 | babaoreeally (13) 09/15/2006 | I heard that PKD was a good author and so I looked for his work in the sci-fi section. As it happened, the very first book of his that I read was Confessions of a Crap Artist. It was hardly sci-fi but it was such an enjoyable read! The characters were colorful and life-like. I could imagine any one of them as neighbors or in-laws or acquaintances. The main questions were--what does crazy look like? What constitutes rational thought and "sane" behavior?
I can't wait to read more of his work!

 | thundermax (0) 09/11/2005 | Anyone realize how influential this writer has been in pop culture? His books and short stories have been adapted to screenplay more than any other writer in the history of cinema as far as I have been able to find:
Blade Runner
Minority Report
Total Recall
Imposter
Screamers
These are just the ones that I have been able to narrow down.
There is another movie that is coming out but I don't know the title, seeing as I only saw the preview in passing.
Amazing poise as a writer.
Also, there are three major sci-fi awards: Nebula, Hugo, and PHILIP K DICK

For all the flaws in his writing, Philip K Dick is probably one of the very very few Sci-Fi that will find his way into the history of General litterature.
He used the genre of sci fi to tackle philosophical issues that couldn't be treated trough any other genre.
His curses : he had to write to earn his bread (and hence write fast) and that probably prevented him from writing absolute masterpieces.
