I like pork chops, ribs, beans and an IPod playing an eternal loop of the "Dueling Banjos" from "Deliverance." Yes, mostly friendly White folks, I guess.

Perhaps the list maker had the stereotype of liberal white people in mind? Some white people prefer pork chops, mashed potatoes with graxy, and a side of buttered corn with pie ala mode for desert. In fact, given the state of most Americans' bodies, I suspect chicken fried steak is a whole lot more popular than that effete organic crap.;-)

I like the description of the list item: "The food must be home made with fresh, organic ingredients, the music must be just right ...ultimate goal is to do a better job than the couple at the last dinner party while attempting to make everyone jealous and sort of dislike you."But frankly I've taken in examples of much more extreme entertaining over a table among Indian families and Latin American families where not only is the hospitality poured on, but food volume is nothing short of copious, the table banter is raucous and the smell can be sensed a quarter mile away.

I'm past that stage now. My cat is very understanding and easily pleased about an evening spent tête-à-tête.

Problem- not a sole property of whiteys. Dinner parties come in many forms in cultures too numerous to list here. Glad to see this one low on the list.

They are very stressful. I just want everyone to go away so I can relax in peace.

I rather go to a game or perhaps shoot pool.

The formal variety whose only real purpose is for social posturing is no fun. An informal dinner party among real friends, however, can be a great time.

I'm fond of cooking elaborate gourmet meals and inviting my friends to come over and treat my home like a restaurant.

could be a "white" thing. I agree that my biggest experiences with dinner get togethers are cookout barbeques. I have never had a dinner party or want to. closest thing I have had is when I have had to host Thanksgiving dinner and I do not think that counts. too stuffy for me. all those rules and manners you have to follow. besides if i ever went to a dinner party it would probably be a disaster like the one pictured in the "Office" episode pictured.
Jamie McBain 10/18/2008
It's ok, but I love BBQ's, they are more fun to go to.

When I hear "dinner party", the first thing that comes to my mind are high-society snobbery parties, usually made up of the town's "ultra-upper-crust" people who are a little out of my league. No offense, but I'm a simpler person and I just can't identify with such an atmosphere. Parties are fine, but I prefer things "no-frills" -- like a pizza party. Now that's more my style!

if i don't do the cooking!
