The Golden Compass 2

SYNOPSIS:  In this world where people have soul-carrying familiars called daemons follow them around, children start disappearing; there's a conspiracy to cover up an overwhelming truth about the nature of the world and other worlds and something about dust, and . . . wait, did that polar bear just smack the jaw off another polar bear?  

PROS:  . . . I'm sorry, I'm still getting over the whole polar bear jaw flying through the air thing . . . . I didn't see that coming . . .

CONS:  Seemed like if I read the book, I would understand it more.  Seemed a little chaotic, and seemed like it was trying too hard to be breathtaking.  I'm still trying to figure out what the deal is with the witches.

OVERALL:  Probably had a lot of potential, but it didn't quite make it.  The book series that it's based off of is supposed to be a trilogy, which explains the awkard ending of the movie.
