Falls short on both fronts, he's not a great actor and he's not current. He's a has-been posable action figure.

Zucaritas 09/25/2008
Again, hit and miss. He COULD be the spokesperson for how crazy religion makes people!
Chalky 09/22/2008
It's hell being Mel
thequilter 08/15/2008
He was excellent in Ransom, Signs, the Lethal Weapons, Payback, etc., etc.,……. I could go on and on. But Braveheart, The Passion and Apocalypto were Outstanding, regardless of your beliefs. He’s wonderful in front of the camera but GREAT behind it.
fb527060064 11/23/2007
he is forever young : )
fb584008286 11/07/2007
One of the best actors in the world (if not thee).
Spike65 08/24/2007
A major talent as an actor, director, and producer. Mel, don't drink and talk, or do it at home if you must.
Homercat 08/23/2007
Good Actor, but needs to keep his mouth shut when he has been drinking.
Rating2Help 08/06/2007
Used to like him, now he has no class and is obnoxious.
GenghisTheHun 04/11/2007
I cannot think of a movie in which he appeared that I did not like, and I always liked his character. That, in my opinion, is a sign of a great actor. I also liked the flicks that he directed. Gee, I am sorry that he was not politically correct.
chicagoman 04/11/2007
Being jewish I hate the guy.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 11/23/2006
as an actor he's done some good stuff and shown he's pretty versatile. as a film maker he's a peddlar of distorted history viz 'The Patriot' and 'Braveheart'.
RIAUSA 10/04/2006
This nazi is a totoal disgrace to the nation and to Hollywood.
Jeremy00081 09/12/2006
Some of his performances were excellant, some anything but. My favorite Gibson movie is "Signs". I love the movie and I think his acting was top notch.
bassman44113 08/30/2006
Dear Mel, The only problem you got is your drinking. But I also realize that one says stupid things when one is drunk. So lay off the juice and you'll be ok. I love your movies and I think in general your a great guy. I will continue to patronize your films, as long as you sober up. Your Friend- Me
edt4 08/04/2006
How can anyone act surprised that he's an anti-Semite after "The Passion of the Christ"? As far as his acting ability, I've never been a great fan, but I maintain a certain amount of respect for any actor with the stones (or hubris) to tackle "Hamlet".
tiggerandcogs 08/04/2006
his apology is too little too late! there is no room for antisemitic bs anymore. it will not be tolerated!
alomewandsam 08/04/2006
Gibson's recent drunken tirade depreciates his value substantially.
ElGringoTom 07/27/2006
I've been a fan of Mel's since "Tim." He is the only working actor today for whom I'll watch a movie just to enjoy his perfomance. Jack Nicholson was in that category, but has lost it. Not many of those in the last few years.
kissmeback 06/24/2006
one of the best to come alone in a lone time.keep up up mel.
DoorGunner 05/01/2006
I first saw this guy in "Mad Max" and "The Road Warrior" and liked him right off. He's also got the balls to do films like "We Were Soldiers" and "The Passion." 10,000 Alec Baldwins or Billy Bob Thorntons aren't worth one of him.
babydoll70427 02/23/2006
I LOVE HIS MOVIES HE'S A FANTASTIC ACTOR!
Empress Scorpio 01/04/2006
I happen to be a huge Mel Gibson fan and beleive that he has proven himself to be a great actor. He does this by making his characters believable. He was the flirty, goofy, yet reliable cop in the Lethal Weapons. He was the steadfast father who would do anything for his kids in Patriot and Signs. He was the fearless leader in Braveheart(my all-time favorite) and We Were Soldiers. And he was the bad guy who was just charismatic enough to make you love him and overlook the fact that he killed people without blinking an eye in Payback. And I have yet to see anyone else portray pain as well as he does. Seriously, There have been times when I wondered if the director yelled cut thinking they had actually harmed him.
brian j 11/24/2005
Well my favorite film is mad max, it seems he's much more relaxed and natural in this film then he is now.
HistoryFan 10/22/2005
Great actor, great director, and The Passion should've won an oscar for Best film!
goldilocks 10/05/2005
I've seen a few of his films. The Man Without a Face is my favorite so far. In terms of his acting ability, he isn't half bad but not 100% convincing. I do think he is a bit overrated as an actor, but I'd have to see more of his films to have a better judgment. I do like the way he directs though. He can paint an amazing picture.
sfalconer 09/13/2005
Mel is great and he is so versatile. He was fantastic in Brave Heart. Then he can take on a roll like Pay Back and What Women Want and he makes them work. Ransom the Lethal Weapon movies and the Patriot are all great films made even better by Mel
James76255 09/13/2005
