I see a lot of people focusing on her sexuality, I find that odd as she does not seem to focus on it herself. Granted, I don't normally watch her show, for all I know she could scream 'Lesbian' at the start of every show. As for her stand-up, I find her to be really funny. She starts out picking on every day mundane and then gradually becomes more ridiculous. Also, she is a very physical comedian, offers a lot of slapstick that you typically see in male comics. It works for her, I'm glad that she is still working and making people laugh.

I find NOTHING funny about rug munching.... UNLESS I'm doing it.
McGowan 02/13/2009
If she wasn't gay,she wouldn't be anywhere near as hyped and promoted as she is,because she is one of the most monotonous comics I've ever seen. Her voice, her delivery,it stays almost constantly in a monotone, like the dial tone. Very little inflection,or differentiation, and ajittery, stop-start flow that grates immediately .No straight comic could get away with being that boring,or get the media attention/propaganda/hype. He/She might get a talk show, but it wouldn't last long, wouldn't last past the first season. But,thanks to PC,gays can have it both ways.
OrangeCharlie 12/05/2008
I never get tired of Ellen. She is a riot!
Spike65 12/05/2008
Moderately funny before coming out. Just pleasantly boring nowadays.
CanadaSucks 01/23/2008
Intelligent. Talent with the language. . .but I tire of her delivery, her fans, and her opponents who emphasize everything (almost everything) except her actual talent. . .
louiethe20th 01/23/2008
As much as I dislike her agenda and alot of what she stands for, she is very funny.
cyqing 11/10/2007
Not that funny.
irishgit 05/03/2007
I find her boring. I also couldn't care less about her sexuality.
disgust4PCness 05/03/2007
I won't speak for her humor on her TV show...never watched it...I actually have things going on in my life during the hours that her TV show airs. HOWEVER, I will say that during her prime Stand Up days (I'm thinking late 80's and early to mid 90's)...she was extremely funny...picking apart nuances of everyday life (in a very Seinfeld-esque way...although I don't think she needs to be compared to JS)...and she (then) rarely brought politics into her act...even though you knew where she was coming from...and that is a credit to her talent.
bassman44113 05/03/2007
I really enjoy her stand up a lot. She always makes me smile. She seems like a "real" person .... someone I could be friends with.
crsnyc 10/03/2006
She's REAL, She's KIND, She's GOOFY, She's True to her Knack, She KNOWS who she is...to HISTORY... SHE'S IN THE TOP 5 OF THE FUNNIEST WOMAN ON TELEVISION...
Krinda 08/29/2006
What I love about her most is that she can laugh at herself. She's constantly coming up with instantaneous tidbits of humor when interviewing/speaking with guests, and when she mucks it up, she's the FIRST to laugh about it. Her stand-up routines are the VERY best!

Would it kill this bitch to wear a dress or a skirt?
beachgirl 01/09/2006
She's my favorite female comedian thus far. I LMFAO watching her last live stand-up DVD. It was great
holcombe.jorda n 10/06/2005
shes great, power to the lesbian comedians. id do her.
twansalem 03/31/2005
more annoying than funny
Mooselover 03/17/2005
Amusing at times, but few time boring.
sol 03/17/2005
Proof, yet again that white girls can't dance. The audience eats it up because ushers are holding guns to their heads. It's quite frightening to watch.
makaylasmommy_ 03 03/10/2005
She is extremely funny in many ways!!! I love her acts and her show. She sometimes has me in a laughing fit with the things she says and does!!! And I love that her humor can sometimes be so simple but she makes it hilarious!!! I hope she stays around for a long time.
Maomania 02/27/2005
My favorite stand up comedian of all times period. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw Taste this and all her other shows are funny too. The funny thing is, that I have the same humor, so it is very easy to understand her jokes and to identify with her.
HotChick4Chick s 10/25/2004
Nice person, decent talk show host. But NOT funny as a stand up. Her self deprecating humor wears thin real fast. She must have something on the ball - she DID boff Ann Heche!
jtolleson1 09/13/2004
Laugh out loud funny. Great timing, great faces. A funny, funny woman in the style of old-school standup. Her snippets of truth about the funny way people are ranks right up there with Jerry Seinfeld, but she's a better physical comedian.
