As far as standup goes he used to be one of the best. As for being the host of the Tonight Show he has done very well at pleasing a large part of America. I don't watch the show much anymore as his sucking up to the Hollywood crowd gets old fast.

LOL I love his show too. I often have to flip back and forth between him and Letterman.
sunstorm1001 06/02/2007
He is OK, he has his moments, tends to pander too much to his guests. I would have given him another star but I am tired of the fat jokes, he doesn't have the best body in the world and his wife certainly isn't model thin, so, lay off the fat jokes (ie J Lo's butt etc).
I do fear for the Tonite show when Conan takes over, he is not good at all and will be a real lowering of the standards.

Better than Dave Letterman. Much better!!Letterman needs to get a life and it shows he has not. Leno rules the latenight Keep it up Leno

FUNNY! i watch him every night. good, natural personality. nothing fake. smart guy.
southparker9 04/19/2005
I think he's not funny at all. He has horrible timing and delivery. I have heard his jokes be funny when delivered by Armstrong & Getty here in Sacramento.

not funny

Hilarious, way better than Dave Letterman!

It's amazing how this character is in the Stand up Comedians section he is as bad as Bill Maher.......

Jay is funny and some of his bits are great. The simplicity of Jay Walking is great. Headlines are also very funny. He has kind of gotten a little jaded over the years and it seems that he is forcing things a little but at least he still does a monolog I don't think Dave does any more.

Funny but mean-spirited.

A great comedian

I LOVE JAY!

Jay Leno has always been a master at being a witty and perceptive social commentator, yet not being too confrontational. While this style does generally keep him from being edgy, it does explain his relatively mass appeal. Moreover, now that he has taken over Johnny Carson's chair, he has been forced to go even softer to maintain a diverse audience, both in demographics and tastes. This highwire act can often require more, not less comedic talents, and there is little dispute that Leno has succeeded thus far. Jay Leno was born on April 28, 1950 in New Rochelle, New York.

As a stand-up comedian he's got all the comic gifts of my barber. He just repeats the jokes as he's heard them.
a1mc 11/24/2003
Now days I prefer Jay over Letterman

First of all, I'll admit he's a complete Choad on The Tonight Show; rarely funny. That said, had Jay Leno never hosted The Tonight Show AND people knew him as just a stand-up comic there would be far better reviews of him (and I'd have given him 5 Stars) I saw him in 1986, when he was, according to Dave Letterman, the hardest working man in showbiz. He was a genius. It was two of the funniest hours I've ever heard in my life. Unfortunately, the daily grind of writing new milquetoast material, coupled with his discomfort with interviewing people has sapped him of his comedic powers. At one time, he was one of the funniest.
Hardwire 08/03/2003
His synical look at things is funny, he does a decent job on the show. He's just running out of material, let Conan take over man. Throw in the towel.
Moosekarloff 05/30/2003
Pathetic. But he gets paid big bucks for being remarkably unfunny night after night.

Living in the shadows of Parrar and Carson and never approaching their greatness.
robbo 04/08/2003
His entire existence is a force, and anyone who likes him is an idiot.
resisobilus 03/07/2003
Stale. Headlines keeps the show alive, and he has NOTHING to do with it (except for his unnecessary comments).

Jay Leeno's jokes are dull and they are kind of getting old
Priss168301 04/12/2002
Jay Leno is great. I love him!!!!!
CastleBee 01/17/2002
Jay Leno is mildly funny - but he's no Dave or Conan that's certain. He tries but he just does not have that madcap streak that defines late night television humor best. I would watch him if I couldn't sleep or if Letterman and O'Brien were on vacation and then only if I couldn't find a good movie on TCM.
hOtBaBie12701 12/08/2001
I love Jay Leno, as stated before. He is a wise, funny man who always has a funny joke coming. While watching his show, I LMAO. His monologues are great; as well as Headlines and Jay Walking. His guests are always excellent(although, when he doesn't have a good star, that part of the show is boring...but if it is, go to sleep after the monologue and special). Please tune into the show on NBC if u haven't already, it's much better than sleeping an extra hour, or tuning into CBS!
HoTbAbiE12601 12/06/2001
ONE WORD: FUNNY! HE IS HILARIOUS!!
pablo 12/17/2000
Jay Leno is a very funny guy. I like his humor because he reminds me of your uncle Joe that would crack jokes at the dinner table or in church. He has a great sense of what's going on in the world and news and can keep you laughing even if he doesn't say four letter words. He's great!
Bent 12/15/2000
I think he is ugly and he sucks. I think his show is overrated and I can't believe he's called a comedian.
dk2012 12/12/2000
I love Jay Leno's sarcasm. He tells jokes with big punch lines and turns the American society into a joke that is appropriate and also humorous. When I watch late night, I watch Jay Leno. He is an awesome speaker.
baker 11/24/2000
I like Jay Leno. He is creative and original. He is always changing his show, whether it be Jay walking or George W. Bush line of the day. I like a comedian who will change and make new bits, not just the same over and over.
justyouandme 10/25/2000
How could anyone not love this man! He is funny, intelligent, witty, friendly, and a nice person.
dwarfy87 10/15/2000
The best late night talk show!
wesk10089om 08/24/2000
Jay Lenno is good. I love "Jay Walking" and "Headlines." I wouldn't say Letterman is much better than him, like many of you have voted.
init9859om 08/18/2000
Mr. Leno NEEDS to shut up and let his guest speak ! He buts in on their every sentence, constantly trying to throw a wise crack in. Enuff already !!!! Shut your BIG motor mouth. Get some therapy, some duct tape, SOMETHING !!! Just shut up....
flai6201om 06/12/2000
THE ONLY FUNNY THING ABOUT LENO IS THE SHAPE OF HIS HEAD.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 05/01/2000
Not my first choice in Talk Show Hosts but alright. I mean I'm not laughing out loud but on occasion he says something funny that someone has written for him.
