I remember when I was a kid this guy was considered a terrorist. When ever a plane was hi-jacked they talked to Arafat. With his Italian restraunt head gear and dark sun glasses. Now he is a politician. I don't think so! Update: He is dead now and the peace process has moved further along since he has gone vs. the time he was on the planet.

He always denies involvement in the bombings, but Arafat always explicitly approves of the actions. Arafat has fallen down the central divide of Palestinian politics, thus weakening the hand he has in negotiating a truce with the Israelis. Much can be said as well against the Israelis, who continue to deal heavyhandedly with the Palestinians, denying them basic rights. Neither Sharon or Arafat are willing to budge, so nothing is going to happen until these two fossils pass the scene.

arafat sucks. you are all stupid for thinking he is a freedom fighter. he is a killer. you think you know what you are talking about? try to leave in israel for just one day, for one pathetic missreable day. all you american's think you no what terror is? you no nothing. you had one terror attack and thats it. here in israel we have lots of terrorism attacks every day. you should have seen my school after one of the attacks- every body crying hearing one name after another of a friend thats hurt or dead, every body with thier cell phones looking for thier friends and some days/weeks after that kids was starting to appear, on crutches or wheel chairs. half of the school was like that. some of the kids are'nt even back yet, some of them are still on crutches or limping. try to go to a school like that, try to live in a country like that and then i want to see you talking about how great arafat is. and i'm not saying that the israeli athourities are not to blame for some of whatis going on but it's bad enough that we have a goverment who doesn't do s**t to stop the war we have people from the outside thinking they understand what's going on and saying that terrorist is a "freedom fighter".

Arafat is a unique man. Although losing most battles he remains the undisputed leader of the palestinians in their struggle to become liberated and free from the ruthless jewish military occupation. His efforts to raise awareness of the plight of palestinian refugees for more than 50 yrs is applaudable. The world now realizes the suffering of millions of Palestinians caused by Israel's refusal to allow refugee's safe passage to their homes (as required by int'l law and human rights conventions)
