I liked him, even after Lamont beat him in the primary. Then he endorsed McCain. Even the Connecticut for Lieberman party thinks he's a fraud now.

All democrats are not going to be liberals. They have different wings of the party. Lieberman is def more of the moderate democrat. I give him respect for defending his beliefs even if everyone in his party may not always agree. That shows that he is not a follower, and will stand his ground. It has also made him a lil more popular. To sum it up, he is basically what McCain is to the Republicans. In the wing of the party that often disagrees with their own. I think it kind of balances out the party, weather you agree with them or not.
frenchiefastwa ves 08/05/2008
He's as much of a democrat as Michael Moore is a republican.

nice to see a politician that has the strength of his convictions.

The Democrats have one person in their party who has any class, and this is the guy. The lone individual who is not bought and paid for by MoveOn.org, he is the only voice of reason within a party whacko's. The Dem's tried to run him out because he didn't bend over and take it up the backside from the parties new masters, but his voters saw through the bullsh_t and knew a good thing when they saw one. Kudo's to Mr. Lieberman and those who fight to be heard.

To the voters of Connecticut: YOU OWE THE REST OF US AN APOLOGY! WTF were you THINKING when you put this grudge-carrying bitch of a man back into the Senate???
I do enjoy the corner Joe's painted himself into. He implies that if Dems don't pay him homage, he's going to drop the drag outfit and reveal himself as the true GOP asskisser that he is...but then again, he can't do it because then he'll cash in the only marker he's got against the Dems, and then they'll shred his ass led by Velociraptor-in-Chief Nancy Pelosi.
Donovan, one term for his voice might be "whiney." Perfect for a guy who does that when he doesn't get his way.
Donovan 02/18/2007
UPDATE: As of late, my opinion of him as a leader has improved a little. ORIGINAL MESSAGE: I hate to say this but here goes anyway; Mr. Lieberman's voice is very irritating and I can't seem to get past it. He is I'm sure, a fair Senator. He just needs to have someone else talk for him. OK, I said what you were thinking, now About how Al Gore, you know Mr. personality, he treated the Senator very poorly. He killed any hope of Senator Lieberman becoming President. Gore is a poor leader in my book, but that's another chapter.
GenghisTheHun 02/16/2007
Too puffed up with his own perceived self-importance now. It's too bad as he had potential. He is too tied up in the Iraq and Middle East things to wield much influence in other areas.

Sen. Lieberman remains a person who is not afraid to speak his mine. America voted for Joe Lieberman as Vice President.Disagree with him on Iraq.

I've hypothesized for some time now that the country as a whole is continuing its move to the Right; however, the Left is getting even more Left. In support of this position, I offer Joseph Lieberman, clearly a relatively moderate Democrat who recently suffered a political scare due to his moderation. Nevertheless, I also hold the belief that Lieberman remains well respected by the more sane leadership of both major parties, and deservedly so, as he has always conducted himself ethically, diplomatically, and in good faith. No, I don't agree with a good number his positions, but I do think he understands that people can reasonably differ even when faced with the same facts (i.e. he is generally intellectually honest). Joseph Isadore "Joe" Lieberman was born February 24, 1942 in Stamford, Connecticut.

Helped cost Gore (a terrible candidate) the presidency and now has to face the increasing consequences of following a joke of a foreign policy- hey Joe, the ass-kissing days are over. . .

Lieberman was defeated because he's essentially a opportunistic Republican in Democratic clothing (which is why the neo-cons always hold him up as the example that all Democrats should emulate). Part of the problem with the Democratic party for decades has been their attempt to market themselves as "Republican-lite" as opposed to presenting a strong, viable alternative to the Republicans. Maybe Lieberman's defeat is a very belated wake-up call to the party. Then again, maybe they'll just continue to snooze on...ZZZZZ...
callitdownthel ine75 08/10/2006
It is a shame that the Democratic Party has shunned those within their ranks just because they choose to stand for what they believe- as opposed to towing the regular party-line. Joseph Lieberman, only six years removed from being a respected Vice-Presidential candidate, has been maligned, distorted, cast-aside, and finally defeated in the primaries by his party- a party he has stood proudly for and with through thick and thin. In any case, Lieberman has been a consistent Democrat throughout his entire public life, voting the same issues considered 'liberal'. Yet, Lieberman's sin, according to most Connecticut Democrats was his support of the Iraq War. They forget that Lieberman was a leading voice for most issues they hold dear to their hearts, and instead voted to oust this good man because he supported a single cause he truly believed in. What does this actually say about those in the Democratic Party who supposedly hold exclusive rights to open-mindedness and inclusion in our society (as opposed to the supposedly-exclusive Republican establishment)? It seems hypocritical, doesn't it? But it seems that in the Democratic Party, you are either for them- or against them. And woe to those who do not prescribe to THEIR brand of open-mindedness and inclusion.

The Robert Duvall of the political world. Really, really great at what he does, but as the lead, he just doesn't fly.
jakemr33 11/01/2004
I used to like this man because he was a moral Democrat. However, I lost a lot of respect for Lieberman when during the Clinton administration he was criticizing Clinton for what he did, yet voted to keep him in office. To me, that is not sticking to your morals, he revealed his true colors. He showed he cares more about power than ethics.
ClassicTVFan47 11/01/2004
If I had to choose a Democrat, it would certainly be this one. He believes that the liberation of Iraq and Afghanistan were correct. Also, he's strongly for cleaning up both the television and video game industries.
jgls 09/23/2004
boring. when he stated that his campaign had joementum after finish fourth, i almost peed myself laughing. he is a decent senator and probably a nice guy, but too dull and stiff to be president. he makes john kerry look like rick james.

