One of my all-time favorites

just plain funny. yes, he goes off o tangents but sooner or later it gets connected. a great comedian and a good actor.

He is hilarious! I love his hbo special live at broadway! Laughing to death every time i wach it...

I can't watch him, I have to turn the channel, he is about as funny as watching someone on a bad LSD trip! I don't like his movies or stand up, just too frantic and frenzied.

I will never understand his wide spread popularity. I never bought into his stand up (and I performed stand up myself...though not with the same level of sucess!)...and rarely "got" his movies. I enjoyed Popeye...and Good Will Hunting...that's about it. Oh, and that movie where he played the killer in the Alaskan wilderness. However, the last two I mentioned were not comedies...but did showcase his range as an entertainer.

He was in a class by himself in his stand-up heyday. He was vaudeville, satirist, impressionist, circus clown, and storyteller and the best in the business at any single element. He had a manic energy and an agile mind that we have never seen the likes of. He wasn't afraid to push the edge of acceptable comedy, but he never became so engrossed in the cause of changing the world that he forgot to be funny when he was on stage. Few if any comedians can keep their act at the top level forever. He smartly diversified and became an actor with a career of peaks and valleys, just like any one who stays in the business for the long haul. Thankfully he keeps his tools sharp by taking to the stage ever decade or so and performing "in one".

i love his comedies and his movies..good guy all around

Mr. Williams is a wonderful comedian. He truly makes you laugh out loud. I like the majority of his movies. He seems like such a likeable individual. Honestly, I worry about people who think ill of the man.

Each to their own--I guess. Personally, I'll have a tear in my eye when I hear of his passing. I have literally grown up watching him perform.

Foul mouth? I don't care. At least he isn't cruel in his humor--which seems to be the "cool" thing to do anymore.

May be the best ever and I know there have been some great ones. His improvisation is second to none.

Hard to believe that one person could have so much talent and energy. He's like a hyper kid who's had way to much coffee and energy drinks. Very funny. Those who don't like him are proably big Gallagher fans.

Being manic does not necessarily make you funny. With only a few exceptions his films are pretty poor. Also he has been playing the same part for his whole career, ok so it makes him money but he definitely doesn't warrant 5 stars.

Very funny at times. His stand-up leaves something to be desired. I tend to like his interviews where he seems to be quick-witted and off the cuff.

This man is a marvel with an imagination so far above that of most of us that we can but watch him in awe. I once saw him do a ten minute schtick on a feather boa that he took from a lady in the audience, laughing [literally] until my sides hurt.

His films are funny his stand-up isn't. He needs to do more than just immatate hollywood actors.

Gets four stars for everything he did up until 1990, but loses one important star for the one-note maniac, shuffling, lispy-voiced, elmer fudd impersonating cariacture of himself he's become on stage in recent years.

What can you say about Mr. Williams other then the fact that he does not play with a full deck. He is one of the funniest people to ever set foot on this planet and he can act. If you don't think Robin is a great comedian then you have never seen or understood his stand up act

I'll admit he has a foul mouthl, but give this man credit, he knows how to entertain an audience and make people laugh.

He is either loved or hated. I love him. DonnaJ, wrong category. We are talking about stand-up comedy. Live on Broadway is great. His 1987 CD is alright, but it probably was too before my time (his Regean skit though was great).

Hasn't been funny as a stand-up comic in a long time. I hated his whole 80's coke-addict image. (Although he's much better in movies.)

Everytime I watch Live on Broadway, I can't stop laughing.

He's no longer funny as a stand up comedian. I guess playing nuts in Insomnia and One Hour Photo and Death to Smoochy will do that to you. In the early days, he was frantic and funny (emphasis on frantic)--was he on speed or what? Who can come up with comments like that at random? No one--and he was great. He relied too much on penis jokes, but his rants about alcoholism and Elmer Fudd doing Bruce Springsteen. I was on the floor.

I've seen Live on Broadway millions of times, and it's still just as funny. He's extremely sarcastic and energetic as a small nuclear powerplant. I worship his work and mind. - Though Bill Hicks is very much like him, he's just got this bad attitude to him, that I love. Bill Hicks and Robin Williams are by far my favourites, compensating for each other's missings. What Bill Hicks needs, Robin Williams has got! And of course the other way around too. - People, if you like Robin Williams' sarcasm, watch Bill Hicks! He doesn't care about who you are..

I think as an actor he is as good as they get...I enjoy watching any movie he makes...

can't stand this guy

Used to really be funny, but the same act for over 20 years wears thin. Also, I am not interested in his left wing communist political agenda. These celebreties need to realize we do not care to hear their ignorant views. This is one of many celebreties that I will not pay one nickle to see. I will not line the left's pocketbook.

Robin Williams is awesome. Watch Robin Williams Live on Broadway. Thats all I need to say.

One of the best I've ever seen, One time he was doing standup and asked for a topic from the audience.. Shakespeare or something.. Before he did a bit about Shakespeare he seemingly went off on a coke-induced tangent (Those who saw his early work know what I mean) well 25 minutes later he says Ok! Shakespeare and does this fabulously funny bit about the Bard, and you realize... that whole time he was doing other bits, and telling other jokes, his mind was working, creating this bit on Shakespeare.. That is true genious.. Too bad he doesn't do much standup anymore..

Old Mork from Ork or was that Happy Days? He can be really fuuny as well as a good actor, but then he starts freaking out like he's got MS or some sort of disorder producing seizures... I thought he was a mime or something.

