Born into a family of tragically short life spans, Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855) is the author of Jane Eyre. Charlotte is the sister of Emily and Anne Bronte, both writers of merit as well. During her short life Charlotte Bronte published three novels, the other two being Shirley and Villette. It was after her death, in1857, that the novel Charlotte first wrote in 1846, a year before Jane Eyre appeared, The Professor, was published.
