How do you say bad in bi-lingual? Oh yeah, tres mal! They ought to wear sacks over their heads north of the border to hide their shame for electing this mope! He wore out the Liberals and that was why it was tossed out in the last General Election.

Broke every promise he made, had to have his arm twisted for over a decade to support equal rights for same-sex couples, allowed two U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency offices to open in Canada, and did countless other bad things...No bonus for staying out of Iraq, because he only did to prevent protests so massive that Parliament would not be able to function...1 star for good fiscal management, although I'm not fond of the backs he broke to balance the budget. LIBEREZ-NOUS DES LIBERAUX!!! VOTE NDP!!!
Paul2505 07/27/2005
He decimated Canada's once proud military, turned Canada's international voice from influentianl to worthless and was involved in blatant corrupt practices. Our soldiers lost thier lives in outdated dangeroud equipement, while his party members get brand new private jets. He was arrogant and bull-headed, calling his run as PM his legacy , while in realit the only reason he got elected again was at the time, the other choices were even worse. Now, his crony Paul Martin is PM, the former Finance Minister who claims he didn't know where all this money was being wasted - but that's another story. 2/5 because he didn't let Canada descend into Anarchy.

What can I say? Bad outweighs the Good. Against Christians (so much for religous freedom) and ruining our relations with the U.S? Ouch, bad move. Nice going leader, I'm glad you retired.
kierchehof 09/02/2004
He broke his promises. He promised he'll get rid of all the crap taxes Brian Mulroney put up. Actually, it was Mulroney who ruined Canada, Cretien just helped. And what now? Paul Martin. Another Liberal. Okay, Mulroney was a Conservative, but that makes no difference. As long as Canada continues with this two-party charade, nothing good is going to happen.

Mr. Chrétien did nothing of merit for Canada, save the balanced budget (why he got 1 extra star). He governed as a dictator and ruined Canada's relationship with the US, our most important partner and ally (despite what the CBC would have us believe). I have high hopes for Mr. Martin's government.

Brave, forward looking, and a risk taker. The prime minister has developed a sense of pride in Canadians and freed them from their subserviance to the U.S.A. and the U.K.

Jack Cretin is the living embodiment of America Junior. Dumb, leftist and irrelevant.
StanUzbeck 07/28/2003
I am going to give Chretien a 2. He used to be a 4 when he had courage and idealism, and even when he stood up to the Bloc Quebecois and helped to keep the country together. Since then he has become far too comfortable in his office. His level of smugness is nauseating, like when he makes jokes about pepper-spraying protesters, or snubs Bush. Everyone in Canada hates George Bush, but the Prime Minister cannot afford to let his emotions get in the way of diplomacy. I'm not saying he should have supported America's stupid war, but he could have done more to keep the diplomacy alive between our countries. Yes, Bush is a little child waving his daddy's shotgun, but a good politician will find ways of working with that. He didn't accept the resignation of the cabinet minister who publically called Bush a moron, which was a mistake. I mean, Bush IS a moron, and that's being very generous, but a civil servant has the duty to keep such childish namecalling out of the picture. I am not ashamed that he has defied the Bush administration, but I am ashamed of the way he did it. Canada deserves better, because it IS better than he is.

Canada = France, North American branch. Canada is nothing more than America Jr. and they need to get with the program. You have a high GNP and a lot of economic power only because of your close proximity to the USA. Your country has zero influence on the rest of the world. I would suggest, Monsieur Chretien, that you respect your most important ally and understand that the US is your only defense from the rest of the world, and that it is US dollars that support your country economically as well.
tonyb99 04/09/2003
A pathetic man desperate for a legacy. Has no morals, no ethics, simply blows in the wind. Actually abrogated his responsibility to speak for Canada by saying we will do whatever the UN wants! Thank goodness Bush and Blair have principles and guts.
Joe23665 04/03/2003

The guy is the biggest joke in the history of Canada. The loser can rarely open his disfunctional mouth without putting his arrogant French foot in it! He repeatedly embarasses our nation with his statements, as well as the remarks of his Liberal M.P's. I hope his ass isn't too sore from sitting on the fence all the time! I think it's about we get rid of this guy, and regain our respect within the international community. p.s Congratulations to our American and British allies for having the balls to do what we and everyone else won't!
mikelem 03/19/2003
Our Prime Minister has been in power too long.It is time for him to retire. If he doesn't, he will leave political life as one of the biggest jokes in canadian politics. He will leave not only short in height but also short in stature.Sad! Sad!

