Born into a family of tragically short life spans, Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855) is the author of Jane Eyre. Charlotte is the sister of Emily and Anne Bronte, both writers of merit as well. During her short life Charlotte Bronte published three novels, the other two being Shirley and Villette. It was after her death, in1857, that the novel Charlotte first wrote in 1846, a year before Jane Eyre appeared, The Professor, was published. (Add picture)

Nineteenth century version of a Harlequin romance writer.

Better than her sisters, who would be writing Hallmark greeting cards if they were alive today, but not by much.

Villette is maybe the greatest novel I've read. Charlotte Bronte has it all--style, poetry, and passion.

Jane Eyre is a beautiful and very well-written story. One of my favorites and always will be! Talk about a poignant, romantic story!

You show me a Bronte, I 'll show you a crappy writer.

Charlotte was the most prolific of the Brontes. Before her death, she wrote four novels. While Vilette is probably the best from a critical standpoint, my favorite will always be Jane Eyre.
