His stand during the attempted coup would give him 5 stars. His sloth thereafter knocks it down.

Yeltsin was a great character, but by this I mean he was a complete dick. By keeping Russia weak he was an asset for the West but not for the Russian people.

Not worth even a piece of used toilet paper.

An alcoholic maniac. I hope his liver is so inflamed that it pushes the rest of his organs against his rib cage and causes him unimaginable agony. If there is justice in the world than no more severe alcholics will get into positions of power comparable with this one. (Just look at Bush, as IF he quit drinking, and even if he did he still behaves like an alcoholic.)

Stupid drunk.

Is the glass half full or empty? I guess Boris would see it as half full and make damn sure that it would be empty within no time!

He was the necessary man at a critical time in the collapse of the Soviet Empire. Unfortunately he squandered his opportunity by tolerating corrupt behavior in his regime.

He was a great Russian president that they needed after the fall of the Soviet Union and communism.

He was a horrible leader for Russia, true, he did keep democracy (barely) afloat. If he managed the economy of his country better and had kept the 7 billion dollars worth in aid away from Russian bureaucrats, he might have actually done something. His form of democracy was just too liberal, the Russians are a demoralized people, thus they permit political cronisism to occur. He was a leader that could have been great, but he did not capitalize at the historic momement.

Useless, self-serving drunk.

This 'politician' has done NOTHING for his country... but a lot for himself.

At least he was funny & seemed friendly, but I didn't like his militarism.

He was the first President of Russia. He enden the era of totalitarianism. He started a war in Checnhya. He was democratically elected by Russian people. He defended 'White House' during comunists' coup d'etat. He ordered to open fire at the Parliament in 1993. He did everything to stay for the second term. He resigned when there still was 6 months till the next elections. Is there black or white? Decide for yourself.

What a lost opportunity. Yeltsin could have had a place in history if he'd managed Russia's transition from communism to a lawful market economy. Instead gangsters took over the country while he was too drunk to do anything....
