Some noteworthy songs in there, but seemed to lose their flare when they were sensationalized by pop culture and their songs were persistently overplayed on the airwaves. Other than "Under the Bridge" and a few other hits, nothing to write home about.

The ratio of filler material to great songs is very large for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All of their best material from the last 25 years could be consolidated into one excellent album. The rest of their work is disposable.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are another group I consider overrated as a general rule. The band clearly was a leader in adding a funk influence to their primary hard rock sound and they did have some highlights pre "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" (1991) (e.g. their killer cover of "Higher Ground"), but they have really been hit or miss since. Somewhere along the way the Chili Peppers lost an edge.

You kids got no respect! Sure they're a bit silly, but man could these guys do the white boy funk thing. Back in the mid-1980s they appeared on these old Skate Rock compilations, and we'd throw down a skate session to Freaky Styley, The Uplift MoFo Party Plan or Mother's Milk. Funky, oh yeah. Blood Sugar Sex Magik had some great tunes, but needed some editing-- some of the content not so good. They've come of age alright too, but have always been pretty hit and miss. I chuckled to read Californication referred to by one rater as their old stuff. Another rater had it right though-- their live shows leave a bit to be desired (sloppy), and that hurts the rating for sure.

Classic case of a band being less than the sum of its parts. Flea's an excellent bassist and Fruscianti's a good guitarist. Shame that the music's so crap.

Talk about a change in music over the years. Back in the Freaky Styley and Uplift days, funk was the only way to go for the Peppers. In their recent albums, they have expanded into wide varieties of music with excellent songwriting. It's o.k. to progress into different genres (i.e. Beatles), despite what some people say. Any way you look at it, they have great records and great musicianship between drummer Chad Smith and bassist Flea. The down side to these guys is the live show. Frusciante is a sloppy and overrated guitar player and Kiedis is often off key. Despite this, they have great records to listen to.

You know, I listened to Chili Peppers for a long time before really liking them. I mean Higher Ground on Mother's Milk was cool and everything, but it was hard for me to get into the beat, being an 80's rocker and all. But it all changed with Blood Suger Sex Magik. Then I started getting into the lyrics and realizing how good RHCP really were.... The lyrics were nasty like Sir Psycho Sexy, mellow like Under the Bridge, and passionate like Power of Equality: "Little brother do you hear me- Have a heart oh come get near me- Misery is not my friend- But I'll break before I bend- What I see is insanity- Whatever happened to humanity" Since then, I've been hooked, and the I love the riffs that support it as much as the lyrics themselves. Their concerts are great and full of energy, and also telling because you can see the age mixture of young and old fans alike. I am just looking forward to the next 5 albums to see where they go musically, because I'm ready for it now!

the red hot chili pepperes are one of the greatest rock bands of all time!!!!! no other band has been able to combine rock, funk, rap, thrash and punk. despite of what anybody says they are survivors, musical icons and musical legends.this powerfull band revolutionized a whole a whole musical movement,if it wasn't for them we probably wouldn't have "rock-rap" bands like limp bizkit, linkin park or papa roach.RHCP # 1 4 LIFE !!!!!

First of all, let me state that I do not give two bags of llama hooves about that sock thing the RHCP did. Most of these three stars is for Flea...he is a great bassist who often has something worthwile to say (fantastic in "Under The Bridge", my favorite Chili Peppers song) and I believe he made the most useful contributions to the music. Their drummer, whatever his name is, was also really good, and the RHCP has the rare ability to divide the song up equally. Not one of my all-time favorites, but definitely a good band and I respect what they have done for the music industry. Take care, everyone!

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will go down in history as one of the greatest evolving bands of all time. Being able to add their own style to whatever they are playing whether it be rock, funk, punk, or jazz. Keidis' lyrics are purely poetic Flea can jam at the same level of Les Claypool if not above. In Californication John seems to have finally found his connection in the band making the album feel as though it was recorded by one entity.

RHCP are a rare package. Kiedis is an appealing and musical vocal stylist. His lyrics are entertaining and poetic. I get the impression the loss of Hillel Slovak is a big creative force in this band. John Fruciante is very musical and creative, Chad Smith is IT, and hurrah for Flea copping the Jack Bruce vibe on Californication [check out Otherside (bridge) and My Savior]. RHCP has the whole package.

I think the Peppers definately have it. They have their own sound, inimitable and beguiling. Their best work has to be Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but Californication had some killer bass line parts...Go Flea! I want Anthony's sexy body in bad ways. Anywho, I just hope they keep up the kick ass work and keep on rockin.

Great musically... they finally seem to have found their own sound, which they lost with Hillel Slovak's O.D.. Albeit it's different now. Flea is a great funk bassist, but everyone should stop thinking he's such an innovator, because what he's doing is bringing black bass riffs to white kids, kind of a "bass Elvis." But when ya stop analyzin' and start groovalyzin'... man! Flea and the boys'll tear the roof off the sucka!

These guys are the greatest, and I'm not just saying that because I want Anthony's body (which I do)... This band's got some seriously funky shtuff goin' on and it's never gonna go away. Deal with it. Flea is probably the best bassist I have ever heard - not one of those guys who just plays 2 or 3 notes. Heck, I even went out and bought a bass about 6 years ago so I could learn to play like him (foolish mortal to think I could be like a god ;))... I just bought Californication and I am far from disappointed - I've never seen a band grow so much and keep that raw energy that the Peppers still have. I've seen good bands fade after just one great album, not to mention any names (Pearl Jam). I think it really shows when a band truly CARES about their music (Anthony says himself, "My lilly white ass is tickled pink when I listen to the music that makes me think..." Right on...) Definitely one of my favorites, and certainly worth picking up ANY of their CDs (I recommend Uplift Mofo Party Plan...) I guess if you're offended easily (since Anthony doesn't seem to be too fond of some religious and social practises...) then this group isn't for you, but if you can step back and LISTEN TO WHAT THEY'RE SAYING about people and about life and accept it as ONE OPINION, then go for it. Great tunes, great messages. What can I say? I love these guys!