He's a socialist namby-pamby who will do anything to make the U.S. look bad. He's a gutless wonder who won't stand up to Iraq and who fails to realize that might makes right. We've got to get rid of Saddam and this guy before he wins the next election and makes the Canadians suffer even more under his leadership. AMERICA, BAY-BEE!!
gopman79 03/10/2003
He is one corrupt individual. Albeit, I am from Ohio, and I have the comfort of dealing with Bush ever day, but I know with interactions between some friends in Canada that this man is a mess. He doesn't present anything new to a downtrodden economy full of dead end government programs (sorry Canadians, but it is true). He also banks way too much on his popularity, from what I can tell, he seems kind of paranoid when it comes to the polls. Overall, I am sure he is a nice guy, but definately not a good PM.

Cowardly cretin frog. Canada is America junior without the greatness of character or potential while it is be subsumed in a sea of third world flotsam and Islamic trash it becomes more idiotic leftist and shrill about it's importance as a moral authority. It is without any significant military strength or character and will end up a suburb of Detriot.

I’m Canadian and I’m absolutely embarrassed that this buffoon has dictated the country the way he has for as long as he has. He’s criminal, corrupt, scandalous, incompetent, slimy and stupid, yet people are blind to his antics. Canada was a great place ten years ago…but now the country is falling downhill and much of it is Chretien’s fault. PCI is 1/3 lower than it was ten years ago and doesn’t even rank in the top fifteen in the world anymore. The dollar is low and the economy is anemic. Don’t believe the Chretien’s media blitz painting the constant rosy picture -- the economy is “always booming”. All this is smoke and mirrors. I could go on and on about how pathetic this man is and how he’s really ruined Canada’s stature, but I’ve made my point. I give him one star because “no stars” is not an option. I hope other Canadians finally wake up and realize what a mess this man has made before it is too late…
100%Canadian 01/10/2003
A cynical man who has managed to fool most Canadians into believing he's a "man of the people". Comparing him to Trudeau is like comparing a common rat to a rat with principles. A statesman looks to the future of the nation. The only future JC is/was concerned about was his own.
Shukhevych 12/08/2002
Too liberal... health care is in shambles, and the military is puny.
LeMat 11/27/2002
As a Canadian studying domestic politics, it's really hard to place Jean Chretien. He is a patriot, whether it seems like it sometimes or not. What I feel to be his greatest setback in popularity is just that; his popularity. He started off as a real political streetfighter in the 60s, but hasn't left the Hill since. For more than forty years, he's been surrounded and consumed by power, and it seems that his primary concern is preserving it through any means at any cost, even if it means he's as much the leader of Canada as the lifeguard is of a pool. Now that he's announced his retirement, however, we're starting to see the idealist, proactive Trudeau-cabinet Energizer Bunny that we meant to elect. Right now, he is muscling his majority government around to accomplish these new, truly great initiatives because he's retiring, and has nothing left to fear from Paul Martin and the Cabinet. The great irony that will haunt Chretien five years from now until the day he dies is this: If he had acted without fear like this ten years ago, he would have had nothing to fear in the first place.

