Hosni Mubarak (Egypt) 1

Horrible president. Stifles religion in the country, and persecutes religious people every chance he gets to spread fear among the people for practicing their religion. Lets the police take them and torture them. He is very corrupt, as you can tell from his mansions for vacationing while the people in Egypt starve and suffer from the high prices of everything while their salaries stay very low.

Now he plans on making sure his son is the next president... what is the world coming to?

He is the new pharoah, but doing a passable job. You can't play by the Marquess of Queensbury Rules in an Arab country.

A moderate leader in a sea of extremism, Hosni Mubarak has been a lynchpin for peace in Egypt and in the region for over 25 years. However, he has been slow in reacting to the intense changes sweeping his country. Charges that many in his cabinet, including his son, engaged in corrupt activities surrounding the privatization of certain state industries has caused Mubarak's support to go down. Top this off with a bloated public sector and excessive government spending and you have a recipe for political and economic instability. Such weaknesses give an opening to extremists in the country, something which Mubarak needs to be watchful for. Given his advanced age, I don't see him being President for long. The last thing we need is another fundamentalist government in the region, but given how events are playing out, the rise of multi-party elections at this time will probably yield that result, much to the detriment of the peace process in the region.

Better than the typical Arab leader, but that isn't saying much. A despot presiding over a Third World dump.

Mubarak has been running Egypt for almost 25 years now. Aside from political stability, what does Egypt have to show for it? Not much. No political or economic reform to speak of, nor any real foreign policy initiatives like Sadat. Population growth is still out of control: Cairo is overpopulated and falling to pieces. The average Egyptian is poorer now than he was in the 1970s! Mubarak isn't as brutal as Saddam was, or the Saudis still are, but arbitrary arrest, torture, imprisonment and even execution still happen on a daily basis. Because of this, and Mubarak's refusal to allow any real political opposition, he has turned many Egyptians towards Islamic terrorism (Osama's second-in-command is an Egyptian doctor who was tortured in one of Mubarak's dungeons). The latest word is that Mubarak wants his son, Gamal Mubarak, to be his successor as 'president for life'.

Before I post any rating to Hosni Mubarak, I'd like to answer all the comments I've seen on this page. Islam is the only thing right on earth nowadays, and whoever says anything about it is an ignorant and has the devil in his side. Anyway, Mubarak is not considered as a president to the Egyptians, the last president was Sadat and Sadat and King Fisal was true leaders to the Arabs and Muslims. The west realized this fact and set those leaders up and made everything to get them out of the way. One day, it will be soon, Islam will prove its reliability and trusty is spite of Jews nose and tricks

Pure evil. This man cannot be trusted. Egypt itself can never be trusted. All of these Islamic fascists are exactly the same as Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc.

He is not using his influence and power to force the israeli thugs to make peace. The people of Palestine are suffering under the zionist government and the Egyptian President isn't doing anything about it.Who cares about israel, what has he done for his country.

Here's a guy who hasn't done much to stop the terror and torture of American tourists by Islamic fundamentalists in his own backyard. He can't guarantee the safety of our people, plus his "alliance" with Israel has only served to alienate him from his own populace. What a clown.

I do not think that Mubarak is such a great leader as many says, since he have not visited Israel in all these years that he has been president of Egypt. The Israeli leaders has visited Egypt, but Mubarak do not have the guts to vist the only democray in the whole Middle East!

Mr. Mubarak is nothing but a slave to of the System. This man has done nothing for the suffering people of Egypt or the Middle East for that matter. He has sold out to the Israelis, to the Americans and has forgotten where he has come from, a poor country with poor people. He doesn't even deserve 1 star, he deserves negative. A truly disgusting monster, that has shown the Eastern peoples what a sell out looks like! Anyone giving him credit knows nothing about politics or has been bought buy the same hand that bought the dog Mubarak! I hope he gets assassinated soon, otherwise there'll be more trouble in Egypt.

Hosni Mubarak is a great arab leader. When he came to power he had to face the embargo by the arabs on egypt after the 1979 peace agreement with Isreal. Egypt was more stable under his rule more than any other president since the revolution in 1953. He is a great supporter of the Palestinian cause, despite any rumors.

Legendary Mubarak took an unorthodox rise to power - first army general and now president. I think Egypt should scrap the parliament and instate Mubarak as king.