WellKnown 06/10/2004
Wow. Some people here have nerves. No one chooses to be a lesbian or gay, just like no one chooses to be straight. I mean why would someone choose to be a lesbian? Her earlier show got cancelled because she came out. She lost ratings and everything. Do you have any idea how many homophobics there are out there? Don't you think she knew that at the time she came out? When you're known as a gay person, people's opinion of you changes. People even get killed because they're openly gay, and those who come out about their sexuality want to live without lies; they want it known. Being gay isn't chosen, you can't choose who you're attracted to. She's helping others to come in terms with who and what they are by what she does. And as far as her mentioning her sexuality, if you don't like it, don't watch it; no one's forcing you. She's not gonna be someone she's not just to MAKE YOU HAPPY. She's a person too. She's great at what she does, and her talk show is great too. She's just an amazing person, and her presence is overwhelming. She's bold, outrageous and funny!
oceanspray 04/30/2004
Love the new daytime show and she needs to keep sparkling with her looks/personality and it is bound to work.
e-bone2 04/29/2004
I think she's one of the funniest female stand ups ever. Also, we both like to lick the vert smile. Check out Moosekarloff's review, it's funny in a KKK kind of way.
mabel Heywood 04/07/2004
I think she has a great show and I cant see where she is always referring to her sexuallality and I think the content is quite acceptable compared to some of the night shows Ive seen, love her dance act. Her sexual preferences should have nothing to do with her show. although its not my cup of tea I will keep watching her show. Keep up the good work Ellen. M. Heywood, Whitby, Ont.
Redoedo 03/27/2004
A great comedic talent, but often focuses too much on her sexuality. She makes me laugh more often than not.
btvs2887 03/18/2004
There is only one word that describes Ellen DeGeneres and that one word is, FUNNY!
buckey 01/30/2004
Ellen is a refreshing comedienne. Her humor is silly and actually quite innocent. Contrary to many of the posts below, she rarely discusses her sexuality... much less than any number of heterosexual comedians and comediennes. Perhaps those posters complaining below haven't actually SEEN her act or her knew show? Or perhaps they haven't seen other comedians who constantly talk about sex, with various profanities interspersed. By comparison, Ellen has one of the most wholesome acts out there! Anyhow, her new show is great... I love her intro monologues (and dancing!). Very refreshing to have a spontaneous new talk show host like her!
Invisible 01/18/2004
Well first she was overdoing the jokes about sexuality but now I watch her more and she's hysterical! You'll see what I mean when you watch her HBO specials, and her second HBO special-only 1 homosexual joke, only one! And I watch her talk show every now and then and I never ONCE heard her say a joke about sexuality, NOT ONCE! She acctually pretends to be straight I would think.
jgls 12/22/2003
horrible
Asauka 11/27/2003
I love Ellen's humor! She's so clean! Any comedian can just flood you with cursing to get laughs, but Ellen's got such a great sense of humor! You rock Ellen!
ih8becker 11/16/2003
Ellen Degeneres is the funniest person. I'm extremely glad that she has her own talk show now. She has good, clean humor.
StanUzbeck 08/05/2003
I feel really bad about what happened to Ellen. She is an incredibly funny woman who had to take the fall for her political and sexual views. If it hadn't been for her, crap like Will and Grace would never have gotten on the air. Will and Grace merely coasted through the door that Ellen nearly destroyed herself opening, and I hope that she gets another chance. At the very least, she should be remembered for one of the true pioneers of comedy.
Moosekarloff 05/30/2003
What's so funny about being unable to sexually relate to the other gender? That's kinda sad, isn't it? Why make a joke about emotional and social dysfunctionality? Because it's painful? It certainly isn't a universal theme since only around 4% of adults are gay. Hence, it's a very small, narrow and insignificant aspect of human experience, and, thus, really not worth mentioning. Who cares, except other homos? Furthermore, I never thought she was funny before they made a big deal in the media about her being queer. This is another one of those whose pathetic need to be relevant translates into becoming a walking, talking, breathing cliche. And a totally unfunny one at that.
Haligonian 01/20/2003
Ugly dyke...maybe she could have been funny if she were a hot lesbian
AryanDan 08/31/2002
Ellen is a very funny woman with a unique sense of humor. She doesn't seem to be a bitter, anti-man lesbian, like many others. I thought both of her sitcoms were enjoyable and non-threatening. Ellen would make a great aunt. We need to be tolerant when tolerance is deserved.
