07/13/2003 | Poppy Z.Brite has a great writing talent. She is more than capable of creating a visually stable universe filled with colorful, believable characters. Her only drawbacks are that she continually limits herself as a writer by keeping her work focused within a very tired genre of horror---if you've read one Poppy Z. Brite novel, you've thus read them all. And her struggle to take alternative themes often shunned by the majority of society and make them sound like something sterile and commonplace only alienates her from mainstream readers. Of course, by doing so however, she has in a sense created her own stereotypical status as a cult writer. One day she will be heralded as a master craftswoman, very much ahead of her time. But until then, her success (and sales) will be limited to her connection with her fanbase.

02/23/2003 | poppy is awsome! She has guts. She has a twist to every story and novel. it's had to master both genres. The Homosexuallity is just part of life, deal with it or don't read the book! I LOVE U POPPY!!
