Ranked far too low on this list. Decent vocals and a number of impressive songs. "Iris" is unquestionably their best.

Well...I have been following this band since its conception (which gives away my age) and being of the female persuasion.....It was Johns looks that initially drew me in because he is without a doubt the most beautiful man that I have ever seen.....but having said that and let us put that aside (very difficult thing to put aside).........the lyrics are where it's at baby!!!! I have never heard a songwriter that puts the words down like he does. The lyrics have captivated me. Never mind that he is gorgeous...he is the most amazing composer of heart felt lyrics that has come along since......well there is just no one that compares. Many of his lyrics sound to me as though his heart has been chewed up and spit out more than once by one or more of us bitches...and if that is the case.....John I would like to say that we "the females" are collectively sorry for that....but without it.....these beautiful lyrics may never have been written. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. You are a beautiful soul and may your cup runneth over.....We Love You, John, Robbie and Mike

The Goos have kept their sound about the same for 20 years other than mainstreaming later into their career ...their acoustic-driven ballads such as iris, name, and black balloon have recieved the most credit...as well as slide, broadway, better days, we are the normal (a phenomenal song written with paul westerberg of the replacements), big machine, sympathy, and here is gone... their first chart-topper, name, in '95 from the album a boy named goo, triggered a distinct change in the goo goo dolls, they became more mainstream whereas, when they started out, they were pushed-aside for sounding too trashy and for being immitators of the replacements (another excellent band, which some people thought were simply a sloppy drunken punk band)...a boy named goo paved way for their most successful album dizzy up the girl released in '98 with the hits slide, broadway, black balloon, and iris....after dizzy up the girl came gutterflower which was an excellent album as well, with big machine, here is gone, and sympathy, it ,however, didn't get as much credit as hoped for...in late '04 the goo goo dolls released give a little bit (for their live album/dvd live in buffalo: july 4th 2005) a cover song written and originally prefomed by supertramp in '77, it rated high amongst radio stations and put the goo goo dolls back on the spot, in september of '05 they released the single better days which will be on their latest album in early '06...goo goo dolls still hang-in as one of the best adult alternative/punk bands, with thier unforgoten iris and name and plenty of fun, hard, punk songs, many wait to see what the goo goo dolls have left in store...i personally enjoy both their older music and their recent music they've been around over 20 years, every song is quite impressive, also very unique... all around john, robby, and mike (after george) are an excellent collection of musicians

emj5687 03/08/2005
Ive gotten really into them lately. They're great
Skizero 01/26/2005
more concerned with their hair than music.
edt4 01/21/2005
I guess they have the grungy rock-star look down pat, but their music you could play on elevators. In fact, elevator music is much more interesting and inventive. This is supposed to be rock music? More like rock muzak...

The Goo Goo Dolls used to be great with their old stuff. Albums Jed, Hold Me Up, Superstar Carwash, and A Boy Named Goo are all some of the best music I've ever heard. That being said, they've really sold out with their last two albums, Dizzy Up the Girl and Gutterflower. I still like their new stuff, but there's just no comparison between old and new.
neocheese223 06/27/2004
The goo goo dolls suck. People who abominate the goo goo dolls are winners. Stop listening to the crap they write, becasue they are SELLOUTS, and a numbskulled band. All they are doing is killing rock n' roll and trying to be groovy by changing their music style from punk to the crap they write. Their hit songs are just plain commiserable and inadequate. I hate it when people say that their lyrics are consequential, because their lyics are crap about sex and drugs, common pop music subject matter. It is galling how people thing the goo goo dolls are great, when they are nothing more that part of the incommodious disco craze of the late 1990's and are a mediocre band that writes second-rate anthems. The Smashing Pumpkins have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000X better lyrics, idiosyncrasy, vocalization, and overall sound. At least The Smashing Pumpkins can win 2 Grammy awards and the goo goo dolls can't. And The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is magnificent, and a gifted musician. And at least he can play guitar better, sing better, is not a aficionado, and can transcribe better canticles. I can think of 50+ corroborations about how The Smashing Pumpkins are better than the goo goo dolls, but I will be cordial and not say them b/c it could hurt all of their annoying and repungent fans. Because of my saying this, listen to authentic and pragmatical music like The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Madonna, Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, or The Smashing Pumpkins. And I have a memorandum to adherents of the goo goo dolls: You liking this obnoxious and corrupt band must be some kind of agreemend with a treaty. I hope the US comes drilling into your head looking for oil, since brains are one thing they're sure to miss.

