I'm not a hiphop fan, but if you want rap, you can do alot worse than listening to this duo's positive messages.

BTW, their name comes from a Willie Dixon song (performed by Little Walter) called, DEAD PRESIDENTS...

How can you hate Dead Prez. I mean, radical socialist gangsta rappers. Doesn't get better than that.
Lexia 03/27/2005
These brothers are superconscious! You gotta love them. I hope they find YHWH however, then they would be even more dope. This is the type of music our kids need to hear. They aren't anti-white, they are anti-oppression. The only escape is through the Most High!!! Get this cd people. It is time to wake up!(Spiritually)

From South Africa...Dead Prez are the best! Only if you've known the treachery of the white man will u be able to relate to this. Keep it REAL!!

i agree it's a good album. i'm not really into hip hop but it was interesting to listen to. in my opinion it's pretty racist and anti american. but, like everyone else, they have a right to their opinion. i'm not blind to what's going on in american politics and society but these guys are pretty extreme and i think they blow alot of things out of proportion and playing the "race" and " i'm a victim" card. oh well... to each his own.
JSharpeAgency 12/30/2002
This is one of the best albums of our times. Look out for their next album coming out on Columbia in 2003!

M-1 and stic.man are without a doubt the most inspiring and thought-provoking artists since Pac's death. There is nothing more refreshing than there work. The common sense they rap about is something that anyone who feels lost in a capitalistic society can relate to. Sometimes it feels like they are preaching straight from what I see in my daily life. As a young white guy, it hurts me however that their cause for revolution needs to be sheltered to black people. I think they eliminate much of their revolution's potential for success by becoming extremely afro-centric. African culture is beautiful, and I fully understand their hatred towards the white man. Its unfortunate that they apparently do not interact with people of other races who feel passionately about the same subjects. I'd go against a tank with a shank for my dreams, and that is my fuggin word, too bad I'm white, does that mean I can't? Not every white person is George Bush, or some other beureaucratic drone. Many passionate white socialists have the same dreams as those that DP expresses so perfectly. Every aware person in western society knows it is time for change, DP should be able to embrace us all, one help one, son teach son. I can give thanks to DP for helping me to open my eyes, I just wish that I could contribute to their cause without feeling like the enemy. One love.

This is one of the best albums I have heard since 2pacalypse now. THe only difference is that these guys are even more knowledgable than Pac was at there age. Their lyrics are correct when they say, "it's bigger than hip-hop." This is a must listen to, even if your not into hip-hop/rap. I use the ideas they present in my college classes. and I really shock the students/professors. However, no one can argue it. There push for socialism, and there attacks of the mass media, are CW Mills and MAlcolm X combined. Buy it you will not be dissapointed.
powertatp 11/10/2002
this duo is incredible. heartfelt, real lyrics over crunked basslines. really getting their message out to the community, even youths. check out my site; www.deadprez.net for more information/music of theirs. peace.

ok, i don't care if you're white or black or whatever. this album may seem a bit extreme, but it does deal w/the way our society is set up. these guys bring nothing but pure music. i mean, they feel what they say and they believe in it and stuff. buy this simply because u don't get to hear real music anymore. i mean, i'm neither white nor black, but the social inequalities are dealt w/in this album. please email me on where i can get merchandise on these guys cause i can't find any resources!

HELLO, I RECENTLY WENT TO THE OKPLAYER CONCERT, I WAS VERY PROUD TO SEE TWO YOUNG MEN FINALLY TALKING ABOUT THINGS THAT "REAL" LIKE THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD HEALTH ESPECIALLY FOR BLACKS. TO BE HONEST I HADN'T REALLY HEARD OF DEAD PREZ TO LONG BEFORE I WENT TO THE CONCERT. I'M HOOKED NOW. I A SINGLE MOTHER WITH THREE CHILDREN, IT'S HARD BUT I LOVE BEING A MOTHER. WHENEVER I GET A DISCOURAGED I LIKE TO LISTEN TO THE HAPPY SONG IS WHAT I CALL IT. I FORGET THE NAME OF IT BUT I KNOW IT'S REAL UPLIFTING. THAT'S WHAT I CALL MEDICINE FOR THE MIND. STAY WELL!!!!!

