Individually the actors on the tv show were not that funny--together using each other as foils, they clicked. 4 might even be too high for Jerry by himself!

His standup is better than his performance on the show--of course he was the straight man and that made a difference.

I thought as a stand-up he was clever and intelligent in the age when shock was all the rage. Sam Kinison and Andrew Dice Clay et al could stretch out the littlest bits of comedy into a whole show by screaming, swearing and being mean and belittling the weakest members of their audience. It was a low point in American culture and Jerry Seinfeld was at the forefront of making comedy funny again. He was rewarded by a long successful run on TV basically plying his stand-up point of view through his great ensembel cast.

I used to think Jerry Seinfeld was among the greatest comedians, but it wasn't until I saw Curb your Enthusiasm that I realized Larry David was the true genius behind Seinfeld (the show). His act is moderately entertaining at best. If you watch his documentary, "Comedian" you may also get the impression that he kind of an arrogant %&*@. However, I still maintain that the "Seinfeld" was the best sitcom of all times.

His show was certainly funny and groundbreaking, but his stand-up routine was typical, run of the mill smarmy New Yorker material.

As much as some of you think he is some comedic genius, this self absorbed twit can't make me laugh for anything. A master of nothing who I wish I could give a nothing to.

A completely over rated comic. He somehow created a myth about himself that others have bought into.

the modern master of observational humor. i've been a fan of Seinfeld's since i caught his HBO special back in 1988 and he hasn't failed me yet.

You nay-sayers are crazy. Seinfeld (the show and the man) is great. I wish the show was still on the air! But even re-runs that we've all seen a dozen times are still incredibly entertaining..... If you sit through an episode of Seinfeld and you don't laugh, check your pulse because you might be dead!

The stand-up acts I have seen on TV, have shown this man to be a cut above the rest. He doesn't rely of foul-mouthed potty jokes or ethnic jokes. The man is just funny. His stuff rings true for many and he doesn't have to act an ass to get the laughs. He's AOK with me.

I have never found anything he has said or done funny. As for his show well Kramer is hilarious,George is funny,and Elaine is a riot..But Jerry (nothing) not funny,not hilarious,not even worth a grin..

This guy is an AMAZING comedian he is a great comedian he is really funny. And his show was superb.

His cynical view on everything is both clever and interesting, he makes a lot of good points. Technically, he is also a very good comedian. He uses the rights tone of voice in every one of his jokes, sometimes makes faces and uses hand gestures. He always tells his jokes with a certain confidence that many lesser comedians lack.

Isn't this the guy who does all of that you ever wonder why stuff? Not that there's anything wrong with that... Jerry's great and he doesn't have to get filthy to make you laugh & in this day that's a big plus!

Seinfeld is another stand-up comedian who does not use profanity as a crutch (though not all use of profanity is using a crutch). While his observational humor is not for everyone, I find it witty and sometimes insightful. Comedy has historically been the area where new social taboos first make their appearance (for instance comedians stopped making drunk driving jokes well before society started getting serious about this) and where social taboos first show signs of fading. As to the latter, in other words it is often the comedians who are the first to say that the emperor has no clothes. This is evidenced in how often the storylines of Seinfeld challenged political correct thought and behavior. As to the television show, the original idea was to have Jerry do stand-up before and after each commercial break with the story illustrating how his everyday life inspired his act. The show is also significant in how much it added to the common lexicon (eg Soup Nazi and not that there's anything wrong with that). The stand-up and the action melded effectively which was very entertaining. As the show and the other characters grew in popularity, the stand-up segments were phased out. While I agree and understand phasing out the middle stand-up segments, they should have kept the opening and closing segments. Finally, I have seen Jerry in interviews where the interviewer forced him to do some of his routines on the spot. When forced, Jerry was not very funny as timing and build is so important to his act, so do not judge his talents by these interviews. We will be watching Jerry Seinfeld on TV reruns for many years to come. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Thanks Jerry!!!

His act was a page out of one of his idol's Bill Cosby's reportoire...a great storyteller on stage..and he created the best show television has ever seen!

I idolize Jerry Seinfeld. He is the man. I have even had dreams where I am hanging out with Jerry and "the gang" like we are all friends. I may have even got a little teary eyed when the last episode was on. Jerry, I'll miss you bud. . .

