This book was very original and gives a new look at the old South. My only complaint is that I wanted more Ignatius and Patrolman Mancuso and less of everyone else. Ignatius' erudite, yet acerbic, tongue alone are enough to make it worthwhile.

My brother bought me this book a while back for Christmas. Since my brother is something of an idiot, whose opinion I do not value, the book sat, unread in my desk for years. After finally reading it, I have changed my opinion of my brother forever. I read this book again recently and enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

John Kennedy Toole's book - A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES is as good a story as has ever been written. I consider it on a par with some of the stories in CANTERBURY TALES. Jerome Davis Gorman

Toole's Confederacy of Dunces is perhaps the best example of the modern picturesque novel, a work of stunning brilliance, impeccible structing, awesome nuance of narrative voice and absolute hilarity. This could be the funniest American novel. The Neon Bible, written when the author was 16 years old, is a pretty fine book as well, showing remarkable talent and promise. It's tragic that Toole took his own life as he apparently had so much to give.

Confederacy of Dunces is a work of genius, and is one of the funniest books ever written. Unfortunately Toole committed suicide so we will never know what became of immortal Ignatius ... or whether or not Patrolman Mancuso ever got off of restroom duty.

John Kennedy O'Toole's only work, A Confederacy of Dunces, is one of my all-time favorite books. The caracters are unforgettable, bizarre personalities that leap off the page. This book also gives a great picture of New Orleans.