Mel has apparently decided to stay behind the camara and says he will no longer appear in movies. It's a shame, as he is one of my favorite actors. He has shown a nice range, appearing in everything from action to drama to romantic comedy, and doing it all well. Man Without a Face was very good, and his directorial debut if I remember correctly. I disagree that he was miscast in Braveheart, and thought he did an excellent job. What Women Want, and to a lesser degree Bird on a Wire, showed he was equally good at romantic comedy. Signs and We Were Soldiers are two more of my favorite movies. Of course, there have been stinkers too. Forever Young was an interesting idea, but not very well done. This wouldn't be Mel's fault, but he didn't do much to save it either. As happens sometimes, they took the Lethal Weapon series for a ride one too many times... maybe even two too many. If I had one criticism for Mel's acting, it would be some of his emotional scenes. The Patriot was brought up, and I do think that is a good example. While I liked the movie and Gibson's performance overall, the scene after his oldest son dies is a prime example of his tendency to... I don't even know. I can't tell if he's over doing it, if he's under doing it. There is something that just doesn't sit right sometimes. It's not in every movie, and it's not every emotional scene, but sometimes he just comes off the wrong way. Overall, I think he is actually underrated. He certainly deserves at least a four.
kashmir69 09/12/2005
hamlet was his best role! he was miscast in braveheart b/c of the age factor.. he should've stayed behind the camera. i think he's a gifted director. the passion was brilliant, but it really really really inflated his bankbook and i'm sure his ego. my husband thinks he is cool & i think he's chosen better roles as he matured. i didn't like him one bit back in the 80s era and didn't think he was cute, but i sure do now!
wolfie 08/19/2005
An ok actor- becoming somewhat older, and his political crusades and religous mumbo jumbo a bit retro-Saw him in 'Signs' and was reasonably interesting-
sivits403 07/09/2005
A real man! Mel's not afraid of standing up for his faith, even if the majority of the world downgraded him. Anyone who has the guts to firmly say what they believe, regardless of what the politically correct may think about it, has my utmost respect and my constant cheers. God bless you Mel! If we never meet here on earth, someday we'll meet in Heaven.
JukeBoxHero 06/27/2005
A director, an actor ... what's next? This guy must have a house made of gold! Signs was an awesome movie.
macsmg 06/06/2005
Freedom is hilarious, huh. He's made some of the best films on that very real topic.Drink somemore kool aid, watch more CNN and don't forget to vote democrat.Jackass.
caligula 04/18/2005
Bad actor and even worse hair plugs. FREEDOOOMMMM! Hilarious. How about the movie where he was asleep for 40 years, What happened to the last FORTY YEARS? Instead of acting, he simply rubs his face.
Djahuti 04/13/2005
Not much more than an aging pin-up boy. Most of his popularity is with women for this reason.
guitar_chick49 3 04/05/2005
my art teacher (mrs. leseger) is OBSESSED with him. its kinda funny actually since shes married..
texasyankee 03/31/2005
I could always watch his movies but I think this guy's seriously overrated. Not to mention I am sick of hearing women my age going gaga over him.
Eve 03/15/2005
Mel aint going to hell!
Maomania 03/01/2005
Don't hate me, but I think that Mel Gibson is a terrible actor. Not convincing at all. I remember watching the Patriot and he was trying to be all sad and cried.....I felt nothing. And that is how I feel about him in pretty much every movie. He does not convince me at all. And now I am already avoiding movies with him, cause I know I wouldn't like it.
magneto101 02/25/2005
mel is brill , braveheart wins 6 oscars and you dont get that for nothing the man is a legend maybe its cause i am from scotland mmmmmm
anne9391om 02/10/2005
I first saw Mel Gibson in the Australian film Gallipolli and thought he was someone to watch. Now *there* was handsome and charming. I haven't liked any of his other movies except Hamlet. It's possible, but rare, for an actor to stand out in a mediocre movie. As far as him being a role model, he practically crossed the line into obscenity in remarks he made about homosexuals on Spanish tv. His version of Roman Catholicism is practically a cult - they believe the Popes after Vatican II are imposters(no, it's just his father). He seems to have a lot of issues. He's a competent actor.
dpostoskie 02/04/2005
Epic....if he'd shut is mouth outside of Hollywood. Thank GOD for the Passion.
fabcheetah 01/28/2005
Remember that sceen from Braveheart when he yelled FREEDOM!....That was so awesome. Great actor of action films and comedy roles.
ElleRumming 01/20/2005

If we gather all the OSCARS awarded for the films in the history of cinematography it would be the partial price for only one MEL GIBSONS moviemaking BRAVEHEART!!! Here are no enough stars to rate him, and I do give him what we have here plus all what we have in the sky. THANKS GOD THAT WE HAVE THAT GREAT MAN IN HOLLYWOOD!!!
Timur777 12/01/2004

He helps us through his films to understand fundamentality of everyday life, deep feelings, emotions. He is the BEST of the BEST!!!
noskcaj 11/24/2004
Good despite being nutter than his Characters. Goes over the top with the physical pain forced on his characters ex. Lethal Weapon, payback, madmax ect. Payback is a good one.
oscarboy 11/17/2004