Jaws 02/27/2002
I don't see how coming out of the closet takes courage in this day (unless she was trying to keep her parents happy). Anyone coming out of the closet gets instant praise from the media world and most other places. They make you out to be a God (only in their sick perverted world). I guess she used to be funny (kind of) and now she's just plain sick! I quit watching Ellen DeGenerATE before all this happened. I couldn't stand to look at her.
Cynical Sam 02/20/2002
Only marginally funny to begin with, and took herself way too seriously when she came out of the closet. She's become so obsessed with her sexuality now that she lost what little edge she had.
#1FiennesGirl 02/02/2002
All lesbians are very confused, Ellen is obviously one of them. Ellen, being a comedian, is just not her thing, her humor is cheap.
Snoopy 08/23/2001
I've never found her funny and I'm tired of constantly hearing about her sexuality. I have the same concern about her love life as I would any other stranger: I don't care.
Charlie77 07/09/2001
All she talks about is her being a lesbean. Uh, she is thumbs down with me. Her name ought to be called Elen Degerant.
Frank15 05/23/2001
Oh boy... I get to be called a bigot! Whoopee! Well, as far as her personal life goes, if she wants to be a lesbian, that's her choice. I really don't care whether she is or isn't. Unfortunately, she seems more concerned with her sexuality than most everyone I know. She used to be a naturally funny person--then about 1997, she comes out as a lesbian. She used that for some of her humor... then she started using it for ALL of her humor. There was nothing she said that didn't have to do with her being a lesbian. While I commend her for not hiding the fact, she doesn't need to mention it every sentence that comes out of her mouth! We know already! You've said it a billion times! Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't yet know you're a lesbian? Saying it one more time will just annoy one more person who is sick of hearing about it. Just like anything gets old after a while, so does your lesbian humor. Change the subject! Talk about other things! Give us some of your pre-1997 humor! We want more of that and less... MUCH less of your post-1997 humor! If you want to be a lesbian, that's OK--just don't use it as your sole gag.
phantomraven 05/23/2001
Okay, where to start with you people - Ellen DeGeneres is nothing but a success story - a funny, intelligent woman with more courage in her little finger that any of you have in your entire body. Her success is not all tied to her coming out in 1997 - Prior to that - She was voted Showtime's Funniest Woman in America, received the American Comedy Award for Funniest Female stand-up, won the People's Choice Award for Best New Series in 94, etc....the list goes on. Her show was a top 10 hit during it's 2nd and 3rd Season (long before the coming out) and many critics consider her performance hosting the Emmy's in 94 to be one of the best of All-time. She hosted The Grammys twice, the VH-1 Honors Program in 94 and Ellen and her show were nominated for numerous Emmy Awards, People's Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards not to mention, her show receive the prestigious Peabody Award in 1997. Oh, did I mention, her book "My Point, and I Do Have One was #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List and she was Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year in 97?....and... that is only a partial list. Most of what I mentioned in that list occured long before her now infamous coming out episode. Her coming out was not a calculated career move to garner attention - she already had that!!! Are you people blind? No - you are just bigots. There are countless stories of how her courage in stepping forward, coming out and doing nothing more than living her life in honesty, has had an enormously positive impact on the lives of many people. Including - teens, many of whom profess to have been debating suicide prior to Ellen's coming out. If she saved one life, she has done more than most entertainers ever will. Your tales of gay bashing help no-one - they only serve to show your bigotry and lack of compassion and human spirit. LOVE is never wrong. HATRED IS NOT A FAMILY VALUE.

I think that she had guts to come out of the closet. Everything that she says is humorous. I don't think there is a day in her life that she can't make people laugh.
emmez78 12/15/2000
I think she's hysterical. She makes comedy out of things you can actually relate to.
actjef1077 11/24/2000
I watched "Ellen" on occasion, and I was really proud of her for having the courage to come out of the closet. Unfortunately, she then decided to maker her whole routine about being gay. There's nothing wrong with a few jokes about that, but the subject gets old. Any subject would after so long.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 05/01/2000
C'mon how unfunny can one person be and still have their own TV show. She sucks! I don't think I've ever heard her say anything funny. And talk about using your sexuality as a tool to stay in the limelight.
ErictheFederal ist 12/22/1999
Ellen is the coolest girl in the world! She is the funniest too! :o)
