He is ok but just ok overall. He has some positives such as being strong on military (we could use some of that right now in Little Barry Obama's Admin) but his views on illegal immigration cost him the election.

McCain will do what is best for America, not what is best for democrats or republicans. Obama will bring the troops home? Good. But make sure they get trained to be used on our soil to combat here the enemies they do now there. Ooops, but, isn't it unconstitutional to use military force on American soil? Well, maybe we will turn every Armed Forces personnel into law enforcement. John McCain is indisputably the best choice for America, especially in view of the poor choice of the democrats whi failed to bring in a seasoned, veteran politician. Update:

As I watch the development of the elections and the results coming in, I cannot but feel a deep shame for my fellow Christians who have voted for a candidate who has publicly expressed he supports abortion rights. It is definitely a sign of the end times where life is considered a commodity and a merchandise. I cannot imagine how a true Christian could live with his/her conscience knowing that the butchery of innocent, defenseless children will never have a chance to have or celebrate a single birthday. At a rate of 1 million abortions a year, we are looking forward to another 4 million victims of the worst genocide committed by mankind, especially Americans. May God have mercy on their souls even as they have turned their back to God and become accomplices to murder.

Apostasy has won tonight. And Christ

has lost a great number of followers on the altar of money and convenience.

I am ashamed... and hurting.

Hope prevailed on November 4th.  I knew America wouldn't be stupid enough to elect another 'Bush', though I'm shocked that 40% voted for this man.  Shows what they know.  He really killed his campaign getting that Palin chick as his VP pick.  At least Obama picked Joe Biden, a man with 35 years of Senate experience.

I lost a lot of respect for John McCain during his presidential run. I once thought he was a man of integrity and substance, but as his campaign took on the same old republican fear mongering motif I lost confidence in him. Especially bothersome was the progressive weakening of his stance on torture, which once seemed to be the cornerstone of his character. While trying to court his hawkish base, he voted against a bill designed to curtail some of the most objectionable techniques used by the CIA to interrogate prisoners including waterboarding. He also came to believe that the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping program was appropriate.

Mr. McCain is not exactly the choice I had in mind for the Republican ticket. I have been very underwhelmed by his campaign thus far and am frustrated by his unwillingness to go full-throttle on the attack. Fight fire with fire! Seriously, I'm having flashbacks to the Bob Dole campaign here! Yawn.
Anyway, despite all of his shortcomings, Mr. McCain needs to win this election. Why? Because when I look across the table and see what the option is, I start to cringe. Carl Marx...I mean Barak Obama, has visions for an America that looks less like America and more like the police state in George Orwells heartwarming romance novel "1984". Read it. That's our future under men like Mr. Obama. Enjoy!

He keeps doing his job as my Senator, so I keep him in office. A shame he didn't run against Dubya this year.

Update: can't bring myself to vote for him as President, all things considered. Not bad as my Senator, but not sold on putting him in the White House, especially considering the sum of the ticket. Only thing for me to decide now is who to write in, since Obama isn't getting my vote, either.

He was good, until he ran for President the second time. Now he's sold his soul to the Rush Limbaugh wing of his party, the one that keeps chanting "Drill Baby Drill." Also, choosing Sarah Palin wasn't necessarily the best choice, was it?

John McCain did not disclose his connections to a controversial group that was implicated in a secretive plot to supply arms to Nicaraguan militia groups during the Iran-Contra affair in the early 1980s. McCain did not list his service on the board of the U.S. Council for World Freedom on mandatory congressional disclosure forms asking about positions he held outside government.

McCain's current strategy is to try to make people think Obama has bad character by red herring issues like Wm. Ayers, but it's clear that as more of the truth about McCain comes out, McCain is proving to be the one with badly stained character.  He was imprisoned in Vietnam, but that doesn't at all mean his character since then has been sterling nor that he should get a free pass, nor that he's the best qualified candidate for president. He was one of the Keating 5, charged with doing Charles Keating's bidding in the savings and loan scandals, although the affair was whitewashed. McCain has since admitted he was wrong.