Lieberman really should be a declared conservative. I don't know what he's waiting for.
Opie Onion 05/18/2004
Would you just join the Republican party and stop making us Democrats suffer with your insufferable thinking!
DiamondDavid 05/10/2004
If he were the Democrat Party's nominee, I would really mull over my vote this November. I respect Lieberman's religious faith and his morals. He's one of the few people in his party whose faith is a hallmark of his character. I'm disappointed he abandoned his positions on school choice and social security privatization upon accepting Al Gore's request to be his running-mate. One must wonder if Lieberman has any regrets, what with Gore endorsing Dean in the primaries, and not even phoning Lieberman to notify him of said endorsement.
abichara 03/20/2004
Senator Lieberman is an honest and decent person. What makes him different than most politicians is that he doesn't seem to have airs about himself. I don't agree with him on many issues, particularly concerning foreign policy, but he always speaks his mind with clarity. I wouldn't vote for him because I disagree with him however.
LadyShark4534 11/22/2003
I was not going to comment until I read some of the racist comments against Jews. First of all, You people saying that prejudiced drivel, You are the reason for all the terrible things happening in the world today! And as for the abortion, Jeez! Stop shoving your religion down every non-Christian's throat, Noah! I don't have to read your bible, Got it? Noah, You are exactly the type of person who would vote against abortion even to save the life of the mother. And I hate how you keep shoving your Christian views into other people's faces. You make me sick, Noah.
kingbaby 11/18/2003
And that's about it - O.K. While it would have been a step forward to have a jew as vice president, this man lacks the luster.
Moosekarloff 08/20/2003
Talks out of both sides of his mouth. Inconsistent in his positions. Too much emphasis on religion in his life, which is suspect in a public figure in a secular country. Condemned Bubba Clinton for fooling around with The Portly Pepperpot, but voted to grant full pension benefits to that Admiral Kelso a-wipe who was in charge at the Tailhook Convention where all those women were sexually abused by those drunken pinhead flyboys. Extremely constipated rhetorical delivery. The Democratic Party should work out some deal with this guy to get him out of the picture during the 2004 Campaign, because he's far from the best candidate they have to offer and his mere presence in the mix is going to dilute and confuse matters.
StanUzbeck 07/28/2003
Why is this guy even a democrat? Not that I support the democrats, but his policies and ideals are strictly hawkish, right-wing, and antisocialist. And why would anyone want to elect a president who's first loyalty is to Israel, not the United States. I hope he dies in a fire.
forgotten hero 07/12/2003
I was getting really tired of him using his religion to promote the Gore/Lieberman campaign back in 2000. Everyone just loved the idea that a jewish man could be vice-president. I have nothing against jews but after a while it seemed like his beliefs were used as a cheap stunt to gain popularity.
BIGBABY 07/01/2003
He talks like he has a stick stuck down his throat. I used to like this man better, I don't believe a word he says now. I can no longer trust that hideous face.

Not bad.....for a democrat that is.....
wetsack 06/12/2003
Joe is only out there for himself and makes sure that everyone knows about it. First he went from a Republican to a Democrat so that he might get elected as vice president with Gore. Then he ran for senator when he found out how much of a loser Gore was.
dlocal 06/03/2003
Don't know much about him just yet. Can't be any worse than the current buffoon we have in office now. Or could he?
DrFeelgood03 05/22/2003
Ha ha ha, he is a stupid little democrat.

I like this of the Democrats out there. He come off as thoughtful and not smug.
Saltydog 05/02/2003
I like Senator Lieberman. He seems to be a man of strong ethics, and is not afraid to challenge members of his own party. He is an important figure in this nation.
Redoedo 04/26/2003
I guess Americans now have a problem with someone developing their own beliefs and following those beliefs. Joe Lieberman had the guts to vote against some of his own party's initiatives, but I guess that is a sin in today's narrow-minded society. He seems to be an honest and well-intentioned man. Liberals hate him so much because he thinks for himself. In the final analysis, I would probably never vote this guy into the Oval Office, but he seems to be an adequate politician of honesty and conviction.
GHWBushFDRReag an 04/24/2003
Despite the fact that I am a staunch Republican, I happen to have some measure of respect for Senator Lieberman. On several occasions, Lieberman has broke party lines and voted against certain bills sponsored by his Democratic Party. Finally, we see here a 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidate with some balls and conviction to vote for what he really believes in. Unfortunately, he is still a democrat, and as we all know, no one can trust a democrat not to vassilate from day to day on all critical issues and challenges facing our great nation. I mean, really, come on...look at the other 2004 Democratic candidates for President...Dennis Kucinich looks like a character out of "Operation Dumbo Drop." When are the Democrats going to wake up and start concentrating on the real issues. Good luck, Joe!

One of the few honest politicians left in the Democratic party. In a nutshell, he stands above the other candidates for one big reason-character.

LOTF1955 01/13/2003
This guy should really be a Republican. The last thing America needs is another pro-business, pro-religion ideologue like "Holy Joe." In my view, Lieberman is nothing more than a sanctimonious, self-righteous JERK. Additionally, electing an Orthodox Jew as President will destroy what little credibility the USA has remaining with the Arab/Muslim world and will virtually guarantee the indefinite continuance of terrorism against America from that quarter. If Lieberman gets the Democratic nomination, I will, for the first time in my life, vote for somebody besides the Democratic candidate, probably Ralph Nader.
