 | smoochesdarling (0) 09/11/2008 | Funnier than Letterman, but that's not saying much. Enough with the "how fat and lazy are Americans" jokes. Enough with about half the things he goes on and on about practically every night. Stick a fork in him, he's done. He's a terrible talk show host, he's so busy telling stories about himself, the guests can hardly get a word in.

 | FranksWildYears (57) 08/01/2008 | UPDATE: I secretly suspect he's made of cloned meat mass.
He's an empty suit, he brings nothing fresh to the form and is a pale imitator of his opposite number (Letterman) and half the man that the up and comers like Stewart, Ferguson and O'Brien are. My mom and dad watch him because he's inoffensive, but when he's gone nobody will remember his era as anything but reliably produced advertising fodder.

 | FJohnson (0) 10/06/2007 | Something similar happened to me when I was working at a dining establishment in LA back in the late 90's. I guess Jay was ordering the waiters around like a dictator and causing alot of tension in the restaurant. I think one of the cooks may have given his food a little something that was not on the menu that night. People may like him on TV but he's totally different in person .

 | Shanni (0) 06/06/2007 | Like Stick, I find Jay Leno hilarious. I love the little side bits he does (interviews with Gilbert what's his name, the Bush imitator, etc.) And the headlines and wedding announcements are great. Some people say he doesn't take risks. Mostly the comedians I've seen taking risks are just risking being bleeped. They think vulgarity, racism, sexism and filthy language is "risk-taking" pfffft ...and the first casualty is humor.

 | caligula (2) 12/22/2006 | If you are wearing adult diapers or find Carrottop to be sophisticated humor, this is the guy for you. He insults the intelligence of anyone under the age of 75 who has a pulse. Corny and crummy humor and without a doubt the worst interviewer in the history of late night talk programs. He is hyper, interrupts and generally has a terrible rapport with most guests. That's the quality that made Carson so great. At least Letterman will rip on people. Jay tries to rip on people, but it is done in a corny hyper manner. Just terrible- the White Castle humburger of late night comedians.

 | SamTheMan (3) 11/07/2005 | Leno and Letterman is a tie for me. It depends what mood I'm in. I like the way Leno interviews guest better but he doesn't usually reveal anything interesting.
His monologue is based on machine gun jokes. And it builds since if you didn't like one, the next one will be here in the next 5 seconds. However, that delivery reeks of a rim shot for each and every one. I think he actually has too many inside jokes from when the staff is presenting the jokes to him before the shows. And that is why he appears to be laughing at his own jokes. I think many of those jokes are much filthier in the backroom before they go to the monologue. After all these guys are writers (of jokes) before they are comedians. Look at Carson. He completely hung it all up but still couldn't resist writing jokes. The only thing that was missing is someone to hear them. And to hear them, someone had to tell them. As we now know Letterman was that vehicle for him during the end.

Now he laughs more at his own jokes than his audience does. He seems to be obsessed with jokes about pedophiles [like that,s a humorus subject?]. In the last couple of years he seems to have got the impression that he is attractive to the opposite sex,as he hits on every young starlet that comes on the show [He makes an Ass of himself!]
Where does he come off making fun of the size of Barry Bonds and Senator Kerry,s heads. Pot callin the kettle black. HELLO! Get a mirror!

From what I've seen lately, he relies more on cliched material; I think he's gotten too comfortable to work hard on his craft. | noskcaj (0) 11/21/2004 | Not funny. The guy is still telling OJ jokes. That would be fine if it was every six months of so when OJ comes up in the news but one pops up every other week. It's been over 10 years. Get some new writers. Notice no one in the media has called Jay a nice guy in a couple of years. They use to say nice guy jay leno in every story. Not no more cause he's not a nice guy. This is a man that calls boy bands fags every night and then has them on his show and says great job guys thanks a lot. Next night he calls them a bunch of gays again. Hey I don't like them either but I did not beg them to do my show and say great job. Two faced. I don't like Dick Cheney either but the bad heart jokes get overdone so much they are sick. One bad heart joke funny, two ok, three you need some more writers, by five in a row it is too much. Jay is also mean to young actors. He is always saying how much high regard he had for people a generation before him but in interviews he acts like these people under 30 don't have a right to be in the business. Flat out tells them their project sucks. And could someone tell Robin Williams to shut the hell up. There will be some nobody actor or some on that isn't even famous and this is the highlight of their life. He tries to see how much time he can steal from their 5 minutes. Jay should tell him to STFU. You aren't funny either Robin. Stop interrupting the guest.
Jay's way too long monologue has the same thing night after night year after year:
1. OJ's a killer (1994-present)
2. Robert blake is a killer 2001-present
3. Cheney has a bad heart (2000-present)
4. Monica lewinsky is fat 1998-present
5. Michael Jackson likes kids 1993-now
6. Michael Douglas is really really really old. Yeah 7 years older than you dick.
oh and
7. nsync is gay. 1998? Thanks for coming on guys.
8. winona ryder steals. haha

 | bob_smith1100 (0) 10/04/2004 | Jay Leno stinks so bad my dead grandmother can smell him. The way he tell jokes is so incredibly bad. And he is supposed to be a comedian! His show has nothing original about it whatsoever. All of little things like jaywalking stuff have been done by late night shows before. His monologe is long and boring. He tells jokes exactly the same way every time. Night after night after night. Just listen, the next time you watch, when he gives the punch line, he keeps talking when the crowd laughs. He says some stupid little thing like yeah how 'bout that? or can ya believe that one? It drives me crazy! He does it evertime they laugh just listen.

