The Master of Motown.

A great singer in the first half of his career, he fought and won the battle to make music that mattered at Motown and paved the way for Stevie Wonder's incredible string of records in the 70's. Unfortunately for Marvin, his demons got the best of him when he was at the top of his career and what could have been his most productive period is kind of hit and miss. He did go out on a high note though with Midnight Love.

I have great respect for his talent.How sad it is that he's gone."What's Going On" is just as valid today,if not more so-than when it was written.

Flying in the sky and Inner city blues are just beautiful songs, just beautiful. I never fully appreciated his music until I heard Innercity blues playing in this movie "Doing Hard time". I fell in love right then and there. This guy is a legend! RIP brother.

Whats Going On is great along with Too Busy Thinking About My Baby. One of the all time best

It was a tragedy, not so much that Marvin Gaye died at the hands of his father, but that the world was robbed of one of the great talents of R&B. What might have been is certainly a question. Might Gaye might have come up with other timeless songs, or may have have fallen further into drug addiction. But for the songs Gaye did perform (and of which we are so fortunate to have been left with) such as 'What's Goin' On' and 'Sexual Healing', it is unmistakable he was one of the greats- on par with his heroes, Sam Cooke and Ella Fitzgerald.

One of the best Motown offered.

He made some awesome songs.."Heard it through the Grapevine", "Sexual Healing", etc.

Highly over rated. I believe "What's Going On" signeled the beginning of the end of Soul Music. I've heard from his sidemen that he was an OK kind of dude, but very moody. The disco beat, way before the term was coined, left little for rhythm sections to play, too constrained. At this point in time drummers, at the wish of "young, highly suspect producers", started playing so simple that they "painted themselves into a corner." Which meant they were relegated to backbeats and very little else. Marvin had a couple of nice tunes. Too bad he died so young.

GAYE! get it right. how could you not spell it correctly? He has written spectacular music. sexual healing, aint no mountian high enough, I heard it through the grapevine,how sweet it is, and many more. His contributions to motown are spectacular. he blows all of the others out of the water. Aretha who?

Excellent voice with a political message to send. What's Going On is one of the greatest albums ever. It is an offense that Marvin Gaye isn't in the top 20 where he belongs. By the way Rateitall- the spelling is Marvin GAYE.

Marvin Gaye was a great soul artist. Too bad he died so soon, because he had skillz. And it's GAYE, not Gay!

Two words. Sexual healing.

Marvin's an absolute angel. He collaborates with a bunch of guys to write some beautiful melodies and his short soulful phrasing puts him in an important position for the history of popular music- "What's Going On" is an amazing record.

Another Motown legend.

Marvin remains the best singer of all times. I am so sorry that he is not here with us today, but realize his music will last forever.
