 | tscopel (0) 10/20/2008 | Don Henley is a selfish snob who thinks he is one of the two gods of the Eagles. By the way, Glen Frey is the other. If it wasn't for Don Felder, the Eagles would have been nothing at all.

His material from 82-85 was good. Even End Of The Innocence is decent. But after that he tanked big time.

 | edt4 (114) 01/24/2005 | I'm with Stanuzbeck on this. When I was in high school in the late 70's, I absolutely despised the Eagles. Bland, uninspired, insipid dreck that was ubiquitous...every time you turned on the radio in those days, another tedious dingleberry from the Eagles playlist would be dribbling out of the speaker yet again, like a torture devised by Satan himself that would last unto eternity. Thankfully, the Eagles broke up, but Henley continues on...and on...and on...does he have anything to say that I need to hear? Nope, and the music is just as boring and just as dreary done by one ex-Eagle as it was in the old days done by a whole flock of these tiresome old birds...

 | StanUzbeck (16) 09/24/2003 | Let's just get one thing straight: the Eagles were a disgrace to music. Just because they sold millions (many millions) of albums does not make them a good band. Britney Spears sells zillions of albums and she is hardly influential or important in any real sense. I saw an Eagles concert on tv once, and I realised for the first time that most of the songs that make me immediately change the radio station were written by the Eagles. At least Joe Walsh had a good sense of humour, the rest of the band took themselves sooooo seriously. The worst of the lot was Don Henley. When he got up from behind the drum kit to sing a few songs, he was so painfully earnest and sincere that I wanted to pistol-whip the guy. Seriously, he had to tell a little story about the song's background and history before every number, and then proceeded to scrunch up his face and close his eyes and sing with almost inhuman earnestness. And when someone is THAT sincere they come off sounding really fake and INsincere. As for his solo stuff, The Boys of Summer is an ok song, but it sounds like a Bryan Adams ripoff. Think about that concept for a minute, a secondhand Bryan Adams but without a trace of humour or levity, or talent. And I can't just quietly ignore Don Henley either, as he and the rest of the Eagles have remained pretty much ubiquitous on AOR radio for like thirty years. They really were never that good, people. Also, they're a band that everyone hates, but buys their albums anyway, which can only mean that there's some sort of Satanic deal going on, although what would Satan want with Don Henley's soul anyway? I mean, it just wouldn't be much fun inflicting the tortures of hell on the guy, because he'd simply and earnestly screw up his face and bear the agonizing flames, and then write a conspicuously bad song about it. Maybe he has some embarrassing pictures of the Lord of the Underworld that he's threatening to distribute among the lesser demons in order to undermine Satan's authority down there. And a lot of the people in hell are probably Eagles fans, so why reward them by bringing their favourite singer down to serenade them as they push heavy boulders up infinitely large hills for all eternity. Maybe they'll make him Hitler's roommate or something, and have the Fuhrer make him sing german polka songs all the time and scream and rage violently whenever Dan pulls out an acoustic guitar. But I don't imagine Satan would give even Hitler positions of responsibility like that in Hell, because that would kind of miss the whole point of sending people to Hell to punish them for all eternity. Oh wait, maybe they blast Eagles tunes at ear-splitting volume all the time in Hell, that way Don Henley would still be punished, and everyone would start to really hate him in a very short time. Bad enough to be in Hell, but to have absolutely no friends among the damned and have them glare at you, like having hot lumps of flaming asphalt inserted into their anal cavity would be tolerable if only it weren't for them also being forced to listen to Desperado 13000 times in a row while it's happening. Yeah, so that's the explanation for the Eagles continued popularity: The Devil has claim to their souls when it's all over, although he really only wants to have Joe Walsh around because he'd be a cool guy to hang out with, and not to punish the guy.

 | kolby1973 (33) 09/03/2003 | Don Henley is almost as boring as Sting, just one star more entertaining. He is definately worth listening to if you need to fall asleep.

 | ferrmc (0) 07/06/2001 | when it comes to songwriters, Don Henley is the ANTI-CHRIST! Not because he is the worst songwriter of all time but because he begins to lead you to the apex of understanding by writing three incredibly insightful lines, and then whammo! He writes a line that is so stupid that it kills the moment.
Out on the road today,/
I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac/
A little voice Inside my head/
said, "Don't look back. You can never look back."

 | Wiggum (17) 06/12/2000 | Don Henley just sucks. I'm not sure which is more annoying, his music or his personality. It's a tight race. I may have liked the Eagles when I was a teenager, but now all that music bores the hell out of me. And Henley's new stuff is bland and worthless. If Henley hadn't been a member of the Eagles, no record label would have agreed to put out his solo music. Compare this guy to Sting, another founder of a hugely successful band that went on to a solo career. Unlike the Eagles, Police music still holds up, and unlike Henley, Sting has done some interesting and creative things as a solo artist. It's long overdue for Henley to call it quits.

 | Shafty (2) 06/12/2000 | I am surprised that I actually liked his "End of the Innocence album' I think I got it when I had a crush on a girl or just started dating a girl and it had some 'special' meaning ot me. There are a couple of decent songs on ther, He was better with an afro playing the drums for the Eagles singing 'Desperado'.

 | magellan (177) 06/07/2000 | I despise Don Henley. His music is exceptionally bad, and his voice is whiny and grating. I live in the Bay Area and am more than a little disturbed by how often he is played by otherwise good radio stations out here.
