Something I've taken to after moving to Florida. Of all the rules in playing pool (the definition of "ball in hand", what counts as a "scratch" other than the cue ball in the pocket, etc.), I believe one rule should trump them all: NEVER talk to the player when they're trying to make a shot. Especially if you're an idiot. It took all of my willpower not to explain to this guy how the Pythagorean theorem ONLY APPLIES TO RIGHT ANGLES, AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SHOT I'M MAKING. I already know this guy failed college algebra, and barely passed the second time around; I shouldn't be surprised that geometry isn't a strong point for him, either. So, my suggestions for playing pool are 1) agree on the rules prior to starting, and 2) outside of friendly heckling, shut the hell up when someone's trying to shoot. After all, they're the ones who are holding the long, wooden stick.