Jonny Reznick must be one of the most unlucky-in-love singers ever, he's always singing about his heart getting broken. However, I like his voice, I like their songs, even if they're often singing about the same stuff, I think more than anything else, his chords and bridges if you look at his sheet music or guitar tabs, is really cool stuff.
BlairWitch187 04/14/2004
I have 2 of their CDs, and both of them are pretty good. They sound even better live and put on a hell of a show.
kolby1973 04/01/2004
Bland is an understatement for this band. There is absolutely nothing fun or creative that is coming out of this group...bleah...
Jed1000 04/01/2004
I never understood their success. The music is bland and uninspired. No accounting for taste, I suppose.
StanUzbeck 08/05/2003
Absolute garbage. Like Everclear, these guys are obviously friends with someone in the recording industry, and are proof that you don't need to be any good to be famous, you just need to be played on the radio a hundred times a day by bribed dj's. Goo Goo Dolls suck suck suck.
RebelYell1861 06/03/2003
Their music is just so boring. It's not interesting or even entertaining to listen to.
andrew smith 05/27/2003
decidedly average and they didnt even write 'Iris'
glamourgrrl994 1 01/05/2003
I think the Goo Goo Dolls are a great group! They aren't fake like all of those "teen pop boy" groups. They really haven't changed much, which is good. In case there are some clueless people out there they are from Buffalo, New York
karenannedream 12/31/2002

goo goo dolls kick ass.
martin moran 06/26/2001
The goo goo dolls are a brilliant band, but here in Ireland we don't hear much of them. The only albums I could find were"A boy named goo" and "Dizzy up the girl". It's a shame really 'coz Johnny"s such a great singer and exellent guitarist.
afterglow70 06/16/2001
When City of Angels came out, I bought the CD, but now, I couldn't tell you were I put it! At this point, I have heard them so much on the radio, I don't really like them, but there was a time when I wore out the CD.
Mystikal 04/22/2001
The Goo Goo Dolls put their heart and soul into everything they sing, and they're great at what they do. When I listen to them, it's like being in a dream.
janie53185 04/22/2001
I really like the Goo Goo Dolls, both the new and the old music. They have been around since '85. John is a great songwriter and an amazing guitarist, Robby has a cool punk style, and Mike is an awesome drummer, I wish he got more credit. Some say they've sold out, but I think they've just evolved to be more sophisticated. There are still loud raw songs on Dizzy Up the Girl, such as "Dizzy" and "Bulletproof". And just about every song on that album that Robby sings is very much their old punk like the music on the Jed and Super Star Carwash albums. I really like the Goo Goo Dolls, and I think they'll be around for a while.
powder 03/15/2001
can't get enough of them :) these guys seriously rock and are FANTASTIC live. their lyrics are really meaningful unlike some other groups around .
kittykat0013 03/13/2001
They put out a lot of good songs.
crazy_byrd 02/24/2001
"Iris" is a true classic rock tune....great band, great music :o)
goddess-girl 12/13/2000
The Goo Goo Dolls are one of the best laid back type of bands that ever was. I could just float away to the spell binding music that this great band produces.
thesexyone 11/06/2000
Even my dad likes them!!!!!
GODDESS1000 10/15/2000
Goo Goo Dolls are my favorite rock band! johnny's prety hot too! dizzy up the girls is such an awesome cd
Ruby 03/21/2000
I dug their second(?) album, Hold Me Up, so much when it came out. I'm kind of embarrassed of that now seeing how sentimental they became. Jon Bon Jovi himself did less playing to the girls in the crowd...
mcke3634om 01/13/2000
I don't think I have ever turned off one of their songs on the radio. That DOES say a lot. They have talent and a unique sound. Something about that Johnny guy is very appealing.
booz2917om 12/10/1999
i remember when they were loud too
x98k2062du 12/02/1999
Wonderful lyrics, but the music all sounds the same.
bigc1981om 11/30/1999
THE BEST. THE END.
abah584om 11/01/1999
Solid hard-driving rock. The lyrics can range from trivial to extremely interesting introspective examinations of various emotional conditions. The music is almost always very up-beat even if the lyrics are going the other way.
