When you look at some of the artists that came out the same time as R Kelly in the early 90's (Jodeci, TLC, Kriss Kross, Shai, Boyz 2 Men) where are they now? None of them could achieve what one single man has achieved all on his own as a solo artist. This man is still going strong. Some of his songs are club classics "Vibe","Bump N Grind", "Body Calling", "Sex Me" even that crappy commercial one "I Believe I can Fly". Thank goodness hes come back with "Happy People" and the "In the Closet" series are just hilarious not to mention original, whose actually done a song describing a drama that you can't dance to? I don't care for R Kelly's private life as thats his business, but as an artist as one reviewer has already stated this man is a genius and shows no signs of slowing down.

First of all, this man is a musical genius, a true pioneer in his era. If we'd all be honest, 98% of us have all made babies to his music (or at least tried to), have made up because of his music, have got on the floor and stepped in the name of love to his music, or gotten over a hard time with the help of his music. Now his own personal demons outside of the studio are just that, but inside that booth, the man is the truth! And he may not have the voice of Donnie Hathaway, stevie wonder, or even Carl Thomas, but he can carry a tune enough to make the world listen!

As far as his talent goes, he's pretty good although I've never enjoyed his music. He's a writer, producer and good singer and musician but much of his early stuff especially has been too sexual. Bump and Grind...Half on a Baby? I remember being in high school when those 2 songs were singles. All of the girls had crushes on him. He was a grown man that was married to a 15 year old girl (Aaliyah, she denied it later). He would do the freakiest things on stage knowing his market was mostly young teenage girls. Then he became popular (crossed over) with other audiences with songs like I Believe I can fly and the song he wrote for Michael Jackson (another perv) You Are Not Alone. He was very much sought after. But I have never liked this guy. He's sick.

As an artist, R. kelly is quite talented. My faves include "if i could turn back the hands of time" and "i wish". i think he sings well, but has had some less than par material. As for his legal issues: i sure hate it, but i'm rating the artist not the man. His inexcusable conduct doesn't change the fact that he had skills and a couple of bad-A jams.
