Five stars for his early work. He did a special in San Francisco recently that was on one of the cable channels and it was incredibly un-funny. Needs to do more live stand-up to make sure his material is good.

Now he is one of the funniest ever on SNL. I loved it when he did President Bush!

I will always remember the brocolli song!

Not funny. Very good with impersonations.
ernesta 07/18/2004
The funniest. Highly underrated. He needs to be spotlighted more.

This guy makes me laugh every single time I see him. I agree with the comments on his HBO special. It crackes me up no matter how often it has been on. A true comic genius.

Dana Carvey has to be one of the funniest people alive right now. I have been watching this HBO special for years and it's funnier every time I see it. I want nothing more than for this special to be released on DVD.

Dana Carvey is just an ordinary guy with God-given, extraordinary talent. He's easily one of funniest people on the planet and one the best cast members SNL has ever had (or ever will have). And his stand-up routine was priceless, too. His O.J. trial re-enactment had me on the floor...they need to release that special on DVD. His impressions/stage presence are just incredible. Thank you, Dana, for being around in our lifetimes.

Oh My Goodness. I know if Dana Carvey is going to show up somewhere I'll be laughing. I've never seen someone that can so accurately imitate another real person. Eddie Murphy can play various characters just as well but not real actual people too good. That other guy on SNL Darrell Hammond is pretty good at imitating but Dana takes it home. When he was on SNL, he was the reason I watched the show. I loved him as the various presidents, Ross Perot (funny!), the Church Lady and other characters. I saw his show on HBO about a month ago and he was doing impressions of his kids, and all this other stuff that had me laughing continuously. At the end he pulled out a guitar and played it so well I was smitten. He's very talented.

I'd hate to admit it but Dana Carvey is a very talented man. He has a seemingly endless supply of impressions that he draws off of.

TOO DUMB FOR ME

Except for Master Of Disguise (a small stumble, all the greats had those) this man is simply a comedy powerhouse. Brilliant impressions, sharp wit and..... well...... he was freakin' GARTH.
kittenuplate 06/26/2002
Dana is definitely one of the greatest SNLers of all time, and a brilliant character actor. Watch him as Garth or the Church Lady - he literally becomes them.

dana carvey is pretty good in straight comedy, but like all SNL'ers cant participate in any movie worth dogsh*t. SNL has proven this time and time again. worst movies ever come from SNL. no question.
CastleBee 08/09/2001
Dana Carvey definitely rates as one of the better comedians to emerge from SNL after the original cast completely departed. His political stuff is some of the best I have ever seen particularly George Bush ("wouldn't be prudent at this juncture") and Ross Perot ("you know it, I know it, George Bush knows it"). I laughed until I cried when I saw the skit where George Bush was leaving the White House and he was giving Clinton a guided tour. Church Lady is so funny and comes so close to reality sometimes it's even slightly scary. Actually, just about anything this guy does he does really well - even just straight standup. In light of all the televised kah-kah out there, why in the world doesn't he have his own show?

If anyone has seen any of Dana Carvey's performances you would agree with me when I say he has the stage presence of a Southern Baptist Preacher. He can take you low and then suddenly bring you back up with one of his outstanding impressions. He also gives you a huge bang for your buck incorperating different music into his performance, ranging from the piano to guitar. If you catch his act, you too will come to idolize Dana as I have.
callmetootie 04/07/2001
Extremly funny, funny, funny guy. Church Lady is the most imaginative chracter thought up in history. I see myself on the floor, crying because he is so funny.
Robbou812 03/06/2001
Have idolized him since I was in junior high. I am glad he recovered from his heart surgery and hope he does something real soon. One of the funniest men on the planet.

Dana Carvey is funny, smart and has a range of voices. This guy was Garth, I mean come on! He is great. I've never seen anyone impersonate George Bush like Dana.
Tenchoy 12/13/2000
I like him because he is so versatile. The characters he plays, Bill Clinton, Church Lady, Johnny Carson, etc. are quite entertaining. His portrayal of real life characters are not impersonations, but cartoonish impersonations, and that is what makes him really funny.
Ramin_5 12/13/2000
Dana Carvey became a star because of his funny and entertaining characters that he played on SNL. He is still funny because of his standup.
Munson 08/11/2000
His comedy special on Comedy Central is one of the funniest shows ever. His ability to match the mannerisms and the rhythm in peoples' voices makes his impressions so good. In reality, he doesn't sound like Regis or Katherine Hepburn, but he is able to sell it.
benw9054om 07/27/2000
He is the funniest person alive, and most likely the funniest ever. His special on HBO was excellent and and with others successes like waynes world he has proved his comic genious.
Ruby 02/27/2000
Some people get funnier with time, and others age poorly. I was watching a rerun of a stand-up routine on Comedy Central last night and it was boring as can be...
