She's a smart lady, and I tend to agree with her political slant on things, but if we're judging the people here based on their "comedic" ability, I would have to concede that I'm hard put to remember a time when she made me laugh. In fairness to her, I haven't seen her in all that much-- a movie role or 2 (she seems a competent actor), and a regular part she had on cable-TV's "The Larry Sanders Show", which I thought was hysterically funny and marvelously subtle (if that's not a contradiction), but not because of anything she did on it. Some of the most brilliant comics-- Lenny Bruce, Carlin, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor-- would be considered "left-wing", perhaps even subversive (although to some wingnuts, anything to the left of Genghis Khan qualifies as subversive). But they manage to be laugh-out-loud funny at the same time that they make their "larger philosophical" points. The best of them...like Pryor...can inspire wicked laughter with a story that, taken strictly by itself, should cause tears to be shed. Hard to think of any "right-wing" comics that are of a similar stature...I mean, which of them are really worth a damn? Dennis Miller? Perhaps on occasion...he could be bright, and he could make me laugh...but he seems to have handed over his comic instincts along with his testicles to Bill O'Reilly. Who else? Larry the Cable Guy? Yakov Smirnoff? Sean Hannity?...(sorry, he's not supposed to be funny.) But, in reference to Garofalo, unless there's some hysterically funny part of her act that I haven't been able to see for some reason, I'm not going to be buying any comedy CD's of hers anytime soon. "Shrill" and "humorless" come to mind when I see her, not "funny".

She was funny at one time however her politics have consumed he act, and she is no longer an objective comic. Also she has given in to trying to be pretty, one thing she said she would never do. She is cute, but she caved in

One of the greatest stand-up comedians of our time, not to mention she is a wonderful actress. I also love her politics. I think it is very unfair to ask a celebrity to shut up when it comes to opinions. Why aren't they entitled to their opinions like everyone else?

Very funny with a sharp whit. I think she gets knocked for her politics. I can't say I like (moreover, I don't care) what her political concerns are. I do think she's funny. Please look at the review by Gups11 (three below mine). He refers to her as frow hitler. Someone tell this jackass not to refer to anyone in German until he know's how to spell. What a jackass.

The only time I ever laughed at her was when she was on the O'Reilly Factor. She was doing her green peace thing and Bill educated the little frow hitler. Why do people want to be like her. She is a political extremist and patheticly cynical. Obviously she didn't have fun in highschool. You should stick some coal up her @ss and it will be a diamond in a week.

I absolutely ADORE Janeane Garofalo. I love her sarcasm, her wit, her short cuteness (I wish I looked like that), her taste in music (we both like alternative)... along with other things. I just think she's extraordinarily funny.

Good old Janeane Garipealot. Talented sure. Funny yes - to an extent. But she kind of spoils it with the non-stop negativism. If your lot in life is soooo miserable, maybe it just means you need to get off your dead butt and do something about it. Continual whining can only be funny so long. Needs to learn a few new tunes.

Her pure angst is beyond funny. She is a foremother of the alterna-girl era. She fits hand in hand with what the Seattle sound and grunge movement was, but she had lasting power.

Now here's a celebrity I admire. I admire her for not selling out to the stereotypical "what a woman should look like/think/respect/act." There are so many Hollywood, blue-eyed, blond haired supermodel prototype clones that it's satisfying to have someone break that. And be funny too.

I feel like this is the olympics with the whole rating system, but... Janeane Garofolo makes me think as I laugh -- A great feat in the society of crotch and fart jokes. If only more people could make us socially aware while making us smile, this world might just have some meaning.

Janeane is smart and funny and very talented. I love to see her do standup, but I like to see her act, too. I think she makes a wonderful leading lady.
