03/18/2004 | This woman should be awarded the Nobel Prize already. But don't count on it as the Nobel Committee has historically accorded kudos to obscure second raters from fly-swat countries for the sake of geographical balance. Oates has written brilliantly in both fiction and essay, and has produced a prolific body of work over the past 40 years. An authoress most overlooked and underrated by the general public, and, in essence, largely snubbed by the literary establishment.
