04/28/2003 | The United States perform an incredible service to our nation by protecting our nation. They do not have the perfect record, but hey, nobody's perfect. Out of 42 Presidents, only four have been assassinated (Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Kennedy). That's quite a record. The Secret Service is reponsible for protecting our President, Vice President, First Family, and former presidents and their families. Indeed, they do have a wide variety of things to do, and they obviously seem to do a good job. Their only main flaws had to be the assassinations of Presidents McKinley and Kennedy, as those happened right under their nose, but proper measures have been taken and no President has been assassinated in the lat 40 years. Sometimes, as with Pres. Kennedy, the Secret Service becomes TOO protective, causing the President to tell them to lay off. The fact that they are TOO protective shows just how dedicated they are.