Best Album I have heard for a while! Great Beats and lyrics which are rich in meaning. Dead Prez fills it tracks with worthwhile lyrics, rich in content, and filled with meaning and messages. Not the usual pimps, hoes, and money found ever so often. Check it out, you wont be disappointed!!!
Trice 04/24/2001
I'm happy to hear some music that deals with some of the most critical issues affecting our people. Their music is not too serious to enjoy, but serious enough that you can learn about history and current events while getting your jig on! I have my friend Amma to thank for putting me on to the more of the album, besides Mind Sex...It was a pleasure to meet them at Lincoln University and see that they are as real and down to earth as they seemed...MUCH LOVE... As a BLACK MAN on the planet, it is refreshing to see young BLACK MEN acting and thinking, like real BLACK MEN. "Lets get free" is not just a CD filled with poetic rhymes, which are intertwined with phat beats. "Lets get free" is a musical blue print for all BLACK PEOPLE. It is time we rid ourselves from white influences! Yes this means we must extinguish the idiotic notion of god! God and religion was a fairytale that people with power created in order to sedate the masses (poor class). We must understand and accept that religion, and the concept of god is a form of sedation. It prevents the revolutionary side in us from developing. We must stop picking cotton (Tommy Hilfiger, Raulph Lauren, Calvin Klein, etc...) and start picking up books that will enlighten the mind. After the mental state is changed, the next phase of revolution will begin. I'm not only feeling DP's music, I AM DP! If you are a BLACK PERSON without this CD, then you know what you have to do. "Let's get free", Truthfully one of the most inspiring and talented albums I've heard this year. An educational album, bringing forth topics that which most musicans and groups wouldn't even touch upon, songs about the school system, propaganda, and a healty diet. from the cover art to the messages and lyrics, this album is wonderful, I think this is one album which everyone should atleast hear, if not own. peace out, - X BurnedFlag X

This has gotta be the tightest Rap album in years. The beats are superb, overall production it tight, lyrics speak for itself. It has everything. It's political, it's cultural, it sufggests a more positive lifestyle for those who refuse to live or listen to just 'bling, bling', cyistal, and making cheese. For those who opined against it, you are free to comment, but, reality of it is...obviously you are a part of the problem if not contributing to the solution. Its a certain way of thinking outside the conventional staus quo, Amerikkkan values, christian moral, way of thinking. It's hope for the hopeless. Plus the image they portray, and the messages they speak on need to be heard, cuz you wont hear it in the news, you wont learn about it in the government controlled school 'sh*#stem', and the topics they speak on are usually information that is kept from the common folk by the true rulers of this country (not the President, fyi)...the Council of Foreign Relations a.k.a. the iluuminati (Look it up if you dont know) because the info theyre hiding is the info that sets us free. Wake up, people. All shades of color. Beacause the reality of it is, they're plotting their next move against the people of this Kountry, black or white, rich or poor. Heed the word. If it wasnt for Dead Prez, the information wouldnt get out to the people. Justice!
BlackX 03/22/2001
DP spoke about how the black family must build its strength - black woman + black man + black child - white religion - dependency on white establishments = bright black future. This is the only way to preserve the foundations that the Black Panther Movement and the Civil Rights Movement initiated. The statement posed about returning to Africa? That's fine, Africa is a beatiful rich culture to raise my offspring. But we as a black nation have built the wealth and resources of the United States of America. We have fought in your wars, and for 400 hundred years have plowed your fields. My ancestor's blood and sweat has produced the wealth that you as a white race are enjoying and benefiting from. The wealth of this country belongs to the black nation. DP also never failed to emphasize consistently, the need for that strong black female force. By leaving this force out, it leaves our nation blind, paralyzed and incapable of functioning - as we see existing presently. Regarding religion, DP (a.k.a directly on point), saw it fit to mention the observance of religion (esp. the white man's religion) as one of the factors contributing to the lack of our progression. To leave religion out and by realizing that the strength lies within us and not in this God, is when we can build our ourselves - it is when we are truly independent of these white capitalist factors. Factors that have prevented the development of our black nation.

Let's Get Free is the absolute greatest hip-hop cd in the world.I have never heard lyrics as real as this. The beats and everything are the sh@t.The way you guys speak about school and the government and life in general is so real and true. And then to add the song Happiness showed there are still positive things in life.M1 Stic.man I can't wait until your new CD comes out. And i wish you would come to the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School in Piqua, Ohio to visit us. Good Luck

I can not lie Dead Prez is a very talented duo. However I find the lyrical content to be filled with lies, conspiricys they think to be true, and a false and ingnorent way of thinking. They blame all problems with the african community on the white man. All I have to say is that if you dont feel free remember your an african you can always go back.
keekee 01/06/2001
i love dead prez alot we need more conscious music to weak up are young black youth and to let them know what the real deal is in america that surrounds there daily life. this is so real stuff y"all so weak and do"nt be blind by the system always stay real and faith in allah to what you may call him my peace be unto you always and forever.

