One of the first, and one of the most influential. He revolutionized DJ-ing, and put out some decent songs while he was at it.
"It's like a jungle out there... it makes me wonder how I keep from going under..."

Apart from PE, one of the few worthwhile and interesting rap acts. 'The message' and 'White lines' are all time classics.

DON'T PUSH ME: CUZ I'M CLOSE TO THE EDGE, I'M TRY-ING NOT TO LOSE MY HEAD! True old school, I was in the seventh grade back in '82-'83 when this was dropped, it was groundbreaking and we had not heard anything like this at that time. Flash is like the bridge between the old pioneers of rap and those who put the game on the map, like RUN-DMC (who would drop their first that next year). I mean the music conveyed the true hopelessness that one sometimes feels in the ghetto. The Message's video is still one of the best of all time!

This man is to hip-hop what Henry Ford was to the automobile, he may not have invented hip-hop but he sure did make it great. I heard The Message when I was in grade 6/7 and have loved hip- hop since. Grandmaster flash is still my favorite DJ.

That man made rap. I wish other rappers would get his message and try to be more positive. I like old school stuff better.

I'm not incredibly knowledgable about Rap/Hip-Hop music, but I know that many of today's musicians point to Grandmaster Flash as one of the pioneers in the genre. I actually met him a couple of years ago and he was a real nice guy. It was pretty funny, however, when he was introduced as Flash. I had never met anyone named Flash before...
