 70K miles, 2/3 of those are highway miles. We never pull anything with it. IF YOU"RE LOOKING FOR A TRUCK, PASS UP YOUR NEAREST FORD DEALER!

The first time I ever saw the F-150 crash it was versus a LeBarron. I came around the truck and saw a crumpled fender on the F-150 and figured it was just minor wreck. Nope. The F-150 had ripped the front end mostly off the car. Needless to say I was impressed with the F-150 and it has preformed in a simlar manner everytime I have seen it crash. I'm a car guy but after having seen the new design to the truck and seeing it at accidents, I'm ready to go for a test drive.

 | NYExpress (0) 11/30/2001 | All I have to say is drive them all. Drive the Toyota, Dodge, Ford and Chevy/GMC....put all to the test, I did. And once again GM proved why it's the best, and why Motor Trend gave the Silverado and HD highest honors.
Ford, throw a load in the back and step on the gas and all it gives you is a "What?" response. You just can't ask it to do any work, just a nice ride on the highway. Dodge, yea the new one, still looks like a truck (on the outside) that says work me but it still has the old 'DOG' engine and trans....and we all know about that combo. And what's up with the 'Minvan' dash? Toyota, nice in 4x4 but don't ask it to be a daily driver, very uncomfortable and no power. The Chevy just did everything better, nice ride on both the highway and in 4x4, strong engine...when you hit the gas it jumps and forget about that load of wood in the back, the strong 5.3 can't tell it's there. Last of all it has room in the ex-cab for full size people.

The drivers side window got stuck down and exploded sending glass everywhere when it finally decided to release itself. The seats would sink down after about 30 min. in them. Cushions would lose firmness. The Triton engine was okay but was noisy. The heater leaked in the cab. The radio quite on one side. Terrible wind noise from improper windshield trim installation. Paint was bad. Other than that, it was perfect! I would rather buy a moped than but another Ford product. I bought a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado after getting rid of the Ford. Not to mention FORD has an awsome financing rate..
Chevs are very low to the ground, like take a look

FORD has more Foot pounds of torque at a much

the Chev dealers a Freaking pricks with you, Ford
has excellent customer service...

It was loud, and had a power steering noise that Ford said was normal. This was after changing the power steering pump and steering box. Rear end developed a shuttering during turns and the paint always looked like it had water spots. Although it was more comfortable than my Buick, I traded this truck in for a 2000 Silverado.

Other than needing mudguards over the rear wheels, the truck rides like a Cadillac. Ironicly, it rides smoother with a load. It corners better than my 93 Ranger. Good Job, FORD, but the 5.4 liter could use some more help in the low-end arena.