Nubyah 12/05/2000
DP is in fact, a strong voice of social awareness. The album is EXTREMELY HOT! It made me you think about the society around me and encouraged me to study a lot of what is displayed in the album/cd. The wordplay is not only phenominal, it is also coherent. They are real in their message. I read what someone had written on how it goes against the bible, and how in concert they sent a dedication to all the black women, the mothers of this earth, which these comments offended them. However these are thought provoking comments: a lot of people are unaware about inconsistancies in the bible, and all religious writings for that matter. Furthurmore, black people are the first people. History proves it and there is no reason to be offended by it, they were expressing their choice of preference. All persons may not agree with the lyrics on the album. One for instance I don't agree with is that "Man made God out of ignorance and fear, if God made man then whey the hell would he put us here" I do believe God made man, but this is their belief, again a thought provoking comment. I understand where they were coming from when they said it. I'll continue to listen to it everyday!!!!! You should too. Peace.....Nubyah

this is the truest eye opening awareness hip-hop i've ever heard. lyrics and amazing music
roKOn 11/27/2000
This album is an amazing piece of work that is unlike most of the crap that can be heard on the radio and seen on mtv. It actually has a relevant message unlike most stuff that i hear. It pisses me off that there are not more youths no matter what race, standing up for who they are strongly. Some of the content on this album is racially biased towards black panther-ist ideology but at least Dead Prez have something wothwhile to talk about. I hope that others follow.
Andres 11/21/2000
Conscious music wakes us up - keeps us movin' teachin' and sharin' - mucho gracias for spittin' the lyrics y'all do. Our youth need this kind of thinking person's music. Capitalism takes the spirit out of art - ya'll and others like you put the spirit back!!!! I am a teacher of high school students - all my students will be aware of Dead Prez!!! Right on! Che and Fred would be proud - so am I. Keep up the work! Que Viva La Revolucion!

Yo, dead prez was here in Milwaukee not too long ago, with the Roots for the Okayplayer tour. Right before doing "Mind Sex", which is one of my favorite tracks by them, M-1 says: "This goes out too all of the beautiful Black women out there, you are the first mothers." So, I look at my man, and my friends, all of whom are Black, and they shrug at me, and start dancing. But, I'm sorry, that bothered me, and I remembered it after the show... See, I'm American Indian, and am sick of not having a political forum, a musical forum, no way except casinos to express my heritage. And dammit, I am the mother of this land, one of many ( Black, Latina, Asian, etc.). I respect dead prez's views, and even agree with most of them, but that statement hurt me. Minorities need to stick together in order to become the majority and start a REVOLUTION. Anyway, after the show, I see M-1 sitting outside of the venue by himself ( a bunch of white college kids must not have recognized him), and I went right up to him and told him how upset I was. He smiled, took my hand, and said " Peace Sister, I respect your forwardness. I'll look out for that in the future." I had told him basically what I wrote above. And I hope the man thinks about what I said. There is no way to start a revolution without people. And he almost lost a damn good one in me. Peace y'all. The album, the message, the lyricism is hot. Get this.

It is the bomb,no one has made a better hip-hop Afro-centric album yet,Dead Prez is amazing, love the music...I have one question are they Nuwabians?.....send the answer if you can....

what we would do without true poetics under the society in which we reside? The regime to which they imply covers a broad spectrum that in turn reaches out to people of all nations. I believe, listen to Dead Prez daily to stay healthy, and their long suppressed notions(which in turn is the harsh truth peoples tend to ignore if they feel a certain level of satisfaction) will truly free your mind and expose you to what this sh**thole nation think it stands for, they taught us to be corporate, now is the time to be civic. peace my babies

Easily one of the best albums of the year. They deal with the harsh reality in this country that everyone needs to be aware of, which is social injustice. If you are looking to open your mind a bit, then Dead Prez is definitely the way to go. Peace.
Maniel 09/22/2000
Yo DP's got some excellent material, they're one of my favorite groups out there. They got every thing a hip hop group should have, phat beats and very good lyrics. Lyrics that make you think too. lyrics that are'nt just a bunch of incoherent semi-literate babble. Its something you can listen to more than once and not become board with it.
