Tripe baby tripe. Contrived script, pedestrian acting, lousy direction. The worst part of it, from my perspective, is the sententious and utterly idiotic moral righteousness to the ending.

I've killed Ben Affleck on this website. (Including a not-so-nice list in his name.) But when credit is due I give it. Affleck's directoral debut is a good one. This is a slice-of-life story in a rough Boston neighborhood after a child goes missing. The script is tough to follow because of the local dialect and the characters talk fast (that irritates some- but it made it more realistic to me.) And the plot isn't easy to follow. But that makes it an excellent DVD rental. This is a damn good film that's almost great. Solid cast and performances.

almost four. good acting. a policeman and his wife investigate a case where a girl has been kidnapped. the mother is a drug addict and not very likable. the poor girl does not come from very good surroundings. there are some wrong turns and an ending that makes one think "what would YOU do?" some diffcult scenes to watch. violent, and unnerving.

This is a fantastic movie. Set in rugged Dorchester, Mass, Gone Baby Gone is about a the disappearance of a toddler, and a local PI's efforts to get her back. There are all kinds of complicated ethical issues raised in this movie, and the acting is credible enough to carry the story.

Gone Baby Gone is one of 2007's best films. It's fast-paced with a great story line and wonderful acting that creates believable characters. There are some tense moments in it and some heart-breaking ones. Just when you think you know where the plot is going, it turns out you don't at all. Very nicely done, and definitely on my personal top 10 list.
