If you're in Frisco, you can go to the CASTRO to experience a real movie theater.

The rest of us are better off staying home.

Increasingly, experiences I have at the movie theaters are disappointing.

Seeing any major release close to when it hits theaters guarantees a bad experience. If it's not parents bringing crying infants to 10pm showings of R-rated films, it's people behind me eating a 4 course meal wrapped in noisy cellophane, or better yet, arriving to find that the only seats left together are so close you should get your name in the credits as an extra.

Although independent theaters manage to avoid these problems, the dying theater industry promises dirty and uncomfortable seating with a tiny screen and a dim projector bulb at many of the indie cinemas here in San Francisco.

For me, the main reason to watch a film is to be immersed in another world for a couple hours, and it has become more difficult to do this out at the movies than at home.

Not bad every once in a while when there's a movie I really want to see, but I prefer to watch movies at home. It's cheaper (the food is certainly much cheaper), you can have an adult beverage while watching the movie (although I've been to a couple movie theatres that sell beer), and you can pause the movie for bathroom and snack breaks.

Friday is probably the busiest night of the week for movies, so I'd rather head out to a movie on a less crowded evening.

I love watching movies but the theatre experience kills the joy about nine times out of ten. I'm usually trapped between the guy with the annoying laugh and the group of teen girls that can't shut up.

If only I had the time.

crowded theaters full of people blowing off steam from work, plus teenagers, and gang members. i dont think so.

Not when they cost 8 to ten bucks for 2 hours of garbage.