Call me a cynic, but I believe that John McCain is ducking out of tomorrow's debate because of purely political reasons at a time when he should be standing up and showing some leadership.  He said that he has suspended his campaign so that he can focus on the economic crisis, but he is not on any of the key economic committees and hasn't cast a vote on anything since last April.  And he obviously was in no rush to get back to Washington, instead he had a photo op with former President Clinton today.  He appears to just be grandstanding so that he won't have to debate Obama at a time when the Republicans look very bad.  I know he's a war hero, but right now he looks more like a drama queen playing politics.

I'm taking this political season pretty hard.  One of my political heroes, John McCain, has sold himself out and has become that which he despised - a despicable, two faced, lying politician willing to do anything to win.

Here's a pretty good article about why some of us are being hit so hard by McCain the liar.

More than half of Karl Rove's staff already works for McCain. The republican cronies Bush has in place now will all also get jobs if McCain gets elected. It is Bush term #3 waiting to happen - no health-care reform, no broad energy plan, international laughter at backwards America,  loss of civil liberties under threats that we should fear terrorists and conform to the right. Is 12 years of this republican government really what we need? No, not only is it not what we need, if McCain gets elected we will see the worst economy since the great depression.

I like McCain alright.  He seems to be a genuine young man (what!  he's younger than Yoda by a couple days!)  He has plenty of experience and honestly I don't think if he's elected that it's just going to be another four years of George the retard Bush philosophy.  I don't know, it's just something about him that I like.  However, with that said, I'm still not going to vote this for two reasons:  1)Regardless of who's elected, it really comes down to what congress wants to do.  They can just veto everything McCain wants to do.  2)I don't know how much more time McCain has on this earth.  He'll be in office for like six months, then die of a heart attack, so that inexperienced bitch Sarah Palin can take over!  I don't think so!

For me, rating these things (convention speeches) is little more than an exercise in futility, as they're invariably carefully-constructed, extensively rehearsed and coached performances of high-flown rhetoric designed to appeal to the party faithful. Giving speeches has never been McCain's strong suit; given that, he performed competently enough covering pretty much everything from his so-called "maverick" status to an afterthought about "working with both sides on the important issues." Of course, issues such as the economy, health care, a deteriorating job situation, the environment, the Middle East, Iraq, and a host of other alarming issues that should have been talked about a long time ago but still really aren't were never addressed. As expected, it was boilerplate right-wing verbiage, lean'n'mean "tough talk" with a little syrup occasionally thrown in to make it more palatable to those outside the base, and flag-waving performance art. Pretty much what was expected, and pretty damn depressing.

Mr.McCain and his campaign team are not talking about issues, but using school yard name calling to run this campaign. It is beneath his dignity. And he is letting right wing supports like Hannity and Limbaugh use the black label as a threat and not challenging them.

Stop talking about nothing but jealous name calling. Talk about the economy that your party has ruined over the last 7 years.

About the best you can say about him is that he's a little better than George W. Bush. Yes, I respect his military service, and he certainly exhibited character in serving his country. However, that was then and this is now. He's too militaristic for my tastes and I am afraid he would continue Dubya's disastrous foreign policy. He also seems to be somewhat of a hothead, and I don't want someone with a hairtrigger temper in the White House. One thing I like about him: his gaffes are funny.

I am an independent with Democrat leanings, but I have a ton of respect for John McCain. This man has served his country well. He is a war veteran. I don't think either candidate particularly strong this year. McCain hasn't shown he knows much about anything other than the military, but I prefer his agenda over an ultraliberal agenda that will be coming from Obama.

I don't care if he went to Vietnam or he was a senator in Arizona. He is an old shit bag. He doesn't know how to use a computer, he clearly loves war, he has 2 personalities when it comes to opinions, he voted against Martain Luther King Day and he thinks war can nurture war. He needs to get to a retirement home before he croaks. You may say that it doesn't matter what age you are to become president and that I am being prejadist against old people but I think that is bullshit. Sometimes people arn't meant to run but of course some brainless constervative who thinks the government actually cares about him or her will vote for someone like McCain.

