He makes some good points in his bits. His voice gets really annoying after awhile.

Chris Rock's 'Bigger and Blacker' is probably one of the funniest stand-up releases ever. I seriously would check it out. It's reallly wrong all over the place but it's funny as can be. "l've been watching the Jerry Lewis Telethon...Where the f$%k is the money going? What, to keep Jerry's hair black?"
Spike65 08/23/2008
I think Chris Rock is brilliant and funny. However, his strident voice and the foul language keep me from buying his DVDs. His observations of life are spot-on though.

Talented, and occasionally he makes me laugh, but he's no Richard Pryor. There are too many white bigots who love him because of his "honesty" (in other words, he talks about blacks and minorities in the same way they do, or at least he used to) for me to wax rhapsodic over his act. And, while I'll concede that he has made me laugh, he hasn't made me laugh all that often. And his manic persona, striding about the stage and shrieking as if he's wired on speed, gets on the nerves after awhile. I've read that he's become sensitive about the fact that white bigots seem to love him, and has altered his act significantly. Maybe in time he'll become a comic I can become enthusiastic about (as I am when it comes to comics of true genius such as Pryor, Bill Hicks, Greg Giraldo, and a few others), as I do think he has innate talent and may eventually develop it to such an extent that he will become truly great (I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over my lukewarm endorsement). Then again, he might go the other way and recede into insignificance. Time will tell, I guess.