I never found this horse-faced jacka$$ funny in the least. His television show sucked, and too much is made of it being a show about 'nothing.' Like that's sooooo intellectual and innovative. I really can't stand his style of observational humour, it's not clever and it certainly isn't funny. Anyone can observe things and talk about them, which is basically what he does. His attempts at jokes are painful, and his voice, face, and whole persona are unrelentingly annoying and abrasive. I hope that his car goes over a cliff.

he's hilarious in seinfeld. But i went to see his jerry seinfeld show and the person before him did as good as him.

SH!TTY comedian, the man had DUBIOUS written all over him when he started Seinfeld, that show was not funny at all and was overrated.

Mealy-mouth twerp who you just want to flush head-first down the toilet. His TV show was the most overrated piece of crap ever, the "I Love Lucy" of its time in that it was very popular among the idiots, but pure garbage nonetheless.

We aren't looking at the SHOW; we are looking at Jerry, the atrocious stand up stupedian. He is one of the worst stand up comedians ever. He doesn't even deserve to be listed.

Lets seperate Jerry Seinfeld the comedian and Seinfeld the SHOW. The Show is great, the WRITERS did a great job. Jerry Seinfeld presence on the show however, falls far behind the amusing antics of Kramer, Elaine, and George. Jerry piggybacks on their abilities.

How does Jerry Seinfeld not deserve a 5. This man is absolutely the greatest at what he does. No one does comedy better than Jerry Seinfeld. My personal favorite segment on the show is when Kramer and Newman claim to have been spat at by Keith Hernandez. Our hero proves them wrong by saying "That is one magical loogie." because "there had to have been a second spitter."

This guy managed to stand out from the crowd almost from the beginning of his career - though it may have seemed a longer wait to him. I have seen very few comedians that have taken off so quickly and continue to do as well as Jerry Seinfeld. His standup is witty and broad enough to hold its appeal over the years. One of the secrets to this comedic longevity may be that he tends to find humor in average everyday situations that will remain classic topics with which anyone can identify. Only rarely does he rely on the off color, embarrassing or cheap laughs, which I believe, is a testament to his genuine abilities.

I don't find him funny and I hated Seinfeld.

The genius of Jerry's humor was his, and the other characters', ability to laugh at themselves. The political incorrectness was often hilarious, too. Most of us could have done as well, and even better, w/o the raunchy sex talk and situations: the funniest shows focused on human foibles, not overt sexuality. Remember the Soup Nazi? "No soup for you- three year!" LOL

He is the one and only, the comedian of the daily little things. Every chapter of his show was a piece of art... perfectly round from the beginning until the end...

How can Jerry deserve anything but the best. His observations of everyday life astound me and his show I one which I can watch the same episode a thousand times and watch in awe. He certainly changed the way people thought of his show as just another mindless sitcom by reaching comic perfection every week for 9 years. The way he tied the alternate storylines together was just amazing. I am hoping he will do some more stand-up and possibly release another album.

Loved him till I heard he stole a newly weds wife and married her. That's pretty low, but he's funny.

It's getting a little old now, but in the 90s Jerry's stand-up was hilarious.

Coryjones call Seinfeld a "loser". The TV show Seinfeld has been hailed as the greatest TV show of all time, introduced new phrases to the American lexicon, and set the standard for comedy on TV. Hmmm, now who's the loser here??

Intelligent humour.

He has that type of logic tour. For example, he'll introduce a situation that, at first glance seems logical, but turns it around and totally surprises you. Ex: Why do parachuters wear helmets?

He is extremely in tune with the humor in stupid small aspects of life. Can take a statement or idea and run with it forever.

He is the funniest. Seinfeld is the only show where I laughed 'till I cried. His humor is original and fresh. It's not slapstick humor.

He is an okay comedian. The material he comes up with is funny. It would be good if he could expand his comedy outside of the topics(show about nothing) covered in his television.

Interesting that Seinfeld's standup act got old quickly, while the show stayed great (until perhaps the last season but that was mostly George's fault). I remember in the early days of the series, they put more prominence on segments from his standup act and I was disappointed when they started limiting that. In retrospect, it was a good move!

His show was fabulous, but he isn't overly funny in person. He tends to say the same things over and over, and expecting the world to just roll in the aisle upon hearing him. I think not, my friend...... I think not.
