If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Def Leppard should be rolling in the accolades: Starship took their shot at sounding Leppard-like on their 1989 album LOVE AMONG THE CANNIBALS, even going so far as to enlist the song-writing, production, and engineering services of long-time Def Lep helpers Robert John "Mutt" Lange & Mike Shipley (Starship's "I Didn't Mean to Stay All Night" is practically a Def Leppard song); and Bryan Adams did it too on his 1991 album WAKING UP THE NIEGHBOURS. Few acts could lay claim to having such a huge influence on mid-80's/early 90's rock & roll as Def Leppard. I remember when a DJ in Lansing, Michigan started giving "Tear It Down" a few spins back in 1989... it was the B-side of "Women", the very first single off of their masterpiece HYSTERIA from two years earlier. I prayed for the day when I could get my hands on that song, and they finally put it on the album ADRENALIZE (it never actually appeared on a Def Lep album before then). "Promises," "Guilty," and "Day After Day" (all from 1999's EUPHORIA) are excellent as well.

Def Leppard has always been FANTASTIC In Heavy Metal rock music, I rather listen to them all day then to that garbage music of today!!! Rap sucks, grundge sucks, Hip Hop sucks, AND Any music of 90's and beyond stinks !!! The only one that will Last is Heavy metal rock and def leppard are the ones!! DA BEST !!!!! And MANY MANY other ROCK groups of the 70's and 80'S THE BEST!!!
fitman 08/21/2008
None of these bands care what real music lovers think of them. They're either laughing all the way to the bank, or they have as bad taste as their fans.
GrandMasterN 08/19/2008
Probably my favorite 80's band. Although, I don't like any of the albums after Adrenalize.
Katrinabena 07/13/2008
Their first three albums are really good and then it went downhill fast. They have made too many terrible albums for a high rating though a hard rock fan could do worse than owning the early stuff.
Scot9447om 07/01/2008
Love their early stuff through Pyromania. Hate everything after that including Hysteria.
Dan34453 06/08/2008
Their best songs are, IMO: Animal, Armageddon It, Rocket, Hysteria, Rock of Ages, Foolin and Photograph
meatloaf921 03/22/2007
There's nothing wrong with liking Def Leppard. Pour Some Sugar On Me got me into metal. No, its not that heavy but considering I was into Michael Jackson at the time, um, yeah. Pyromania and Hysteria, both great albums. I remember Pour Some Sugar On Me and Armageddon It both being #1 for the longest time. You can put down Def Leppard all you want but the chicks dug it and thats all a guy needed to know. Rick Allan was impressive on the drums.
irishgit 03/12/2007
Make me wish I was def. One armed drummer, or not.
numbah16tdhaha 03/12/2007
Come on now, git, they got a one armed drummer! (I'm not kidding)
reaverto 03/05/2007
On Through the Night, High n' Dry, Pyromania - GreatHysteria - Good but overproducedEverything After - Crapola

How you guys can give Def Leppard such a low rating is beyond belief. How can you pick on their hair, that was all the rage in the 80's. They are excellent musicians and have some great old songs, hysteria being the best. They started out at the ripe old age of 17 and got better as the years went by. Their band has suffered tragedy and prevailed and still to this day put on a great show. The 80's would not have been the same without Def Leppard and pour some sugar on me is a great old song that sounds awesome even now.People who rate them low must be young and ignorant about heavy metal music!
rockin89 01/02/2007
One of the greatest bands of all time. All the people with negative comments about their hair, etc. are making me laugh with their ignorance. It just proves that those people are so arrogant (or possibly jealous?), that they can't see what a great, talented band Def Leppard truly is.
DefLepFan 07/28/2006
Hey.........what more can I say !! The 2006 concert tour with Journey is awesome. The Charlotte, NC show on July 15th packed 18K plus. The bass was a little overpowersome and they must have had an underlying bass track playing which was slightly off otherwise, Joe, Rick, Sav, Phil and Vivian rocked on. Must see concert !!
leftfinger 06/22/2006
I never know what to think of these guys. I hear "Armageddon It" on the radio and think "Pure candy-ass fluff" while I'm tapping my foot at the same time. Go figure. Kudos to them for sticking it out through all the hardships.
Djahuti 04/22/2006
Lame has beens. It takes more than Hair to make a great Metal band!
Gromit 04/06/2006
First 3 or 4 Leppard releases were GREAT hard rock. Then, they went musically downhill FAST when fame and fortune struck big.
frogger20190 03/29/2006
Pour Some Sugar on Me? What's not to like?
sfalconer 03/13/2006
How can you not love this band they have so much heart. The only problem is that it takes them years to produce a CD. They have all so gone through a lot but they managed to keep Rocking.
oscargamblesfr o 03/11/2006
A musical skeleton in the closet for me- when I was about 12 I liked garbage like this.
chris012258 11/18/2005
Lep's early years were much stronger than their work in the 90's, and although that era had its share of highlights, the early 80's through to 87' were far superior. Leppard's first true "Breakthrough" came with the 'Mutt' Lange produced Pyromania in 1983 with the vary fameous single Photograph. Pyromania has sence sold over 10 million coppies in the U.S. Bigger things followed in 1987 ( theband took 4 years to release another album because of drummer Rick Allen's accident, in which he lost his left arm) when Hysteria was released many top 20 and 10 singles followed including "Pour some sugar" on me the chart topping "love bites" and "Woman". Def Leppard proved themselves to be one of the strogest bands in the 80's
Smokie 11/10/2005
Good Fun!