Dirty language is not necessary to be funny
angryjed 12/24/2007
has not progressed much from his angry black man gimmick, but hey funny is funny.
wabio 10/15/2007
Bring the Pain was an all-time classic.
FranksWildYear s 05/24/2007
One of the last guys around who is plying the old provocative/shock humour routine that was the standard style in the early 90's, but he occassionally hits the mark with observational social commentary. If a comic has to shout when delivering a punch line it always seems to me like he is trying to force the laughs out of people.
lebo 02/04/2007
Definitely the funniest comedian I have ever seen- and I have seen them all. Chris pokes fun at all aspects of life in a way that one would never think of. He has the guts to rip through undertones and covert behaviours in a way that no one else can. That in itself is funny, but he goes beyond that and gets analytical. His analyses of different situations are always on the money and a more importantly -hilarious. All those who cannot tolerate his racial humour are very uptight and are probably closet racists. There is nothing racist about Chris's humour. He is for me the greatest comic ever. his 4 HBO specials all in top 10 comedy concerts
gamerman 02/24/2006
Funny and honest, one of my fav comedians. He's not afraid to talk about issues between m/f and race. He is great.
stand-up lover 01/15/2006
always great. love him on stage or on the screen!!!!!!!!!!!
Empress Scorpio 01/08/2006
Chris Rock , in my book, is great because not only is he funny but he takes the time to cover a range of topics. And in his case, he doesn't solely rely on a boatload of profanity and basic jokes that have no thought behind them. He seems to say what most people are thinking yet doesn't base his opinion on popular beliefs. I like that he makes comments that aren't for the sole purpose or getting a rise out of people....they truly make sense. He lacks cheap tricks and that makes him awesome.
amberlady72 11/10/2005
it isn't racial humor if the person saying it is black... I think it's ok for him to say it... 'never scared' awesome!
holcombe.jorda n 10/06/2005
"'cause racial humor is automatically funny." not impressed
numbah16tdhaha 09/21/2005
I find myself nodding and laughing when I hear him. The ATM bit was on the money. I think they should have somebody there to talk you out whatever you are withdrawing 300 dollars for in the middle of the night.
Randyman 05/07/2005
His particular brand of humor does absolutely nothing for me. I just don't find him funny.
perfectsona 04/13/2005
he's awesome. the way he says his jokes is enough to make you laugh. great expressions, great comic timing, great delivery. graet comic
southparker9 04/11/2005
Very funny in observational humor.
Mooselover 03/17/2005
In his whole comedian carrear, he has managed to never made me make a single chuckle out of me.
sabastian 02/27/2005
chris rock was terrible at oscars tonight . He sucks dont have him back . His comments on the president were exactly typical of him and all his hollywood friends . never will watch it again
Skizero 02/15/2005
very funny social critic on both sides of the coin. white people will call Rock a racist b/c he doesn't hold back in criticizing aspects of white racism. it should be said that Chris Rock also doesnt hold back when exposing/criticizing/commenting on Black Hipocracy as well. he loses a point w/me b/c while Chris Rock is a critic of demeaning/vulgar rap, he still put rappers of that element on his show.
ChrisO1981 01/12/2005
I've seen him live and my sides hurt. All you people who push this racism thing are morons... learn to laugh at yourself and stop taking stuff so personally. They are JOKES... stop being tight-asses
sfalconer 12/14/2004
Not really that funny and most of his movies suck. Was ok on SNL but never really stood out. Best thing he did was Leathal Weapon 4 (sp) and he had a lot of help.
uneek 11/27/2004
The most annoying voice in all of television, probably. Oh and get a new joke other than the bash whitey.
kierchehof 08/31/2004
His voice is annoying, I agree, but I find him extremely funny and witty. He says all those stuff about racism that are implied but no one else has enough guts to say.
Melody143 08/18/2004
He's pretty funny. Has an icredibly annoying voice though. I don't think he's a racist. He just talks about life and people's differences in a very humorous way. If u get offended by what he says then I think you are extremely uptight and need a chill pill.
Bird808 08/12/2004
Rude, obnoxious, unsanitary, ghastly, arrogant the list just goes on and on. I'm sorry, but Chris Rock's humour is far too juvenile for me. Ask him to tell a really funny joke and somewhere along the line hes going to insult a public figure and rather than being funny the majority of the time it ends up offensive. Give me Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Richard Pryor, Sinbad or even better Chris Tucker anyday as their funny as hell and I've never heard them insult as many public figures during their careers to the same sad heights as Chris Rock. Most people I know find him funny, unfortunately I'm in the minority for this one, as I simply do not.
Rater04 06/29/2004
great great
marcm9999 06/18/2004
Funny---for a racist. If white comedians did what he does we would not hear the end of it.
faceman 06/16/2004
Unlike a couple of people on here, I do not think he is a racist, as they say. We need quit throwing that word around to easily. Anyway, while I do not care for the vulgarities, and the profanity, he does say things that make you sit there and think about it, and yet be funny.
desi_brat02 05/12/2004
hes funny and has alot of good jokes
coleslough 05/05/2004
he should not have to rely on sex humor as mush as he does
oceanspray 04/30/2004
Great energy and we miss him for havent seen him much lately
e-bone2 04/29/2004
Four years ago I'd have given him a 5. I just watched his latest on HBO. He's about as funny as a 60 minutes segement. Nothing but racist anger and the standard black comic Richard Pryor rehash. Chris Rock is dead, long live Dave Chappelle!
KVV 04/07/2004
He is so annoying. That voice is like nails on a chalkboard, and he is a racist
jgls 12/22/2003
much funnier and hipper than eddie murphy
mai_shz 11/19/2003
I love Chris ROCK he is the funniest man ever....always gives u a good time........ps does any1 have the quote for wat he saed on bowling for columbine abt gun control that was hilarious
jeff wright 08/27/2003
Mr. Rock's "bullet control" routine is absolutely hilarious - especially as it is presented in contrast to the wacko gun nuts of the Michigan Militia in Michael Moore's latest work of art "Bowling for Columbine". All you ultra-paranoid right wingers fanatics need to lighten up. Not only is the routine hilarious we SHOULD have bullet control as a means of counteracting the evils of the NRA -an organization that would spend millions to keep weapons of mass destruction (not the kind Bush claims Iraq has but they useless semi-automatic weapons that serve no purpose. Contrary to what the gun lobby believes there aren't UN troops hiding in railroad cars waiting to break down your door and confiscate your guns.
StanUzbeck 08/24/2003
Not funny in my opinion. I can see why other people find him funny, as a lot of people are jibbering morons. And to pre-emptively answer any criticism, I don't find him threatening or offensive or controversial. In this day and age, what he does is actually playing it safe. It's playing it safe because he's not risking arrest and censure (like Lenny Bruce was), and he is almost guaranteed to get a laugh with his raunchy material. I suppose we have only religious white people to thank for idiots like this. If they wouldn't overreact to things that are only trivially offensive, sh!ts like this wouldn't have a career.
ChrisRockisntf unny 08/11/2003
Hey he is not funny at all.
kolby1973 08/03/2003
He is a total racist who doesn't deserve my respect. Anyone that wants to pull us back does not need to be in celebrity status. It is a travesty and quite pathetic.
Hardwire 08/03/2003
The Richard Pryor of our generation, every movie I've seen him in is bad, with the possible exception of Dogma. Everything he says is usually funny, but he thinks white people are the scum of the earth. He's another angry racist black comedian, they all are. He's just the funniest.
Moosekarloff 05/30/2003
Crude, rude, vulgar in-your-face comic who hits the target more often than most. He's of the anger-as-humor school, a practitioner of the "if it causes pain, it's funny" approach. His humor is not for the squeamish, in fact, he's downright threatening to most people, especially Whitey. However, he is an equal opportunity disdainer in that he cracks on black folks an awful lot, too. callmetootie once again displays idiocy: freedom of speech allows us to say whatever we want about anyone else, as long as we don't commit fraud or slander in doing so. Also, famous people have always been the target of comic insults, a long standing tradition of performance, so what Rock does in this regard is not out of the ordinary. Hia amped-up way of doing it is just a sign of our overheated times.
kamylienne 05/09/2003
I can't stand this guy's voice, but I gotta say he's pretty funny. Abrasive, yes, but funny. I love his take on men and pornography--men do go all out like MacGyver trying to hide their stash, but inevitably where do women find it . . . "in the VCR". Yeah, he could probably tone down on the racial slurs, but other than that, I like a lot of his routines.
Mr. Gone 03/12/2003
Sometimes funny but his incredibly simple minded, self rightous social commentary really drags his act down. In fact, Rock sometimes comes across as so ignorant that I wonder what the hell he is doing with himself when he's not making crappy movies or working on his lousy imitations of people.
Redoedo 03/07/2003
This guy has really progressed since the SNL years. His 1999 HBO comedy special, "Bigger and Blacker" was pretty good, but not great. I wish he would focus more on positivity, but I do respect him for voicing his opinions in a strong and sensible way.
AlphaThetaGamm a 02/15/2003
I think Chris Rock is a riot. I enjoy his racist views and as a "cracker" do not feel offended by any of it.
marleyboy183 01/25/2003
i dn, why not, he is good
CanadaSucks 08/25/2002
What's with all the Rock haters? This guy crosses racial lines and takes equal shots at everyone. Lots of people can't handle that. I think he's the funniest comedian I've seen since Carlin.
