I was going to 'write-in' the Philadelphia Phillies but I voted early this year for the Nader/Gonzalez ticket, which shows that I pretty much hate both the Democratic and Republican parties. I maybe agree w/Nader on 20% of the issues but I know enough to know that the two-party system is lame. So, yes, John McCain continue to hang out at Yanni's Wind Palace and Barack Obama continue to bake snickerdoodles in your easy-bake oven.

While I respect Ralph Nader for being principled (even if I rarely if ever agree with his positions), I don't consider him a politician but rather an activist (hence the single star). I'm not aware of Nader holding any public office, and he only runs for same as a member of relatively fringe parties. In other words, Nader has never been burdened with the responsibilities of actual power, so no one really knows how effective he would be in public office (at least any higher office).
MattShizzle 05/21/2006
I like his political opinions, but if he would have stayed out of the last 2 elections we wouldn't have had to endure GWB as president.
SZinHonshu 02/26/2006
Very bright guy. Exceptionally deep thinker. No one can accuse Nader of being an intellectual lightweight or poorly informed regarding the issues. The lack of respect, however, that he demonstrates for the process of selecting a president, however, was sadly revealed when he selected lunatic, aging flower child, and socialist Peter Camejo as his vice-presidential running mate in '04.

One of the biggest, fattest most obtuse phonies in the history of this country.Goes after corporations but cuddles with a bigger threat:Trial lawyers. These creatures give this old yutz lots of $ so that he can rant about the evils of big money.....does anyone see the irony in all of this?Mr.Nader takes big money so he can bash big money.lol

Ralph Nader is a silly old man with the most worn out liberal battle cries as his slogans. More than half of the people of the US feel like liberals are moving away from the mainstream, and this guy is even further left than they could ever hope to be. He is a communist, through and through. He may say he's not, but there is not an issue that a communist would disagree with him on.
nagyovafan 10/13/2005
Mr. Nader deserves more attention. He was at his best in 2000, but I supported him in the 2004 election, as well. He presents a lot of good points and I support him on almost all of his issue stand points.
sue05 08/04/2005
Ralph Nadar has done some great things in years past, but president? no, I don't think so....

A vote for Nader, a vote for Bush.
texas4cash 11/23/2004
he's fought for the rights of countless millions of Americans. He has done some great things in his life for consumers, many of whom can't stand him. He is principled and educated. However, as a politician he's a laugh. He would have done himself and his constituents better by running for the House of Representatives or the Senate. One of those offices he might have won, but the white house, no. He could be a powerful lobbyist for the environment and for safety, but he's no president.
Thorebitty21SD 11/05/2004
While he has a right to promote himself and his views, I think almost everyone can agree on few things. The idea to bring everyone home from Iraq right now is insane. We couldn't possibly do that without causing huge problems for the people of Iraq. They need our help and in the state we have put them in now, we can desert them. Also, you would think after losing miserably every year and being humiliated, and knowing realistically that there is no way he could ever win would make him stop running. We'll see in four years I suppose.
Mr.Political 10/30/2004
Ah, Ralph Nader! What is there to be said about ol' Ralphy boy?! Well, only one thing can come to mind: PATHETIC!!
greendaykid7 09/29/2004
Nader is the best candidate to run for our country for many years. Our government is so corrupt now, and we need someone to take a stand and see to it that no more presidents can do what hte past presidents have done. I fully support Nader and hope he gets 5% of the populus vote this election so he can have a full campaign with campaign money from our government. if he does get this he will be the best thing to happen to us since roosevelt.

If I can recall correctly, didn't Nader propose a federal income cap at $75,000 a year? This coming from a millionaire is a bit rich.

i can not trash ralph he has spent his life trying to right wrongs done to the people of this country but if he wants a change in the white house he needs to stay home because he can not win

What a moron. He decides NOT to run with the Green Party this time arounnd but then gets mad when they don't give him endorsments...He's an egotistical nimrod that only cares about stirring things up. Not the fact that he doesn't have a prayer in hell to win the White House so all he's doing is sitting there stealing votes from Kerry...
breaker581 07/30/2004
It's too bad that most of the brainwashed and fear-ridden of our society will be voting for one of the two mainstream puppets instead of someone who passionately wants to improve our nation like Nader.
libertree 07/28/2004
I'm sick of people like Ralph Nader, George Bush, Al Gore, John Kerry. etc. Telling us how to run our lives. What ever happened to the constitution limiting what our government can do. These polititions completely disregard our individual liberty for the benefit of society. Not only is that immoral and cantrary to our constitution, it doesn't work. So these fools are going to continue to argue about how best to control our lives and if people dont wise up it will keep getting worse. Eventually we will lose all of our liberty. Wise up people!
callitdownthel ine75 07/15/2004
Love him or hate him, Ralph Nader is a man who believes in what he says and does everything to follow through. I don't usually agree with this guy, but no one can doubt the passion he brings to politics. For his honesty and courageousness, Nader is definitely one of the best.
RandomXs 07/15/2004
Simply by posting on this board one has to have an ego to believe one has something worthwhile to say. I don't see any egoless shrinking violets here and I daresay that anyone who has the courage to run for president has an overabundance of ego and confidence. Ralph is no exception, nor should he be. In the case of the 2000 election, let me ask you Einsteins . . . without Nader, do you truly believe that 90,000 disenfranchised, felon-labeled voters, a poorly designed ballot using defective chads, clueless election judges who refused to give replacement ballots to those who made mistakes and discovered they had punched Buchanan's chad, and a Sec'y of State who simultaneously ran a candidate's state campaign-- all these made NO difference at all? It was all Ralph? I don't buy it. I think you guys were, and are still, mad at yourselves for having been suckered and looked for an actual person you could attack as a tar-baby. There stood the no-nonsense Nader exuding a character admittedly deficient in charm and used-car-salesmanship. Target acquired, commence firing. And Bruce dear, it's amazing that you criticize him for the very two subjects that Dems always excoriate him for- his past problems with his own labor force and his remarks about choice issues being gonadal politics. You guys can't have it both ways, you know. In his latest book, out just this week, I think he's basically answering your challenge with, American people, SAVE YOURSELVES.

