I have always found soundgarden's music to be very submersive. They had a great atmosphere to their songs that could only be rivaled by a good progressive rock, psychedelic rock, or stoner/ sludge metal band. They are on par with alice in chains. truely the underrated group out of the seattle commerical acts.

Perhaps it's too subjective, but I could never get into Soundgarden's earlier material. The singles from this period always sounded under produced and less crisp than those from "Superunknown" (1994) and "Down On The Upside" (1996), with singles like "Fell On Black Days", "Black Hole Sun", and "Burden In My Hand". These latter efforts just had a cleaner sound and were much more interesting. Nevertheless, by this time grunge was getting a bit overexposed, and I lost interest in the band.

Black Hole Sun is pretty good. I too, would say they can rock!
redhotchilis 05/17/2006
They're damn good, these guys can rock!

Their material after Superunknown was good but not great. Up till that point they were the best band to come out of the grunge scene. Superunknown and Badmotorfinger are still kicking even today

The early stuff (from Hands All Over to Black Hole Sun) was an upward spiral into sonic awe. Later, you got the impression that they'd run out of rivers to cross, so I was pleased to see them exit with integrity. Cornell has the best controlled wail of all time (play Superunknown again and doubt no more), plaintive and virulent up and down the scale. Kim would wander on solos, but Matt and Ben anchored everything securely (STILL the best live band of that era). Unfairly labelled as grunge godfathers, they were able to power their way past the expected and entrench themselves as a unique outfit.

While I'm not the biggest Audioslave fan (Chris Cornell and Rage Against the Machine hybrid) I do quite enjoy popping in Superunknown and having a good listen.
kingguiness 04/26/2005
Extremely overrated and dated. Their stuff was good in 1989 but listening to it in 2005 is like whatever......

Soundgarden exemplify everything good about rock and roll. Their music is rebellious, clever, experimental and intricately melodic. I don't think a Rock band has emerged since their disbanding that even comes close.

One of the very few 90s rock bands who were any good. Chris Cornell is probably the best rock singer since Paul Rodgers (Free and Bad Company). Superunknown and Badmotorfinger are way superior to Nevermind.

They suck!!!

For those of you who rated this 1,2,3 stars... well, I am not even going to go there. This is one of my favorite bands of all time. I remember being in high school and Cornell and the gang would surprise me over and over with brilliant music.

One of the great bands of it's time-incredible live performance. Can't really be classified which is cool!Cornell is an awesome vocalist and songwriter.

Chris Cornell is one of THE top vocalists in rock. For anyone who thinks the grunge bands had no muscial talent, are you deaf? Can you not hear Kim Thayil's outstanding guitar, Ben Shepard's haunting bass and forceful backup vocals, and Matt Cameron's creative and outstanding drumming, which he has now done for about six thousand bands? A collection of amazing musicians who put out many a great album, and whose legacy as a grunge pioneer lives today.

What a great band they were! Exceptional vocals from Chris Cornell. But I still can't picture him fronting for Rage Against The Machine. Hopefully, it will never happen. These guys quit while they were on top, which can be looked at in both ways; they quit before it got too redundant (unlike other bands like Pearl Jam and Green Day), but they quit while they were on top leaving us on a good note.

Chris Cornell and members of RATM have released their first single called "Cochise". The other stuff thats been floating around under the name "Civilain" and "The New Rage/Chris Cornell Project," does not represent their complete Audioslave album. To listen to "Cochise" visit Launch at Yahoo! under ARTIST SPOTLIGHT, http://launch.yahoo.com

soundgarden is another great band from the 90's. chris can belt out the tunes better than any rock band out today.
dragonflytb 01/18/2002
aahh!!! what can i say? chris cornell sings beautifully and this band will live on as a legend, not only because they ROCK, but because they knew to quit while they were ahead.
SndGarden 06/26/2001
Soundgarden, it's THE band. Even if they don't exist anymore, I still love 'em. They are my inspiration, my life and my mind. Whatever how you feel, SG will have the song for your mood. Sorry for my english. I speak french.
crazy_byrd 02/24/2001
I miss this band like you wouldn't BELIEVE. They sorta died out after that ridiculous spoonman song but Badmotorfinger lives on in my stereo.
Teaseress 02/18/2001
Loved their first two albums, very fierce! Oh yeah, gte23588du, I think you are thinking of Savage Garden, the Australian duo. Soundgarden have now split up and were part of the Seattle grunge scene in the 90's and did songs like 'Black Hole Sun'.
charley2112 01/27/2001
These guys are great! Hopefully they'll get back together.I saw them at lolopoloza though and maybee they were just having a bad day or something but they seemed like stuck up a##holes
egongb 10/16/2000

Wtbyan 10/03/2000

yumm10222om 08/27/2000
basically a good band
wnap6595om 05/27/2000
One of the best rock bands ever. Time will bear this out.
yofe6667om 05/15/2000
Can't get much more powerful and melodic at the same time then these guys. Every album is totally different then the previous. They took chances and got even better with age over the years. It's a shame they aren't making music anymore. Maybe one day again. I hate to think there is Zero Chance.
mtro6379et 05/06/2000
best of the seattle groups...........
