Frank  I never read the novels. But I love the movie versions. They are great!

Alice goes beyond the realm of children's books in that it's more a work that addresses the usually overlooked subjects of childhood perspective and cognition. Like all well-conceived books, it can be read on several levels, but its concerns are deliberately narrow. He wrote some charming verse. I would hesitate to rank him any higher than average because of his small and limited canon.

What a peculiar example of genius. Can you think of anything more strangely original than almost anything that occurred in "Alice in Wonderland" or "Through the Looking Glass"? I know the idea of entering another dimension through a mirror or falling into one through a deep hole in the ground has certainly stuck with me long after I first read about it. Even in an age when we have become overloaded and inundated with special effects and bizarre situations in books, on television and in movies, Carroll's fiction still has an appeal. So originally bizarre and alluring it will probably be read forever.