ILikePie 09/27/2005
I love Def Leppard!! The fact that the drummer's only got one arm means that the 'legendary' Tre Cool can kiss his arse! Best song: Photograph
Marthy 09/04/2005
Def leppard Da best in rock and roll music!!!!! Continue to rock and roll, and come on down to hawaii, we need you here to wake up those hawaii locals to realize rock music rocks and is the best!!! iamfromhelltoo 08/12/2005
in 1983 they were great but now i wouldn't pay 5 dollars to see them
animal44035 04/05/2005
Greatest band of the 80's and 90's Do ya want to get ROCKED then is Def Leppard for sure. Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame bound.
Darksnake890 12/02/2004
I love Def Leppard's music, they are AWESOME, the best arena rock songs ever!! No one has the right to put these guys down!! the drummer has one arm, and he still plays like a Pro drummer. in my opinion their drummer is the best drummer in the world (not exaggerating). THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME, NO ONE CAN SAY OTHERWISE!!! OVER AND OUT!!!
attitudeamit 10/04/2003
BOOOOORIIIIING.
DeathRattle 09/23/2003
As years have gone by, they have become more conemporary rock than hard rock/metal (as least not as much as Bon Jovi). However, their claasic run through the 80's (their first five albums) will forever certify Def Leppard as one of hard rock's strongest acts. Their stronger materal was definitely back in their young hay days (pretty good for teens and guys in their early twenties).
snlgirl 06/22/2003
Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands. I saw them in concert, and they can still rock! It is so inspiring to see Their drummer still playing great even though he only has one arm. I absolutely LOOOOOVE Them!
defanimal 04/30/2003
I have been a fan since 1983. they are great on album and in concert.
Luvthepug 10/25/2002
Loved them in the 80's. Not really the same now but I still enjoy their music. What is with the Mariah Carey remake of Bringin on the Heartbreak?
Jason1972 10/21/2002
I'd have to give them ***1/2, really. But they don't quite get that 4 star rating. Why? Well, they've proven that they're strongly dependent on one producer who catapulted them into superstardom, (Robert "Mutt" Lange). Heck, the guy even captured lightning twice (Pyromania and Hysteria) but they can't seem to sound well without him.
LoneUSFullHous eFan 10/10/2002
One of the bands I grew up on from the 1980s. And it's not every day you meet a drummer who can play with one arm.
kyleigh6 06/23/2002
There is no band who has overcome the obsticles that they have. They are my favorite band and will always be. They are great live also. They seem to appreciate their fans as much as we appreciate them!
TheFreak 05/01/2002
Not that bad for a heavy-metal band. I suppose the fact that these guys are a few of the pickiest eaters on the planet ought not to affect my rating. "Hysteria" was one of the good things that came out of the 80s (it was the 80s, right?). Plus, their singer has an awesome taste in music. I probably couldn't tell you the name of a Def Leppard song if my life depended on it (I've heard assorted stuff off "Hysteria" - anyone got the titles?) but they are insanely good at what they do. Take care, everyone.
ellajedlicka21 01/12/2002
Their drummer has one arm, but that doesn't stop them from playing. I was happy to see though, that they spoke out on their liking of Queen.
hot4sav 11/09/2001
the hottest band to ever come along and stay through all these years.....they rock
Honey Rider 10/31/2001
I love Def Leppard! After Poison, these guys are the best 80's metal/ hair band! They have an awesome lead singer and a drummer who is as remarkable a drummer as Keith Moon (the drum god) was.
ChrissyT17 07/03/2001
Used to be a great band, but got away from their roots.
bethbgood 06/16/2001
I've seen Def Leppard two times on their Euphoria tour, they are still one of the greatest bands in rock. I enjoyed both shows and hope to see them again. Over all, their music is excellent, much better than most bands that are out there today.
MEMSTERtheREMS TER 03/14/2001
it's shear sentimental loyalty that makes me give the leps this rating. i lament what they've become musically, but in junior high i was absolutely obsessed with them. my bedroom wall was plastered top to bottom with their pics, i had a scrapbook on them, and talked endlessly with my best bud about all things leppard. i actually cried like a baby when steve clark died (i was 16 and hormonal, what can i say?). i still spin "pyromania" at least once a week, but perhaps they should have taken their own advice: it's better to burn out, than fade away. anything post-adrenalize is pretty useless, unless you want to torture noriega again...
crazy_byrd 02/24/2001
It's a shame they were so cheesy...I'd love to get some NEW stuff on cd...I don't think this band could do the "millenium" cd release if they TRIED. But DAMN were they ever good in the 80s!
godsofwar 02/11/2001
Why a 5 star rating? Just see any concert and you will agree. This band does not get the credit it deserves. They are loyal to their fans. They have continued to rock out for 20yrs. They do not get play on the local radio stations for whatever reason I do not know."Slang" was a great album, just mis-understood. If you listen more than once to most of the songs you will be "hooked" Get with it America.....DC
ladystrange 01/31/2001
These guys just keep getting better and better as time goes on. Loved them since 1983. Have seen them at least 7 times and they never disappoint in their shows. Can't wait until the next album comes out.
magical_myster ia2001 01/16/2001
Def Leppard is the best rock band in the world, always have been always will be!! I have been a huge fan sence the Hi-n-Dri album and have seen them in concert and they never dissapoint. There live shows are the best because of all the energy they have and the way the interact on stage!! They are devoted to and love there fans very much and that is what makes them the best band in the world!!
cascade 01/15/2001
I love them! :)
puzzled 01/15/2001
They are my fav band and always will be. I've only gotten the pleasure of seeing them twice but both times were great! I gave them a 5 but wish I could rate higher, because they certainly deserve it!!!
gemseeker 01/13/2001
What can I say, they're the best band in history....
chuckfriend 01/13/2001