Watching Robin Williams makes me feel breathless due to his continuous and manic ad-libbing. While I do not doubt his talents and genius, his style and humor is not for me, and this is my rating; however, I have liked some of his movies, namely Moscow On The Hudson (1984), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) in which his manic style worked well and was more controlled, and Insomnia (2002) in which Williams didn't play a comedy role, but rather a dark, tragic figure. The bottom line is that Robin Williams is a comedian that one either loves or hates.

hes amazing...very few better than him ...live at the met was freakin hilarious...if ull dont have it ull shud dload it or sumthin...hes amazin...the enthusiasm..his accents are just amazin..live at broadway was really good too...love the part where he was talkin about scotsmen n golf..the way he speak is totally different from all the other comedians..others are more laid back but with him he very lively and enthusiastic which makes his comedy material even funnier..ONE OF THE GODS OF COMEDY

He's no Bill Hicks

He's been doing the same act for 20 years. If you laugh at what he does when he makes appearances today, you should rent a video of his from the 70s, cause you'll love it too! It's the same manic spin put on stuff that isn't funny. Moreover, the guy's well known for stealing bits of young comics. He's a world class hack. That said, I think he's a fine actor.

What can you say about Robin Williams that already hasn't been said. Tha man is brilliant weither on stage or onscreen. Patch Adams, Dead Poets Society, and Death to Smoochy are my fav movies and his fast paced "Live on Broadway" that I bought on DVD was the best I've ever seen. By the way, if anyone has seen his previous HBO special"Off the Wall" let me know cause I would love to find it. Thanx.

He was absolutely wonderful in Mrs. Doubtfire and as Mork. But that's it.

I'm used to seeing Robin Williams on the big screen, doing family-friendly kinds of movies, so seeing his stand-up routine on HBO recently made my jaw drop like a rock. It was just a shock to me to see him so . . . er, vulgar. Not that it's necessarily bad at all, it was just . . . well, you might not want your kids watching it. As an actor, he's shown a pretty good range of skill.

This guy is not funny. I wish I knew who first told him he could make a career of it because they ought to be shot. I have watched his act, as painful an experience I have yet to top, and the only thought I am left with is that if he wasn't a celebrity he would be hospitalized in the pshyc unit. I work with mentally handicapped individuals and I know a disturbed person when I see one. This guy has mental problems. Not funny. Crazy, yes. And those people that do find him funny... that really boggles my mind.

I never really looked at Williams as a great comedian. Why? Well, he's never made me laugh. He's a great actor, above average, but as a humorist he isn't all that appealing. He oftem seems desperate to come up with something funny.

He's one hairy bastard

I havent seen his stand-up, but I heard that part was good. I actually enjoy his acting very much and think his movies are funny. Best movie, Mrs. Doubtfire. He acts perfectly as both a man and an old woman in this film. If you have not seen it, buy it now.

Too manic, poorly paced, and irritating in stand-up. This guy is great when he has a well-defined comedic role to do, but once you get him off script he becomes shrill and overbearing.

Robin Williams is no doubt one of the greatest comedians that I have ever seen. Even when he’s trying to be serious, you can see the twinkle of mischief in his eye. I enjoyed his HBO on Broadway show so much I bought the DVD. He is a great pic-me-up when life seems to have dished out just too much and I need to take a chill.

I watch even the simplest interview and I pee in my pants. This man is beyond genius, he is super-human, and his talent is unsurpassable. He can make you cry from laughing or from the dramatic work he does. His interview on 'Inside the Actor's Studio' was a sparkling gem in the otherwise dull series. I highly respect and worship this man.

He is crazy funny

A fool ,someone whio is convinced he is so smart that anything he does is funny,I have never seen wit or charm from this product of Happy Days.

Robin is great, a master of improvasation. Also a great dramatic actor. As far as stand up goes, i wouldn't rank him that high because he really lacks focus and depth. He kinda just relays the constant chatter that is constantly going on in his head. It is entertaining, but I enjoy a more subtle and intelligent humor.

He's very funny, and I thought he was great on Whose Line. Pretty darn good comedian if I do say so myself.

Come on, this guy is the king of modern stand up. Has anyone seen his stand up comedy act on HBO, "Robin Williams Live On Broadway". It was simply brilliant. I have a lot of respect for his renouned ability to also act in dramatic films, which shows he truly has range as an actor.

He's the pre-eminent comic genius of our time--as a stand-up comedian. He fares less well in other media. In comic films and TV, he suffers because the writers simplay aren't as funny as he is. And he is preposterously overrated as a dramatic actor, a line of work he was lured into as a novelty item, and which he is unlikely ever to master. When he sticks to what he does best, though, no one can touch him.

lets not confuse comedy with stupidity...

This guy is a genius. The king of improv indeed. Flying at hyperspeed through his old stand-up, fantastic in his movie roles, does this guy have a downside? Okay, Good Will Hunting, but I'm no drama buff. Patch Adams was a fantastic movie that is highly recommended. And Live On Broadway is one of the greatest stand-up specials I've ever seen.

Obnoxious as hell. All these years later he still acts like Mork. Watch the old video of "Don't worry, be happy" by Bobby Mcferren. He is an absolute IDIOT!!

He's got SO MUCH ENGERGY! the thing he just did on HBO was absolutely hysterical. I think he's just not afraid of being onstage an looking like a nut which I commend him for. He goes so fast and he can do so many differenct acents that I have nothing but respect for him.
