She is awesome,I like her early stuff best. I still remember her supernova video, that's when she was at her best.

Strangely, she was a lot more interesting when she couldn't sing or play that well. The trenchant, sexy lyrics of "Exile in Guyville" and the surging riffs of "Whip-Smart" won me over, but I lost interest when she released her last two albums. Yet I must admit that when I saw her play acoustic in 2005, I was deeply impressed and pleasantly surprised. And not just by the fact that she's even better looking in person. But when I turn on the CD player, I have to say that, while she's slicker than ever, the songwriting skills just aren't there anymore. "I Spy a May Queen" (off Whip-Smart) is one of the all-time great songs.

Well I saw Liz Phair the other night live for the first time after listening to her music for years. She was accoustic, and in a tiny venue - SF's cafe du nord. Before I review her show, let me just say that her most recent stuff is awful. Heinous. Formulaic, hey I'm good looking, why can't I be like Kylie Minogue, overproduced crap. But her 1993 stuff, and Whip-Smart, are pretty special. Anyway, I think Liz knew her audience... playing accoustically, even her new stuff sounded sort of lo-fi cool. And her old stuff.... man. You sort of have to see Liz Phair to believe her. She's sort of magnetic - very pretty, with this electric, engaging smile. It was worth the price of admission just to watch her purr all I know is that I'm clean as a whistle baby... with a big, sly smile on her face. I kind of have to wish her well after seeing her. If she wants to be a big pop star, who am I to say she's selling out?

Never liked her, even when she was a grungy riotgirlll. Now that she blatantly makes empty pop songs for mass consumption and airplay on Target Department store speakers at 10 am on Saturday mornings I have no regard for her at all.

She's a total MILF.

ah Liz, if only you'd become so overt when i was in college. if this was 2000, you'd have my undying love and a 5 star review. but alas, you chose a popier path, songs written by the Matrix, and this pseudo-MILF persona all in an effort to get a few kids to buy your records, when you already had a solid fan base. gotta love the verve it takes to really work at destroying your credibility in one swoop. and I didn't even think your latest album was that bad. but seeing you in Maxim and scantily clad in Rolling Stone, while it titilated me and fulfilled a lot of visual fantasies gestating since 1992/1993, overall it didn't do anything. i guess i was hoping the 2003 version of Liz Phair would dig deeper and find that nearly middle-aged level of sexual perversion, instead of a 37 year old who just discovered mini skirts and wanted to give one a test drive by the local high school. I'm suddenly too old for you.

I gave her music a real chance. I got some of her old stuff and new stuff. I listened to it, and hated it. The lyrics are good, but her voice ruins it.

She sings Why Can't I all wrong, in my opinion. She lacks any edge or grunginess in her voice and the words and the music video indicates that's kind of what she's trying to portray. Her singing sounds so clean and happy (i don't know if i'm using good adjectives here), it sounds like she'd make a good kindergarten teacher.

I used to like her but something happened. I think she's trying too hard to go mainstream. Must need the money.

She was so much better when she was hungry.

Old-school Liz can't be beat

LOVE this chick! Not the greatest singing voice, but she makes it work. Similarly, there are hotter broads out there, but she's still sexy as hell the way she sings about being a whore and stuff. I own all her CD's. They get me hot. Oh yeah!

I love her sense of melody. She takes a song to levels I couldn't even imagine.

I've only heard exile in guyville recently and thought it was great.Where is she now?

The zillions of confrontational female rockers that followed in her path obscure how special she was and is. Exile in Guyville is one of the truly special records of the 1990s. Her pre-fame "Girlysound" tapes are a fun peek inside the bedroom music of the girl that would grow up to set indie boys' hearts aflame...

Liz Phair was the worst opener I've ever heard.

The sexiest, smartest, and most innovative female rocker to come along in years. Liz is a little sex-kitten, meow!