 | grazianoperrelli (0) 04/30/2004 | I cannot understand why this man is on tv. And we get it, Jay Leno owns a lot of cars. It's really simple, just read the very good reviews of Jay Leno on this site and check out their grammar versus the people who can't stand him. The latter are far more educated. For the people that love jay Leno latter refers to the last subject expressed in a previous sentence. Still not following me? You must love him then. For people with a brain, it's painful, he's more pretentious than anyone I've ever known, and has NO TALENT. He's smug, and his humor is sometimes offensive even, and not because it's just so bad, but that it's totally inappropriate. TV altogether is death. Conan O'Brian is the only talk show worth watching, as Letterman also has gotten so bad, and jaded as well. Carson Daly is just an idiot, and Greg Kilbourne thinks he's God. This country needs some serious ass kicking. Man, if only artists, and real writers controlled the airwaves.

 | Franklinn (0) 03/27/2004 | Reading other people's poor opinions of what Leno has turned into is like a breath of fresh air ... I was beginning to think I was the only person in the universe who has been absolutely dumbfounded at how bad the Tonight Show is in 2004. There is not enough room to go into the reasons Leno is terrible ... he has spent so many years dumbing down his act that I think he has truly forgotten what funny is. The kicker is, Leno used to be funny as heck when he was Carson's substitute host. But now it's painful and embarrassing to watch him... the repeated, spoon fed punchlines ... Leno has apparently forgotten what Carson never did, and that is not everyone watching at home is as dumb as the studio audience. Carson's comedy was good on two levels... he could deliver the corny punchlines while subtly still staying connected to the viewer whose IQ is higher than 3. With Leno, there is only one level. There is no ironic detachment ... there is just nothing there. And the sad thing is, there used to be. Leno used to be a great comedian. What he's turned into is nothing short of sad. I can only wonder what Carson must think of what Leno has done to the show he dedicated his life to.

 | mdubknowsall (0) 03/23/2004 | I for one, really miss Johnny Carson. I remember I was about 8 years old when Johnny went off the air. I used to enjoy the Tonight Show, every now and again my Mom would let me stay up to watch it, or tape it for me. It was always a treat when I got to watch Johnny. When he retired, I was mad. I thought to myself Why? Why is the guy from the Dorito's commercials taking Johnny's place?!. There was a time when the Tonight Show was THE show. Careers were made on that show. If you did good on The Tonight Show, you were made! Now? The Tonight Show is a joke. Jay is just a cowardly little puppet. Bland jokes, tepid deliveries, and the way he comments on his jokes after they're finished just SCREAMS please like me! As many others have stated, his punchlines are stale and can be seen coming from miles away. At least Johnny had the good sense to not overstay his welcome. He went out on top. I wish the same could be said for Leno, but he STILL kept on going after that first week. Geez.

 | PhranqQ (0) 11/24/2003 | Okay, I am admittedly a fan of both Jay and Conan. But there is a big reason that i think people tend to overlook.
Jay take more of a political stance on things. He'll break down the government or figures and such and make it amusing.
Conan on the other hand is more of a off the wall goof. Both can be funny and both can make you wonder what they are on and why a segment was ever considered for public airing.
its all about taste. some people like the goof view of things and other like a more settle or meaningful view. either way, both are the best of Late Night.

 | markinithaca (0) 10/09/2003 | Can I please give Jay Leno negative five stars just to lower his ranking? Sweet lord, he is the worst.
Every so often, when I'm feeling masochistic or when a guest I really like is appearing, I tune in to the Tonight Show and see what the sychophantic giggle-meister is up to. Mostly, what he's up to is sucking. Even Dubya could learn a thing or two about sucking from Jay Leno.
When I watch Leno in an "interview" I imagine what certain celebrities who have to withstand his lame barbs and fake-friendly pats on the arm are thinking. "Make it stop" comes to mind. Just watch the expressions of barely contained annoyance on a non-ass-kissing guest's face as Jay refuses to let go of some stupid jokey premise. It'll probably happen on tonight's show. It's happened on every show I've ever watched).
When Letterman was out sick earlier this year, I watched a number of the shows hosted by "friends of the show." A lot of the shows were awkward, but at least the temporary hosts (like Luke Wilson and Bonnie Hunt) were able to acknowledge that they were awkward and underqualified. I wonder if Leno, deep down in his gut, ever wishes to be put out of his misery.
The thing that bothers me most is that a truly talented and funny person could actually make something great out of the time slot. It's a shame.
So that's why I think Jay Leno sucks.
Wow. I feel a whole lot better now.