Ralph Nader's claim to fame is his reputation for going against the establishment. He's a consumer advocate who first appeared on the scene with the publication of his book Unsafe At Any Speed in 1965 which claimed that American car companies, particularly GM, produced defective cars. His efforts here led to mandatory seat belts in all cars. Besides consumer advocacy, Nader is involved in the environmentalist movement and is known as a perennial thorn on the side of corporate America. He has run for President three times; in 1996, 2000, and 2004. Nader has stood against centralized corporate power and for campaign finance reform, universal health care, legalization of marijuana, and cheaper housing. He believes that the tax burden should be less focused on small business owners and the middle class; instead big corporations and producers should pay more. Yes, some loopholes need to be closed, but an excessive tax burden will also mean that they won't be as productive and won't hire as much. Nader should consider a more balanced approach here. He is correct also to oppose some of Bush's environmental programs that actually make it profitable to pollute. On foreign policy, he is only candidate out criticizing our approach to the world. The neo-liberal and neo-conservatives both operate from the assumption that America is the unchallenged power of the world, the truth is not that simple. The balance is going to shift if we don't switch strategies; Europe and China are two powers that can combine to challenge us politically and economically if we don't play our cards right. He is the only candidate out there challenging Bush and the neo-conservatives on Iraq and our strategy in the Middle East. Nader is correct to assert that our explicit support of Israel over the Arabs is one of the root causes of our terrorism problem. Another problem is our overdependence on imported petroleum. Like on foreign policy, both Bush and Kerry don't have a strategy for dealing with this key problem dominating external relations. We need to focus in on developing alternate sources of fuel; domestic drilling is not enough. Nader is right to assert that a good start would be strict efficiency standards on our cars. By the looks of Nader's platform, many will say that he's an idealist, that he will never be able to overcome those self-interested special interests that block his agenda. I don't agree with all of his platform, but we do need to start moving in this direction if we expect to move to greater heights as a nation. He's a little too liberal for me on some things, and I find his anti-globalization views to be somewhat simplistic, but he's the only candidate running this year with the courage to go against the establishment which has lost it's connection with the people and the rest of the world. Nader is needed as a viable third party alternative out there because Bush and Kerry really aren't addressing the issues that the people need to hear about.

Vicious, egotistical, somewhat bigoted, and quite possibly nuts. Like a less principled, more boring version of Pat Buchanan.

I think that Nader was useful as a consumer advocate back in the old days, but he is now our of his league. He would seem to have an inflated sense of his own importance or relevance to society. If he were rating himself as a consumer product and was honest about it, he should rate himself as either defective or as in need of major redesign.
Moosekarloff 03/08/2004
How can anyone take this guy seriously? He hasn't done anything especially noteworthy since Unsafe At any Speed, and that was way back in the 1960s, except hand Idiot Bush the Oval Office via his ill-advised 2000 Presidential run. Old and in the way dinosaur who's stayed about a quarter of a century too long at the fair, who offers no fresh ideas, vision, perspective, etc. although he disingenuously presents himself as doing so. Despite all the damage he inflicted on the country in his spoiler antics of 2000, this cowturd has the continued temerity to announce another Presidential attempt in 2004, like as if anyone really cares. This is just a matter of some clown of mediocre ability and notable name recognition letting his oversized ego get in the way, getting his jollies by seeing his name in the newspaper, basking in the glow of our mentally retarded mainstream media, stroking himself at the good fortune of being able to extend his fifteen minutes of suspect fame at our expense. However, as appalling as this empty suit is, what is truly alarming and perilous is the fact that anyone would actually vote for this guy: I saw a poll cited on television this past weekend indicating that Nader enjoys the support of 6% of the voters, which suggests that at least 6 million America adults out there have crap for brains.
shelbyhendren 02/22/2004
Ralph Nader should go back to working for the environment, trying to repair the damage that George W. Bush caused. This is Ralph Nader's legacy now, the man who propelled the worse person for the environment into office.

Buffoon! I think he should move to China. He would be alot happier. If he must stay here he should go back to rating cars. Another lawyer in a bad suit (no pun intended).

I like Ralph Nadar as a person, and as an advocate for causes (although I don't always agree with him), but as a politician he is simply a "spoiler". Suits me fine, because usually the folks I vote for are helped by it, but one wonders why he runs when he knows he has no chance.
