His writing is entertaining, and I've enjoyed everything I've read by him, although I could do without the socialist propaganda he throws into some of his works.

Amusing at times, although tends to portentiousness too frequently. Worth a look, particularly at The Time Machine. His history is better.

Wells does not date well. I want to like him more. Sinclair Lewis (who I do like) named his son after him. However, The History of Mr. Polly is weak. Wells was radical to the youth of Victorian times and should be commmended for that. You could do worse than Wells, it's just unfortunate that his work didn't hold up that well beyond his era.

Decent historical writer, but insisted on wasting considerable time and energy on a ridiculous genre like science fiction. His writing is pretty flat and colorless. He's OK for the junior set, or for a mildly diverting poolside read, but I can't see how present-day adults can take his work seriously.

The Invisible Man is one of the greatest stories I've ever read, and the movie was extremly well done too. It's scary and not too long, so It's enjoyable and readable. Great editors too.