He needs to get a pair of running shoes for playing basketball...
stamptz 11/24/2002
He's a liar, a bully and it's very probable, a thief. Chretien is the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had. He buys votes in Quebec and Ontario and those people are too stupid to figure it out. Anyone that thinks he's any good have been out of the country for a long period of time or they don't have a brain. Good riddance when this clown retires.
finlore 05/29/2002
The longer Jean Chretien remains prime minister of Canada, the less credibility we have. He is a disgrace to all of us. I disagree with Red240Z on one point -- I don't think Chretien is bad at being phony; I think he's very good at it. He plays the role of "the little guy from Shawnigan", playing up his self-described man of the people image -- after several decades as a very accomplished federal politician. Now, his arrogance is without end; constant accusations of corruption haunt his administration and are only dealt with when no other choice remains. Is he the only thing keeping Quebec in Canada? I can't imagine giving Quebeckers so little credit; the people of Quebec are fully capable of making such decisions without a prime minister like him. I've supported the Liberal party since I first voted for Trudeau; if Chretien chooses to run again as leader of the party, I cannot possibly continue to support the party. Jean Chretien may have been sincere at one point in his political career -- in fact, I think he was -- but I doubt he can remember how it felt.
northnord 05/13/2002
What a horrible man. Corrupt, arrogant, shallow. I don't care how much he loves the country, he is a disgrace to the office and it is imperative he be removed as soon as possible. A classic Liberal politician, I might add - sleaze, patronage, pork-barreling, fence-sitting and do-anything-say-anything-to-win attitude.
canuck77 12/04/2001
He might be arrogant, over-concerned with being popular, winning elections, and leaving "a legacy", but I'm still a fan of Chretien. After all, how can one not admire a man with a disability who is a below average public speaker who has won three back to back majorities and remained incredibly popular? I wouldn't say he was a great man or anything, but compared to the abysmally low grade of politicians we see in Ottawa, we're lucky to have him in the driver's seat.
crispytomato 11/08/2001
Jean Chretien is the best Prime Minister of Canada ever, perhaps only surpassed by the great Elliot Trudeau. He is my personal favourite because he jokes around a bit, which makes him seem like a real person people can relate to. He should not be judged by his mispronounciation of English because it is his second language and he has a disability concerning his mouth. I wish he could stay in office forever, however if an Alliance member like Stockwell Day were to be elected, he might never leave *shudder*. I believe that is why the law exists. Overall, Jean Chretien has done a great job as Prime Minister of Canada, and I would vote for him anytime.
olsaintnic 09/04/2001
I'm from canada and this guy is just unforgivable. The whole thing with the hotel scandle is obvisouly corrupt and his party does not have any original ideas at all. They just steal ideas from other parties and claim all the credit. He also promised to do away with the GST. I don't know what their excuse is but it's still there. Why do we keep voting this idiot in???
SpiritualMachi ne 08/01/2001
Corrupt, corrupt, corrupt. Chretein is one of the worst prime ministers ever. The Liberal party he has created is a fence sitting, no value, no stance, no mind mixed economy middle of the road corruption machine. At this point, anything is better then this bum.
Arebus Man 07/17/2001
The best politician in the World. He is changing the great country of Canada for the better. Jean Chretien probably saved this country when he campaigned for Quebec to say in Canada. He is also a very nice person.
Blinx 07/12/2001
He's been around for 8 LONG years already. Time for a change, ain't it? I wish Preston Manning would've had the chance to be PM, and I'm sure that if the Reform party was based in all of Canada at the time instead of Western Canada, he would've been. Point is, get rid of Chretien already. He's done very little for all of us.
RonaldReagan00 7 07/08/2001
Ahh... I go to McGill so I had to deal with the Canadian's whole phoney election this year. Honestly I dunno why they're all so wacko liberal up there but it's kinda scary. Why can't they just go ahead and elect a true leader like Stockwell Day? Remember when Canada had a real leader... Brian Mulrooney.
the^elite 03/27/2001
I like Jean Cretien, because he is very poopoolaire amongst his Canadian people. Good job Jean, jets get a 4th term!
cailin 12/23/2000
As a man, he's likeable enough, but (typical of politicians) he's always trying to find out which way the crowd is running so he can get out front and lead them. Unfortunately, that's (too often) a direction determined by the people at CBC, NBC, ABC and FOX.
rami 12/20/2000
He is a good man. He screwed up with his International policies, but he is a good Prime Minister for Canada.
RED240Z 12/02/2000
The man's a joke! He's a horrible speaker, always screwing up his words to the point where it's embarrassing to the country. I used to just laugh it off. I thought it was good that we had a prime-minister who didn't fit in the usual "phony polititian" catagory. After two terms though, I've realised (along with the rest of Canada) that he is a phony. He is just really bad at it. However, he has mildly taken advantage of the good american economy, and by that I mean he hasn't screwed up our own economy. One thing you can be sure about with the liberals in power, is that nothing will drastically change, and therefore nothing will drastically take a turn for the worse. Isn't it strange that the PC's are wanting to implement change, and the liberals are content with things the way they are. Doesn't that contradict their names?
wmac9294om 08/03/2000
A man of integrity and heart, a leader (as opposed to a populist puppet) with a federal vision for Canada. I hope he gets elected one more time.
turk5046ca 03/15/2000
A mindless politician who cares about nothing but his own popularity. No prime minister ever told more lies. Has no respect for the people he represents.
mcke3634om 01/13/2000
I'm Canadian and I have a sneaking suspicion that if the idiots who want to separate from Canada succeed, that he will screw us and become their leader.
