 | thereviewer (3) 05/13/2008 | I bought their latest album, "Third" and it is the best album I've heard in awhile. I had downloaded "Sour Times" in the past and liked it, but I wasn't sure about this new album until I heard "Machine Gun," which is phenomenal. The other songs were harder to get into but after I heard them once or twice I was hooked. They are by no means pop but if you like complex, artistic, mellow, or electronic music then definitely listen to them. Their music is similar to Radiohead in some ways but otherwise unlike anything I've heard. It's good to see truly innovative music make headlines. Get "Third."

 | StanUzbeck (16) 08/05/2003 | I totally adore Portishead. Beth Gibbons is one of the most interesting female vocalists out there, at turns suicidally depressive and gleefully wicked. The backup music is standard triphop, whatever that means, but the vocalist helps them transcend such labels. I hope they decide to continue doing their thing, as there is lots of room for progression.

 | Teaseress (15) 05/16/2002 | What on earth has happened to Portishead, they've disappeared and I want them back. They have a good mix of moving vocals provided by the media shy Beth Gibbons and funky music. I haven't really heard a band like them and I doubt that I ever will.

 | glorybox3 (0) 09/03/2001 | I really love Portishead. So much so that there is not one song on ANY of their CD's that I skip. I love Beth Gibbon's emotional vocals as I love the backround instrumentals as I love the smart lyrics. I really love every single aspect of this band. I recommend this group as highly as one could recommend. I'm really hooked to Dummy right now-I've pretty much been listening to it non stop for a month or so. Portishead is brilliance personified-sadness personified-Glory (:))personified. This is pure good music personified. LISTEN.

 | stardom78 (0) 02/26/2001 | from the moment i heard P i felt like i had found a sound that i thought other bands had gotten close to but never really attained. It is incredibly powerful music. It sets a mood that lasts forever. When i hear each song i remember what i was doing years ago when i was listening to portishead. Still number #1 heavy-weight despite strong competition from the likes of Hooverphonic and Esthero.

 | portis99 (0) 12/28/2000 | When you listen to portishead, you don't just listen to it, you feel it, her voice is so captivating, and the whole insrumental mix draws you into the songs as if you are there watching it. I strongly suggest "all mine" as a personal pick, it has so much energy, it's so sexy, and it's in it's own class. I don't feel that you have to be into the whole "trip-hop" scene to really be into this group, I think anyone with any kind of music appreciation can have admiration for this group, Beth pouring her heart out in words, their original sound. I give it my best rating, as an owner of all the cd's and the live at Roseland video, I highly recommend Portishead

 | Gary Crash (0) 12/13/2000 | Simply a classic album from an incredible band.Without question a world-class band on all levels (listen to the LIVE at Roseland album!). They are masters at creating mood and emotion on every single cut in the album. A MUST for trip hop enthusiasts and music lovers alike as they fill the melodic void often ignored by their peers.Just get it and give it a chance.

 | john430et (0) 10/29/1999 | Took me a while to get into their first record, but once I did, I wasn't able to stop listening to it. Love the vocals, intelligent dj work. First record (Portishead) is still best.
