He was the first sexy rapper the gurlies could get into. Definitely not a hardcore gangsta rapper, but he's good at what he does.

He is one of the most underrated rappers of all time. Peolpe think that he is soft because he has made love songs but if you listen to old material from "Bigger and Deffer" and "Radio" he is a great lyricist. A good example is "The Ripper Striks Back". The greatest line in the song is when he says "...when you step into the house of the lord and get blessed, get on your knees bow down to my degrees young slacker...".

One of the few rappers who lived cleanly and with self respect. That is why he is still in the public eye and well liked now. Dont care about the rap bit...not my cup of tea but hes alright.

Ladies Love Cool James a.k.a James Todd Smith. Really good and consistent over the years. His arrogance was something to get used to. He and Kool Moe Dee had feud over some of LL's lyrical content.

ROCK THE BELLS!!! Whoever says Uncle L has no strong material, was simply not present in the game twenty years ago, why don't you youngsters create something new? I'll admit the last album of his I bought or will buy was Mama Said Knock You Out (circa 1990), but everybody has a prime and Uncle L's (in the rap game is over -- for now?). I think he is primarily an actor now...

Cool J's street cred. was done a long time ago, yet he still manages to toss in an edgier track on every album. I would be glad to CoolJ 5 stars if it wern't for those brutal(some of the worst I ever heard) love songs that he puts on all his albums. I worry my friends might come over just as another tune is ending and they might think I listen to that garbage.

Somewhere along the lines of Bad and Average is where he falls. He's just not that good, and he has no star quality, and is never given any strong material. He's never had any real hits.

I knew I was hooked when I Need Love came out. He has been keepin' it hot ever since. His music is in good taste, he's always positive, and for u haters: he can't help it that he looks good! Being "hard" does not have to entail guns, glorification of gangs, or degradation of women! I bet his body is "harder" than most other thug rappers, because he takes care of himself. I loved him in deep blue sea.

Great rapper, must be respected for his resiliance in the rap game. However, I question his title as the greatest of all time.

I love LL! I was in high school when he released his first album. I have been listening to him every since. Plus, he is a pretty good actor (w/ a nice ass).

I've always liked LL. I remember when "Radio" came out it had a totally different sound. At the time, RUN-DMC was already starting to get into fusing rock and rap, combining electric guitars with their rhymes, and it looked like the whole industry was going that way. Then LL came out with Radio, and it was back to basics. Just beats and rhymes... The MTV unplugged version of "Mama Said Knock You Out" was great as well..

He's gotten boring over the years but his old stuff is fantastic!

I LIKED HIM BEFORE HE STARTED TO TRY TO BE ALL HARD CORE. DIDN'T ANYONE EVER TEACH HIM NOBODY LIKES A BRAGGER? HE THINKS WAY TO MUCH OF HIMSELF. HE WAS TIGHT WHEN "DOIN' IT" WAS OUT, EVEN BACK IN THE DAYS WITH "I NEED LOVE", BUT HE KILLED IT ON HIS NEW CD WIT THAT SONG THAT WAS MADE FROM THE FUBU COMMERCIAL, "HELLO, HELLO?"

Basically to sum it up: He sucks and I think he just needs to quit rapping and pursue acting because his lyrics are expired.