America may hate blacks and be skeptical about Obama but there are two things they hate more. George Bush and this war he declared to make his corporate buddies rich. People see McCain they see George Bush Part 2 and more Iraq. All Obama has to do is say he's going to pull troops out and McCain still wanting an Iraq occupation (which he does) and you'll be looking at the first black president. Yeah i'm dubious about all this "change" stuff Obama preaches but Americans are beginning to cringe at the sight of politicians who are religious, old, war loving white guys. And that's McSame to a T.

John McCain was once considered to be a real American hero, he's probably STILL a good and decent person, but he's recently scooted way over to the far-right, he accidentally got a bit too close the Bush-League wingnutz and now he lives in Neocon World, right in the heart of the suburbs of Moronville.

  He lives there full-time.

John McCain's campaign is spending A FORTUNE buying political ads to stream into several of my political blogs and my web sites. Still, regardless of how much money I may be getting from those ads, the man OBVIOUSLY can't be trusted with big decisions or sharp objects anymore. Money or NO MONEY, the truth matters.

(See how I did that, all you Republicans, Christians and conservatives? That's called "not being bought" and "refusing to be PWNED"! )

McCain has been all over the place on virtually every issue. He is spoiled punk with a hot temper. Back in 2000, he co-sponsored a bill with three Democrat Senators that would have given illegal Mexicans free healthcare at taxpayer expense. Those of you who believe in socialized medicine may want to ask him why such is good enough for illegals, but not good enough for legitimate US citizens. This bill would also have given these criminals water stations in the desert- God forbid they get thirsty while in the process of entering our country illegally. This guy is a hack who will never occupy the White House.

Update: McCain has opposed Bush on some things and supported Bush on some things. Either way...I am going to try one more time...supporting Bush is NOT supporting "the right". Bush is a moderate at best; McCain is a political prostitute.

Really what can I say? This is a corporal example of the problem in American politics. Ok, first politics works like this: you first have to have a view on collectivism and individualism and then, if you are a collectivist, you have to have a view on liberty; you either support positive liberty or negative (positive and negative have nothing to do with good or bad). I do respect him for his military action but that does not mean I think he should be immune from all criticism. Here is a guy that supports positive liberty one day and negative liberty the next. The problem is that you can't mix the two or else you will have a worthless piece of political muck as your views (we call this republicratism after the twisted views of republicans and democrats). It is kind of like putting diesel in an octane/gasoline car; you don't get the best of two worlds, you just get stuck on the side of the road which, in politics, means that you just cost the lives of countless humans because of preventable starvation, abortion, war and disease (while you were playing golf). People like john McCain make destroying the world look like the compassionate thing to do (and by “people like” I mean all republicans and democrats, they all hate this country and all people in the world but they look like they care). I hope you all hate me for clearly showing dissent towards your parties and your hero that silently kills you.

John McCain has been in the national spotlight for some time, and there isn't much doubt that he is his own man and generally stays true to his principles. Much to the frustration of the Republican Party, McCain appears to be relatively independent (resulting in his gaining respect from the Left); however, he does appear to support the party line on most matters when push comes to shove. All of this is refreshing and appeals to me personally, even if I don't always agree with his positions. Nevertheless, I never doubt that his reasoning and positions are made and held in good faith. Easily a five-star politician in my book, John Sidney McCain III was born August 29, 1936 in the then Panama Canal Zone.

Before the last election I wrote, "I just wish he'd run with Kerry. He's a straight-shooting, decent, honest guy. I love him...and that comes from a liberal." Now that he through all of his support to the worst president this country has ever had the misery of experiencing, for crass political reasons, I think he's far less honorable than I'd first thought. I considered 1 star, but I still tend to think he's reasonably decent, but that he's a political animal like all the rest and does what works best for him, not necessarily for the country.
